Brampton gets ready for Christmas 2022
Brampton, Cumbria
Brampton is a small market town, civil parish and electoral ward within the City of Carlisle district of Cumbria, England, about 9 miles (14 km) east of Carlisle and 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Hadrian's Wall. Historically part of Cumberland, it is situated off the A69 road which bypasses it. Brampton railway station, on the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway, is about a mile outside the town, near the hamlet of Milton.
St Martin's Church is famous as the only church designed by the Pre-Raphaelite architect Philip Webb, and contains one of the most exquisite sets of stained glass windows designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones, and executed in the William Morris studio.
The town was founded in the 7th century as an Anglian settlement.
Brampton was granted a Market Charter in 1252 by King Henry III, and became a market town as a result.
During the Jacobite rising of 1745, Charles Edward Stuart stayed in the town for one night, marked by a plaque on the wall of the building (a shoe shop) currently occupying the location; here he received the Mayor of Carlisle who had been summoned to Brampton to surrender the city to the Young Pretender. The Capon Tree Monument, to the south of the town centre, commemorates the 1746 hanging of six Jacobites from the branches of the Capon Tree, Brampton's hitherto traditional trysting place.
In 1817 the Earl of Carlisle built the octagonal Moot Hall, which is in the centre of Brampton and houses the Tourist Information Centre. It replaced a 1648 building which was once used by Oliver Cromwell to house prisoners.
Much of Brampton consists of historic buildings built of the local red sandstone.

Another significant stop is the elegant Kö-Bogen Market, offering gourmet delicacies and a cosmopolitan flair near the modern architecture and exclusive boutiques of the Königsallee.
Beyond shopping and atmosphere, several attractions provide focal points for festive fun. The massive Wheel of Vision Ferris wheel stands proudly at Burgplatz, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Rhine River and the twinkling cityscape below. For active fun, the KÖ ON ICE experience on Corneliusplatz features a large ice rink, inviting both young and old to glide, skate, and even try their hand at curling. This area, alongside the Roncalli Christmas Promenade by the Rhine, transforms scenic locations into lively hubs of winter activity.
A quintessential part of the German Christmas market experience is the food and drink, and Düsseldorf’s markets do not disappoint. Visitors can indulge in an array of classic German specialties, including Reibekuchen (crispy potato pancakes), Bratwurst (sausage), and sweet treats like Gebrannte Mandeln (roasted almonds) and Lebkuchen (gingerbread). To warm up, a mug of Glühwein (hot mulled wine) is a must, with some markets, like the one on Flinger Straße, even featuring an impressive mulled wine pyramid, while the Roncalli Promenade is noted for serving organic Glühwein.
Overall, the 2025 Düsseldorf Christmas market perfectly blends traditional German holiday charm with the sophisticated, modern spirit of the city. The dispersed structure ensures a less chaotic experience than a single, crowded market, allowing the festive spirit to permeate the entire center. From finding unique, handcrafted gifts to enjoying a spirited ride on the Ferris wheel or simply savoring a cup of spicy punch, the city offers an unforgettable six-week-long winter fairy tale that appeals to both local residents and international guests.
Oh my goodness, I am running so far behind for Christmas that the glue is still drying on this card for my sister and her husband. I realized that it's going to be very very late for Christmas (along with their gifts) so went for a Seasons Greetings sentiment, to cover the New Year as well! This die set is by Waffle Flower (the Riverside Die Set) and I just love it. It can be customized for all seasons of the year. The sentiment is an old one by Hero Arts and I used a tag die by Taylored Expressions, with an embossing folder by Tim Holtz.
