The millennium lift bridge (Lowry Bridge), designed by Daniel Libeskind, was opened to pedestrian and cycle traffic in 2000. It links the Lowry Centre on Salford Quays with the Imperial War Museum North, in Trafford, thus linking the twin cities of Salford and Manchester on either side of the Manchester Ship Canal.
Although very few high vessels now move to this point on the canal, the bridge was designed with a lift which gives 26 metres clearance to passing ships. The 96 metre bowstring arches are lifted by winch and counterweight, housed in each of the four corner towers.

Bridge #3 to span the Tacoma Narrows. Number 1, Galloping Gertie, fell down. Number 2 is too small. Solution, Number 3. Controversy aside, the thought is that Hwy 16 will no longer be a 3-day wagon ride from Gig Harbor to Tacoma.
Forth Bridge at the South Queensferry side taken with the Lensbaby 3g. Quite surprised at just how good this lensbaby is for this sort of stuff.
Selling my Lensbaby Muse, Nikon fit if anybody is interested. As new, bagged and boxed with all bits and bobs. Contact me!
