The ANZAC Bridge, in the middle of a weekday, is teeming with traffic and joggers. What you see here is not photoshop to remove cars or pedestrians, but the use of an ND500 "black glass" filter.

Walk fast. Stay on your lane. Don't look like a tourist. This was my mantra coming into the city.
And that was what I was channeling when I finally got off my first metro subway ride after my 6 hour sleepless flight from Los Angeles. This was my first stop, and one of my two ultimate to do's here in greatest city on earth. Big pedestrian signs were spray painted on the boards I was walking on, the bike lane immediately on my left. In spite of the 9 degree Celsius gloomy weather, there were bikers whizzing by me, and determined runners overtaking me from behind. And here I was walking happily alone, welcoming myself on foot to the island of Manhattan.
I had to stop. I don't care if the world passed by me and they curse at me. 'Stupid tourist. It's just an effin bridge.' I just had to stop, because I knew --- I always knew --- at some point I will be standing here. I didn't know how or when I'd get here. I just knew. And somehow, at that moment, it's all happening.
I was on Brooklyn Bridge, walking into New York City. Yes, I've longed dreamed singing along Alicia Keys and mean it and in that instance I did, "If I can make it hear, I can make it anywhere." New York is literally staring at me. Me and my daypack containing what is presently all my worldly possessions. That moment I felt so small, yet so invincible.
Here's to my little big moment carrying through 2013. It's January 1st. Happy New Year!
13/30 days of gratitude
so grateful for photography..i was intrigued by photography at an early age, but really fell in love with it in high school when i had an art teacher that just inspired me, listened to me, and i felt kinda got me..the folks got me a canon ae1 program for my 15 th birthday and i had that up till college when it was stolen by a girl on our floor!..
i remember when my dad took me into the city to buy me my first darkroom setup - i think we went to adorama, just dad and me, we picked out the enlarger, the trays, the safe light , the timer.. the car was filled..and then dad stayed up all night and put it together for me, we made the basement light proof, i think my mom must have made some dark curtains.. turned the bar into a processing area.. i was set... and i would spend HOURS down there developing and processing..its how i had some sanity..( needless to say the enlarger was stolen years later! ).
and iv always worked in photography related jobs ( with the exception of my current career in finance ) and have always been thankful for the energy that happens when you around creative people.. grateful. Such is the case with this image, spent the day shooting, eating, chatting with people i met years ago in the stock photo business - friends and photographers.
grateful for flickr ( and nat ) for re inspiring me to get back to shooting, and posting, and sharing and learning...i just feel better when im shooting.. so thank you..
I've always thought that this bridge looks like it is made entirely of triangles. It's also all wooden.
