Sunset over the clouds on top of Crib Goch, looking towards the north ridge descending towards Llanberis. The beginnings of a cloud inversion can be seen in the valley as the clouds begin to flow in.
After the sunset I spent the night bivying on top of the ridge watching the clouds move along the valley. It was an experience I will not forget...
This is another shot taken in Snowdonia when I did the Snowdon Horseshoe walk - well it should actually be called The Snowdon Horseshoe scramble! There is a fabulous grade 1 scramble to get up onto this 3,000 feet high ridge at Crib Goch and then my route followed the zig zag arete in this picture to reach the Snowdon summit which is the left of the two peaks in the distance. This is one half of the horseshoe, the other half is in the picture below :)!
There are more pictures and story on my latest blog entry - link below.
Thanks for looking.

I ran across this abandoned corn crib in north central Iowa and loved the interior look with the multitude of angles and shadows.

Dating to most likely 1870, these two very old corn cribs are on a property used heavily as a nursery in 1890-turn of the century; it was a booming business. There are stories that plants from this place were hauled by wagon, and later truck, a bit west to either Grand Junction or Pullman, Michigan and loaded onto the train bound for Chicago.
The nearby town of Cheshire, a mile down the road, was so big during that time that everything from planed wood, veggies & fruits, meat, cheese, trees and plants, among other "exports" were driven or shipped to Chicago to get the best prices. Today there is a town hall and little else. And actually, the local slaughterhouse that output so much meat for the area can be seen in my July 31 uploads.
These corn cribs, according to the owner, are very fortunate to still be standing. He had to search for a new insurance company when his current provider told him to tear them down or lose the policy...! Keeping these historic treasures in America is so often made much more difficult by insurance companies that refuse to give them a chance...

Crib Goch is described as a knife-edged arête in the Snowdonia National Park in Gwynedd, Wales. The name means red ridge in the Welsh language.
The highest point on the arête is 923 metres (3,028 ft) above sea level. All routes which tackle Crib Goch are considered mountaineering routes in winter or scrambles in summer
The zigzag path leads down to the merging paths of The Pyg Track and Miners Track above lake Glaslyn.

My buddy Greg texted me on Monday night about going out and seeing the sunset ASAP. The western fires have added some nice (for us) sunset haze, and about 10-15 minutes before sunset, the sun just turns into this lovely orange ball.
Scouted out at the grain silo just west of Normal last night, but punted on that for this familiar crib, just north of Stanford, IL, for tonight's moment of zen.
Shot on Sparky 3 - just high enough to see over the corn as the sun sank slowly in the west.

Named for the nearby Pripyat River, Pripyat was founded on 4 February 1970, the ninth nuclear city in the Soviet Union, for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. It was officially proclaimed a city in 1979, and had grown to a population of 49,360 before being evacuated a few days after the 26 April 1986 Chernobyl disaster.
Though Pripyat is located within the administrative district of Ivankiv Raion, the abandoned city now has a special status within the larger Kiev Oblast (province), being administered directly from Kiev. Pripyat is also supervised by Ukraine's Ministry of Emergencies, which manages activities for the entire Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
Access to Pripyat, unlike cities of military importance, was not restricted before the disaster as nuclear power stations were seen by the Soviet Union as safer than other types of power plants. Nuclear power stations were presented as being an achievement of Soviet engineering, where nuclear power was harnessed for peaceful projects. The slogan "peaceful atom" (Russian: ?????? ????, mirnyj atom) was popular during those times. The original plan had been to build the plant only 25 km (16 mi) from Kiev, but the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, among other bodies, expressed concern about it being too close to the city. As a result, the power station and Pripyat were built at their current locations, about 100 km (62 mi) from Kiev. After the disaster the city of Pripyat was evacuated in two days.

Some new faces, some old, made new friends and generally we were in our elements.
Rhetorical question but did we have a blast? You bet!

Small crib made from terracotta, a clay-based unglazed ceramic.
The stable is about 8 inches wide and about 5 to 6 inches high. So not very big!
I have another one that’s made from the same material (very often found in Italy) – from which I have a photo in my photo stream (here is the link to it – then you know what I mean:

That Night
It must have been a peaceful night
with a bright star overhead.
A Babe lay in a manger,
as there was no infant bed.
Angels sang a heavenly hymn,
the breeze was cold that night.
The cattle lowed most softly
in the bright star’s glowing light.
The mother held her newborn Child
and pulled the wrapping tight.
The heavens were with glory filled
and hovered o’er the night.
Trumpets sounded o’er the land
to announce the holy birth,
for just a time it was so calm,
with blessed peace on earth.
The mother sang a lullaby,
a cradlesong of old,
wise men came from far away
to give Him gifts of gold.
It must have been a lovely night,
designed from up above,
when a little Child was born to give
Redemption, Peace, and Love.
