Chicago Police block off Michigan Ave. as President Obama's motorcade will be arriving soon at the Chicago Cultural Center where he is hosting a fundraising event
8422, 8418, 8414, 8410, 8406 and 8402. 8410 and 8426 (left edge) are by Forest Lane Builders. The three in the center are clearly by a single builder - could it also be Forest Lane?
Ice Block
This large centerpiece of ice was at our table when we were seated. This would be a course later in the meal.

i just made this block for the Charity Quilt flickr group started by Starlit Nest. Check it out, this is so worthwhile. The fabric on the large X is cream-on-cream cats, which I thought goes well with the yarn print!
A large, displaced block of fine-grained mudstone and/or siltstone, probably of the Early Cambrian Bomoseen Formation (also known as the Bull Formation; as mapped by Lucian Platt for his 1960 PhD Dissertation at Yale), bedding planes facing the viewer alongside East Lake Road (Cossayuna Lake) in the Town of Greenwich, Washington County, NY. This large block, like others alongside this road, was probably plucked from the adjacent hillside by the retreating Wisconsin (Latest Pleistocene) ice sheet in northern NY about 11-13,000 years ago. Rocks of the Bomoseen Formation are generally unfossiliferous except for Oldhamia (and some other) trace fossils (according to former NY State Paleontologist Ed Landing, who has studied northern Taconic geology in detail).
This block was done a little differently with dark and light placement (and this time I have more fabric!)
The pile of completed blocks. Currently there are seven completed patches of the grandmother's flower garden quilt blocks.
Block zombies made for a Total Miner short I'm planning. A quick set was thrown together for background. This one had some post work in Gimp.
Welcome Week ends with a bang at UL Lafayette's annual Block Party. Held at the corner of St. Mary and Rex, students are treated to free food, music, t-shirts and other fun, while celebrating life as a Ragin' Cajun.
My husband has been wanting me to make him a quilt of his own for a long time, and when I saw Happy Zombie's Ron Swanson quilt and knew immediately what I could make for him. Not Ron Swanson, unfortunately (though I may have to make that one for me) but one that I know he'll love....

Blocks covered with a light dusting of snow at the Farmer's Market Garden Center along Elston Avenue in West Walker, Chicago, March 5, 2011
The little girls' mom is a friend of my partner. My partner asked me to whip up the oldest a little bag because every time the little girl sees my partner she goes crazy waving at her, and my partner wanted to give her a little something. So, I made the little bag with the owl fabric and I made a large felt owl to match to applique on the front. Well, the little sister liked it so much she kept stealing it, so I made her a bag of her own using the letters fabric, I think it is Michael Miller fabric, with the felt block applique with an "A" for the first letter of her name.
Two Too Cute!
