The arcade which was erected between 1891 and 1893 was designed by architect David C. Askew whose brief was to produce something similar to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan. The result was one of Melbourne's most richly decorated interior spaces, replete with mosaic tiled flooring, glass canopy, wrought iron and carved stone finishings. The exterior façade of the six storey office has near identical facades on Collins and Elizabeth Streets and is one of Australia's best surviving examples of the Victorian Mannerist style.
The arcade was formerly known as "Carpenter's Lane", however the precinct was widely known as "The Block". Once the works were complete, local shopkeepers successfully petitioned to have it changed to its present name.
I've finished all three of the first block. I despair of ever taking a decent photo of these colours. Maybe, one day the sun will shine. The chartreuse and yellow should be really bright. And, it's not as wobbly as it looks either.
I had way too many beautiful black/white fabrics in my stash.
Think the bottom right block will need to disappear or get drastic cosmetic surgery.

During the Gloucester Block Party last Saturday, there was briefly a beautiful rainbow, which I managed to capture (despite my camera starting to malfunction).
My practice blocks for August in the Scrap Happy Bee quilting group. Made by cutting 7 inch strips, sewing them together, cutting apart vertically, rearranging and sewing. These ended up being around 6 inches. I'm sending these along with the actual blocks so maybe they will find a use too.
my first two block prints. i think i'll get more into this because it was pretty fun and now i know a little more about what i'm doing with it.

This quick snapshot was taken during the first blocking rehearsal of 'How I Learned to Drive'. It is also the first published photo I took with my new Verizon iPhone. Not a bad little point and shoot camera.
So...what is "blocking"? In theatre, when actors move around on stage, they are not doing that in an unplanned fashion. Every action an actor takes on stage, from picking up a mug of coffee to casually strolling over to a fellow actor, is planned in advance. This planning of actions is called "blocking". The Director has the actors start practicing this very early on because by the time opening night comes, all the movement on stage must look very natural and unrehearsed. Actors can also use the blocking to help memorize lines, by knowing that when an actor walks to point X on the stage, they are to begin an argument with another character.
So, now you know a little bit about theatre stuff - who knew my little Project 365 blog would educate as well as entertain [y'all are laughing at how bad my photos have been the last few days, right?].

This block has not turned out how i wanted but never mind ,chey will still think it's great because it will be all his! just have to do the other one...it was bit of a fight as i kept forgetting to have right side of fabric up and ended up with pairs! I used freezer paper for the template and it worked really well .
