This is the bridge that connects Marks & Spencer and Selfridges with the main Arndale complex after the original bridge was damaged beyond repair by the IRA bomb on the 15th June 1996. The Ford Van that contained the bomb was parked on Corporation St on double yellows left of this image and the only structure to survive the blast was a red post box underneath the bridge that still stands today.

This remarkable vehicle was for many years Stockton's only single-deck bus. Leyland surprised the market with the Olympic, its first underfloor-engined model. Not only was it of integral construction but the bodywork was by MCW rather than its own bodybuilding department.
Stockton Corporation possibly created as much surprise locally, not only by purchasing a single example of the new model but by specifying a rear entrance and front exit. Delivered in 1951, MPT 858 (fleet number 26) seated 41 passengers rather than the standard 44. It must have been difficult to judge the success of a single vehicle of such unconventional layout in a fleet that was otherwise made up entirely of traditional open-platform double-deckers. The only thing that we can be sure of is that it remained unique, although Stockton returned to the concept of dual door single-deckers in its twilight years - albeit with a front entrance and centre exit.
As far as the home market was concerned, the Olympic was soon succeeded in Leyland's catalogue by the Royal Tiger, marking a return to conventional body-on-chassis construction (16-Jan-10).

Organics was still a relatively new idea in the Peninsula cities at the time, so WM had this truck done up to advertise their service. From what I was told, the program was a pretty big success, but was discontinued when GreenWaste took over.

The RCA connector is named for the Radio Corporation of America, which first used it in the 1940s to connect phonographs to amplifiers. Generally it refers to a cable with three color-coded plugs, which connect to three correspondingly-colored jacks (these are also called 'phono plugs' and 'phono jacks,' short for phonograph). The colors are usually red and white for right and left audio channels and yellow for composite video.

Arriva 6499 (SN66WHS) "Geoff Arthur" in Southend Corporation Transport heritage livery at Southend Bus Station operating on Route 1 to Rayleigh Station.
This view represents a vehicle that not only served in the Hartlepool fleet for many years, but which survives in preservation. Roe-bodied Leyland PD2 BEF 28C (fleet number 28) was one of a pair delivered in 1965 but looks older by virtue of its exposed radiator, a feature that had become increasingly uncommon by that time. Hartlepool's sole concession to modern trends (as far as double-deckers were concerned) was to fit platform doors to some of its PD2s - no doubt greatly appreciated on the exposed coastal road to Seaton Carew. These were the company's last double-deckers, with the fleet progressively becoming all single-deck.
One of the PD2s was converted to open-top and number 28 lingered as a training and special event vehicle, ultimately passing to Eastern Scottish for further use as a training vehicle (retaining Hartlepool livery throughout its stay). Nick Larkin bought it for preservation and I came across it at the 1994 Delaine Running Day looking a little worse for wear.
