A mirror-reflection of fluffy reeds along the pond at the wildlife refuge, on a February afternoon

I was working in my flowers in the front yard and turned to see this little guy peeking out of this bird box! They're not usually seen in the daytime: a nearby woods was cut down so he may be looking for a new home. Interestingly, yesterday a male bluebird was perching atop this same box, picking up a stick and dropping it repeatedly - then he jumped down and looked into the hole several times! What is going on this time of year? Then ... a Hairy woodpecker chased the bluebird off and he looked inside the hole! Anyone want to peek inside??

Something to close out the night ... will catch up tomorrow

My first mammal box. I have plans for improvements but it is already very busy day and night

Squawking back to its parents, this chick appears to be shouting obscenities to me!

Oh what a night , we all went out to the Big Branch , us Bluetits , the Starling Boys , the Goldfinch Gang , the Scary Sparras , Ray the Robin ( those guys don't mix well amongst themselves ) and not forgetting that crazy Woodpecker Wynston !! Talking of Woodpecker , that's the problem I reckon why my head hurts and I am as sick as a parrot - That pile of rotting apples we were pecking on all night must have been fermenting !! Strewth , someone said it was getting on for 45% ABV !!!!

No wonder I could not fly straight , that holly bush really hurt and it is a good job no one saw me when I tried to land on the frozen pond next door - after that it's all a blank and no idea how I got back up here and Mrs Bluetit is not chirping to me today at all !!

Think I need a hair of the dog - make it a large one !!

A silly interpretation of the shot with one aim - to lighten the day and I hope raise a smile .

Stay Safe and Stay Well Folks !!

I like the way the male is ducking . the female seemed to be pecking at the male as she fluttered around although the male didn't seem to mind much . there were many pairs of these swallows flying around, could be a different female (not this male's mate) that was pecking at it . there were also bluebirds nesting in this box and the bluebird parents were seen to occasionly enter the box.

I'm delighted to watch the comings and goings in this bird box cited on a tree in our garden.

A pair of tiny little blue tits have been busy bringing in nesting material over a number of weeks and are now bringing in food.

No sound from the little ones yet but loud chirping when they are not happy to pop in (i.e. when our cat is nearby). The box is cited up high and our cat is old, so no danger there.

Mother Nature at its best!

Well with the Covid 19 lockdown well under way, I am conforming to the advice and self isolating at home. So, sat in my study looking out into the garden, I have resorted to getting out my little used zoom lens and shooting what I can from the safety of my home!

Here are 2 Tree Sparrows, also appearing conform to our Governments advice. Having sat here paying more attention than normal to the activity around me in the Garden, I now have images of 12 species and counting! Its amazing what is there when you are forced to concentrate on what is around you. So watch this space. I will look to post a different species every day and see where that takes me!

We have named this little bird Sophie and she is nesting in a box just outside our window, she has 10 eggs and they will hatch this week :-) I have added below the egg shot and sophie in the box but with the flickr layout now not sure you will see it :-) One of BBC Springwatch - Photos of the Week 02/05/2014 and BBC Springwatch Photo of the Day too......... thrilled!!

It's always best to check things out from every angle before moving in.

Lockdown day 5

With not much to do during yet more lockdown I made some improvements to my old mammal box with a cctv birdbox camera. I have lined the walls with wood glue and compost. It took a couple of days for the mice to accept the changes but they seem happy now

Yesterday this squirrel stuck his head into one of my birdboxes and then proceeded to chew away at the opening.

Even if he made it larger, he still wouldn't fit inside !

The text on the bottom of this box reads "Home Tweet Home".

Yes , it is Saturday Self Challenge time again and this week we are tasked with taking a photograph of food ! So not as easy a task as you would have thought . I first had the idea of taking a shot of a pop up noodle bar that appears locally , but not wanting to make it obvious I was taking a photograph , I took one from a distance and cropped it . However , this was now afternoon and from the angle there was no a lot of food in the shot - see my insert .

So ! Thinking outside the box , in this case a birdbox I took a shot of the supply for my winged visitors .

On the menu we see scrumptious FatSnax with a side ( well middle really ) of tasty assorted seeds .

N.B. this menu is strictly al fresco dining only .

To all my flickr friends....keep safe, keep well and keep sane :)

Bright coloured bird boxes spotted in a tree in Duinrell Netherlands.

I was parked under a tree in the shade when I noticed these baby Sparrowhawks waiting for their lunch. I had the wrong lens with me as I wasn't expecting to see something like this. It was into strong sunlight as well, so a bit tricky all round really. I felt I had to take it though.

Any tips on this sort of photography would be gratefully received! I will add that I was very careful not to disturb them and they seemed quite used to people, as there were several around.

The bluetits are nesting, but rather than go in the bird box they used last year, and which I cleared out for them, they've chosen to go in this oversized one that's too difficult to clear. Goodness knows what it's like inside as its had bees living in there too. And another pair are nesting under a roof tile.

This snake wanted the baby birds. But they fledged two days ago. Lucky birds, unlucky snake.

2020 Weekly Alphabet Challenge: Daring. I'm the daring one, getting this close to this guy. Although I wasn't concerned at all.
