New York City - January 4, 2023: Trinity Church Wall Street installed a new stained glass window in 2022. It was created by renowned British stained glass artist Thomas Denny. The window illustrates two parables from the gospel of Matthew. This is the first new stained glass window to be installed in Trinity Church in more than a century. The original stained glass windows date back to 1846.

"L'oeil de verre" is a panorama I took at "la défense" in Paris.

The magnificent fortress of Le Castella is located on the eastern end of the Gulf of Squillace in the province of Crotone. To be precise, in Isola di Capo Rizzuto looking out over the protected marine reserve of the same name. You don't need much imagination to see the Aragonese soldiers locked in combat with Turkish pirates five centuries ago.

When life shuts a door.... Open it again. It's a door!!!!

That's how they work.

Built in the 1960s, this 16 storey tower block is scheduled for demolition later this year. It's interesting to consider its short lifespan, compared to the adjacent stone-built structure. It was probably built a hundred years earlier, and is still being used as a furniture shop!

LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Surely every man walketh in a vain show: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them. And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee. Deliver me from all my transgressions.

(Psalm 39:4-8)

In Infra Red. According to the Daresbury Heritage group this building is called the round chevaral and is used as a control area for the Vyrnwy Aqueduct which passes under here taking Welsh water to Liverpool. Rumour has it that it is also used to make Bombay Sapphire Gin. In the distance are the cooling towers of the Fidler’s Ferry power station.

This fountain located in the Piazza Duomo in Trento was sculpted by Francesco Antonio Giongo from Lavarone. For this fountain, the sculptor created a continuous water flowing system, without interruption.

Pizzo, also called Pizzo Calabro, is a seaport and comune in the province of Vibo Valentia (Calabria, southern Italy), situated on a steep cliff overlooking the Gulf of Santa Eufemia.

According to one of the legends it was founded in 891. Originally it belonged to the Constantinopolitan Patriarchate. The first record of the monastery dates back to 1578. From 1778 (the Christians’ outcome from Crimea) to 1794 the monastery does not function. From 1806 it becomes the base monastery for the Black Sea Fleet hieromonachs. New temples are built: 1816 — the Great Martyr George Temple, 1850 — the Exaltation of the Cross Temple, 1893 — the Cave Church of the Nativity of Christ. The monastery is closed in 1929. It was revived in 1994. In 2000 there started the building of the Great Martyr George Temple, ruined in 1927.

There is a reason Hong Kong has a reputation for being a concrete jungle. The Monster Building is a fairly accurate description of Hong Kong, one of the most densely populated cities in the world. It was made famous films such as Transformers and the Ghost in the Shell live-action films.

The land upon which the castle is constructed was purchased by the oil industrialist P. L. Steingel (nephew of the famous Russian railroad builder Baron Rudolf Steingel, a German nobleman who had made a fortune extracting oil in Baku. Baron von Steingel adored the Gothic architectural style, so he ordered the prominent Russian architect Leonid Sherwood to use the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany as an example for the new construction, but to make the building even more fairytale-like.

The available land only measured 20 x 10 meters, so the castle was built up high with turrets, spires and open battlements. Inside the main tower, there were 2 tiny bedrooms. The living room, with a large fireplace and stairs, were brought closer to the “shore” for security reasons. Sherwood made a beautiful toy “copy” of the Gothic Rhine castles but did not take into account that large grottoes were located under the cliff. Behind the balconies, at the edge of the cliff, there was originally a garden, but in 1927 an earthquake occurred, and the rock upon which the castle stood broke: the garden fell into the sea, and one main tower was almost completely destroyed.

The next large-scale reconstruction took place in the 1960s. Originally it was proposed that the castle be dismantled brick by brick and moved “to the mainland”, however, this idea was abandoned. The Soviet architect Tatiev was responsible for the eventual reconstruction and the Swallow’s Nest was “rebuilt” with the entire castle being dismantled with each brick numbered and then reassembled on an earthquake-resistant slab placed on top of the rock.
