La grande mosquée de Paris est une mosquée française construite dans le style hispano-mauresque avec un minaret de 33 mètres. Elle est située 6, rue Georges-Desplas dans le quartier du Jardin-des-Plantes du 5e arrondissement de Paris. La mosquée, inaugurée le 15 juillet 1926, a été construite au nom de la Société des habous des lieux saints de l’islam. Elle est la plus ancienne des mosquées de France métropolitaine servant au culte.
L’histoire de la mosquée de Paris est liée à la colonisation. Elle fut conçue comme un geste pour commémorer la mort des soldats indigènes lors de la Première Guerre mondiale.

The Great Mosque of Paris is a French mosque built in the Hispano-Moorish style with a 33-meter minaret. It is located at 6, rue Georges-Desplas in the Jardin-des-Plantes district of the 5th arrondissement of Paris. The mosque, inaugurated on July 15, 1926, was built in the name of the Society of Habous of the Holy Places of Islam. It is the oldest of the mosques in metropolitan France used for worship.
The history of the Paris mosque is linked to colonization. It was designed as a gesture to commemorate the deaths of indigenous soldiers in the First World War.
A couple of weeks ago I went out with fellow photographer, Monica Ramanathan, to photograph Petco Park. We chose an evening where the Padres were playing at home so the stadium would be illuminated. Since that time, the San Diego Padres have clinched a postseason berth during a full-length season for the first time since 2006! I guess I need to photograph Petco Park more often to help the Padres win, but unfortunately, they will be playing on the road for the start of the National League playoffs. Favorite, share, comment.

"L'oeil de verre" is a panorama I took at "la défense" in Paris.
The Church of St. Vladimir was built on the site of a medieval cruciform church in the mid-19th century. The church is devoted to Kyivan Prince Vladimir, who, according to the Rus Chronicle, was baptized in Chersonesos. Academician F. I. Chagin and architect D. I. Grimm, architects of the church, designed this two-story building with one chapel on each floor. The chapel of the Nativity of the Mother of God of Korsun' is located on the ground floor; St. Vladimir chapel is on the first floor.
The remains of the cruciform church where the prince of Rus' was initially supposed to have been baptized are preserved on the ground floor of the modern church.

Храм-памятник поражает своим величием, красотой и пропорциональностью линий. Свято-Владимирский собор был заложен в 1861 году. На церемонии присутствовала царская семья. Первый камень в основание собора заложил император Александр II. Он же утвердил проект будущего храма на территории Херсонесского монастыря. Автором проекта выступил академик архитектуры Давид Гримм. Интересно, что Свято-Владимирский собор в Херсонесе стал первым выдающимся сооружением, которое спроектировал этот архитектор.

Original wooden Chapel of New Martyrs and Russian Confessors was erected on Yalta Embankment in 1881 in memory of tsar Alexander II upon his assassination in spring of the same year. This small Russian Orthodox Church was dedicated to Saint Alexander Nevsky, patron of deceased monarch. Unfortunately the chapel was destroyed in 1932 by Soviet government. New Chapel of the New Martyrs and Russian Confessors was constructed and finished on July 17, 2006. It is dedicated to saints that were killed by Atheistic Soviet government. Chapel of New Martyrs and Russian Confessors was consecrated by a Metropolit of Simferopol and Crimea Lazar.

В марте 1881 года, после убийства Александра Освободителя, всколыхнувшего всю Российскую империю, Ялтинской городской думой решено построить на набережной часовню в память о царе. Уже 23 июля 1881 года работа над зданием, стилизованным под древнерусское северное зодчество, была завершена.
Деревянное строение планировалось как временное, но часовня простояла пятьдесят один год, службы в ней проводились от собора Александра Невского. В 1932 году ее закрыли и позже разобрали «за ненадобностью».
В 2006 году историческую справедливость решено было восстановить и на Ялтинской набережной освятили место под часовню, которая должна была расположиться почти что на месте прежней. В 2009 году часовню построили и здание освятили.

In Infra Red. According to the Daresbury Heritage group this building is called the round chevaral and is used as a control area for the Vyrnwy Aqueduct which passes under here taking Welsh water to Liverpool. Rumour has it that it is also used to make Bombay Sapphire Gin. In the distance are the cooling towers of the Fidler’s Ferry power station.

This picture of Québec City at dusk was taken near the Citadelle, a National Historical Site with impressive architecture and spectacular view. Overlooking the historic district, the iconic Chateau Frontenac, the port and the St. Lawrence River, this is for me the best place in town to see the sunrise in Quebec City. The sun was just peaking out through the clouds over the Orleans Island at the moment I clicked.

Tall grass and reeds grow along the shoreline at Liberty State Park and provide an excellent view of Lower Manhattan. The cumulus clouds over the city add drama to this scene.
