A new thought
is remembering its
soul. For so long
a lonely vigilance
has guarded the
soil of faith.
Listen and see;
become the willing
servant of love.
Anything can heal
your fear
if you bless it.

The Aronitic Blessing in Hebrew in the Lutheran Congregation House in Jaffa, photographed in 1976. In the King James English Bible, it reads:
"The Lord bless thee, and keep thee; The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee; The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace." (Numbers 6, 24-26).

A cross of weathered straw and faded flowers spreads blessings on a house in Vitor, Peru.
I saw new crosses with fresh flowers in similar locations on other houses in the area.
I understand the crosses are ritual objects from customary ceremonies to bless new houses

Pokey, receiving his blessing from Rev. Heidi Edson at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Chester, VT. Today the church celebrated the Feast of St. Francis and invited all pet owners, whether religious or not, to bring their pets for the annual blessing. For those not familiar with it, here's a little info: Sunday closest to October 4. In the Roman Catholic tradition, October 4 is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis (1182-1226) was a monk who founded the contemporary order of Franciscans. He was known for his vow of poverty and his special connection to animals, among many other things. Many Unitarian Universalists have picked up on the Catholic tradition of blessing animals, particularly pets, on this day. St. Francis may receive little attention at this service, but a number of congregations will bless pets at the service. Some people bring their pets to church, others bring photographs of their pets; others have their pets blessed by naming them. Some congregations celebrate this service at other, variable times of the year.
