Built in the neo-baroque style of architecture, the Old Parliament Building is one of the major attractions of Colombo. The beautiful architecture and the history associated with the building is fascinating, to say the least. The building was opened on January 29, 1930 by Governor Sir Herbert Stanley. When the State Council of Ceylon was established a year later, the old building was used as the office space for the council. The building was designated as the Parliament of Sri Lanka in 1977. In 1983, the Sri Lankan parliament moved out to the new complex in Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte. Since then, the Old Parliament Building has functioned as the home to the Presidential Secretariat. You will find that the front garden of the building complex is host to several bronze statues of eminent statesmen including that of Rt Hon D. S. Senanayake, Hon Dudley Senanayake and General Sir John Kotalawela.

One of Quinta de Regaleira's most fascinating feature is located beneath the ground – a pair of wells spiraling deep within the earth. The wells were never used, nor intended for water collection. Instead, these mysterious underground towers were used for secretive initiation rites.
The ‘Initiation Well’ or ‘Inverted Tower’, consist of ‘winding stair’ architecture, which carries symbolic meaning including the death/rebirth allegory common to many hermetic traditions.
The well contains nine platforms, which are said to be “reminiscent of the Divine Comedy by Dante and the nine circles of Hell, the nine sections of Purgatory and the nine skies which constitute Paradise.”

The board of trustees, composed of Sergey Solovyov, Vasily Klyuchevsky, Uvarov and other leading historians, presided over the construction of the museum building. After a prolonged competition the project was handed over to Vladimir Osipovich Shervud (or Sherwood, 1833–97).

El sanatorio de Abona, en Abades consta de más de 40 edificaciones y fue diseñado en 1943 como un sanatorio para leprosos. Pero debido a los avances científicos en la cura de la enfermedad el proyecto fue abandonado antes de ser finalizado, por lo que nunca fue utilizado con ese fin.
By tradition, this is one of the churches built on the orders of Matilda of Tuscany (1046-1115). Its layout reminds of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, while its proximity to Sant'Andrea basilica – where the Blood of Christ is guarded – reminds of the Calvary.

Universally known as Aragonese, it was actually much more ancient, since there is already mention of its existence in 1027, though it must have existed already in 536, probably on a preexisting stronghold of Roman times. I was lucky enough to take this photo on my last night in Ljubljana from the balcony of the apartment I was staying at. I would say I'm quite happy with the result considering the amount of craft ale I had made my way through not long before.
The house of Baron Fredericks (the official name until 1917 - "ministerial house with apartments for ladies") was erected in 1901–1902. Petersburg architect Alfred Avgustovich Biber. The three-storey building is designed in the so-called Baltic Art Nouveau style. On the western and south-western facades, metal decorations have been preserved - lattices, brackets, elements of awnings. There were several apartments inside, the largest of which belonged to Vladimir Borisovich Fredericks

I used to live quite close to Swanage (in Bournemouth more precisely) but never had the opportunity to get any shot over there.
Luckily, meeting Mark Bauer gave the opportunity to do that. Many ours of walk and chat. Breakfast quite close to the pier. It was just natural to go over there and try something. Shame the old pier (the famous one) has some diving buoys near by and we can't get close. But the pier itself is worth a moment of inspiration.

The Buonconsiglio Castle, splendid residence of the Prince Bishops and symbol of the city of Trento, is made up of different parts built in different ages: an older one, called Castelvecchio, includes Torre Aquila, with the frescoes of the Cycle of the Months, a masterpiece of Gothic art that takes us to the heart of courtly and peasant life at the end of the 14th century. Then there is a Renaissance part, the Magno Palazzo, commissioned by the Prince Bishop Bernardo Cles and richly frescoed, while another wing of the palace, the Giunta Albertiana, is from the Baroque age. During the First World War the trial against the irredentists Cesare Battisti, Fabio Filzi and Damiano Chiesa was held here.

Через 200 лет была надстроена высокая Орлина башня (Torre dell’Aquila) – веяние готики; внутренние росписи башни – сцены времен года – ценнейший памятник готического искусства. В XVI в. к крепости был пристроен Парадный дворец (Magno Palazzo): фронтоны, галереи с колоннадами, росписи на темы античных сюжетов – это уже Ренессанс. My latest view of Miami and Brickell's Financial District photographed from Key Biscayne.
It is an HDR kinda processed image with the last frame exposed at 149s to bring drama into the image with the running clouds. I selected three frames exposed at different times during dusk, to work with in the processing. Too long of a story.
As always, very sorry for the obvious watermark stamp. I dislike it tremendously too. It's just necessary commercial protection.

The Galleria built between 1865 and 1877 is formed by two arcades shaped like a Latin cross covered by a glass and iron dome. The structure of the Galleria is 32 metres high, comprises 353 tonnes of iron utilised for the skeleton of the cover, and its octagonal-shaped roof reaches a height of 47 metres. If you walk around the galleries, the central dome has a stunning mosaic that represents the continents of Asia, Africa, Europe and America.
