Very rare to see a freight climbing up the bank at Oakenshaw, onto the former Midland Main Line. Due to a landslide at Pontefract Monkhill, the sand train to Monk Bretton glassworks from Middleton Towers is diverted, and reverses at Calder Bridge, Wakefield, to gain access to the glass works.
Daxi climbing on the fantastic sandstone of Wittelsbacher-Bridge in Munich, Germany... He had spotted the place a couple of weeks ago and soloed some of the lines. Today we came back and brought cams, rocks and rope to really try it out. Fantastic day!
Found a cool boulder as well!

One of the 1000000 reasons I love climbing more than (almost?) anything else is: this is what fills your mind completely, pushing out everything else. Then you have the other 999999 reasons, of course...

“After the Climb”
Week 42
This week’s challenge was “signs.” The leaves changing color are signs that fall is upon us. Autumn is my favorite season and I try to get out and hike as much as I can during this time of year. I was out doing some backpacking with some friends this weekend and we were treated to this view after about 8 miles of hiking. (I did a total of 17 miles this trip over the course of 2 days). This photo is at the top of Lion’s Head in the Dolly Sods area of West Virginia. You really have to earn this view since there’s no easy way to get to it without at least several miles of uphill, backcountry hiking.

"There's no glory in climbing a mountain if all you want to do is to get to the top. It's experiencing the climb itself - in all its moments of revelation, heartbreak, and fatigue - that has to be the goal."

Climbing along the path made, in a vertical wall, by the Mountain Battalion "Valcamonica" in 1940…..
A thought to these young men thrown into a war where so many lost their lives..
This is the last photo I've taken with my Praktica Super Tl 1000. Now the lens is broken. I feel horrible. Just when I was learning how to make the most of it... crack.

Back in the 1990s, before digital cameras were invented, and under the influence of David Hockney's famous photo collages, I experimented with shooting lots of 35mm prints of family life and assembled them onto large sheets of paper.
