The flowers on the snowball bush are a pretty pale lime green. In a few days, they'll be much larger and white.
Bush Stone-Curlew (Burhinus grallarius) aka "bush thick-knee"
This was my first sighting of this bird, which was in a small colony of 12 birds at the Gold Coast, Qld.
As the sand dunes shift in the desert sometimes the roots of plants are exposed. The creosote bush has a large root structure which goes a long distance seeking moisture.
We went for a day outing with some of the old ladies from the Art centre. went looking for dancing sticks, a certain type of wood that are shaved with a axe then put in a fire to heat them, then they straighten them by bending them in the fork of a tree. They will be using these special sticks for when they go to Poland to do traditional dancing, But in this photo Napurrurla is cracking open bush peanuts with a axe.
Keith and I visited the Bush's Bean Factory and museum in Chestnut Hill, TN. It is literally in the middle of nowhere and was a fun tour -- learned a lot about the history of the company, and of grocery stores, in the tour they gave!
Thurs. the 16th and Very Very Soggy Wet & Rainy. So off to Library and Groceries run in the Rain O' What Fun! :-)
Queen Charlotte Trail. We climbed through thick bush (no view whatsoever) and then walked into an area where the trees had slid down, like a conveyor belt, exposing a sliver about 20m wide and a long way up and down. Quite pleased not to be here when that happened.
From where the path crossed this sliver, a wonderful view emerged of the bush we'd been walking through. Not a trace of a path to be seen in this shot. But there is one!
This is rain forest, but far from tropical. Nowhere near as many species - and completely different ones too, of course. And being NZ, no snakes or nasties to worry about.
