Huge tree branch fell on our house during summer storm, August 21, 2011 - damage to evestrough, and car, Husband had just pulled into driveway and I was in enclosed front porch when the branch fell on house and front yard ... either of use could have been hit! Scary!

This was just an exercise in creating a dramatic image by balancing the flash and available ambient light in the hallway of the tower block where I live. Ideally there shouldn't be a shadow in the background, but I couldn't get my subject far away enough from the wall. I don't know why the data says that the flash didn't fire, maybe it's because I used a remote trigger? Next step is to try out a modifier for my speedlight like an umbrella, and work upwards. Obviously a much bigger staircase would be ideal, but this is about working with what I have, not what I'd like to have. This one was taken ages before I started doing this course. I'd just read [well skimmed would be more accurate] Frank Doorhof's Mastering the model shoot, and got the idea from that book...

i.e. SBS block #15

I'm very proud of all the points ;)

Having made one paper pieced block before I thought I would have no problems with this one, so of course there had to be an initial hiccup (I cut the bits for the corners a bit too small) but in the end it went quite well.

October 2, 2016: Parkside Ave. Block Party, Brooklyn

The breeze-block temple that appeared during the summer on the eastern peninsula of Tommy Thompson Park, Toronto. August 2021.

Even though the temple is situated next to a beach full of rubble, I suspect that the creator(s) must have brought with them much of the building materials, including the mortar they used to secure the bricks. This definitely took some time and effort and possibly planning!

It was a wonderfully eccentric and inspiring creation and I'm glad I got to experience it first hand. Sadly, a week or two later after I took these shots the park authorities demolished it for safety reasons.

Froebel blocks were developed in the 1830s by Friedrich Froebel, who believed that children learn through play. These smooth wooden blocks present geometric shapes and patterns in increasing complexity. Children ages 7 - 14 discovered the fun and excitement of building with Froebel blocks in this workshop presented by the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust.

Block 2 for the Moose on the Porch Quilt along. Based on a design by Vickie Eapen. Simplified the block to make better use of one of my larger scale prints. I like how it turned out, but it might need a few buttons scattered about to tie it in to the first block. Will embellish the blocks as I get more of them done.

Harmony circle, I really loved this block!

The much needed blocks arrived in part the last week I was on site to allow us to build the walls on house 5 up to floor level. As you can see, these are big buildings.
