I spied this rose at the far side of a neighbour's garden, so it was from quite a distance, but I liked the effect and I pulled a lot of colour out as I'm enjoying muted tones at the minute.

Seen entering Hereford railway station is Rail Operations Group 37800 'Cassiopeia' with former Merseyrail EMUs 507018 and 507007. After a short pause they were on their way again to Newport Docks (Simsgroup) for scrapping. Caught in a bit of midday sunshine only because they were running over three hours late at this stage after a late departure from Birkenhead EMUD. 2 December 2024

UPDATE: Begins airing on May 19th, 2013!

In April of 2011, I was given the coolest opportunity of a lifetime. I was contacted via email in December 2010 by a young lady named Evie Wright of Wild Horizons Ltd, a UK-based documentary filmmaker. She saw my wildlife photos on Flickr and that is what initiated our correspondence - isn't the Internet such a powerful medium? At the time, Wild Horizons was contracting with Discovery Channel for an upcoming series about North America and she wanted to know if I could get them positioned into key areas for Black Bears emerging from their Winter dens. More here on my latest Black Bear Blog....

Although my helping hand in this epic series was very tiny, it is a life moment I will never, ever forget. I was in total awe of the HD video equipment they had plus the commitment to rise early each and everyday to hike in rough terrain until the daylight faded (while toting the equipment on their backs).

7 Part Series “North America” Coming to Discovery Channel in 2013

This series was originally slated to air in 2012, but now it is 2013 - and for some reason they have dropped the 'Wild Planet' tag from the title. Plus the Wild Horizons web site is no longer in existence.

Coming home I'm coming home

let me show you who I am let me show you I'm your man

I would give anything just to see you again

coming home I'm I'm coming home

let me show you that I care let me show you that I share

I would give anything to see Jeanny again coming home

Union Pacific Locomotive 5529 leads a few hundred tons of steel through The Dalles. The train was doing about 50 MPH, and I fired the shutter at the absolute last milisecond. I missed by just a hair, but I'm not throwing out the picture because ot it. I would add that the wide angle lens masks how too damn close to a 50 MPH train I was to get this image.
