I think the bird's name might have been Jimmy Buffeted. LOL. It was quite windy on this day, with gusts that caused the birds to react quickly to avoid being toppled over.
This beautiful male was checking to see if the birdbox it was perched on was suitable for nesting. It must have been, as he did a bit of house cleaning, removing what looked to be old fecal matter.
Although hard to see in this shot, I believe the bird has a parasite in its right naris (nostril), possibly a mite.
Not sure the birds will be keen on the colourfulness, but it was gift from from a grandchild, and therefore has pride of place!

These Blue Tits have decided to nest in the box I made for them in our garden. It is the second year running a pair have used it.
It was taken through our window on a wet, damp day, but it was lovely to see them!

I'm already decorating for spring :) So all the flowers have to bloom, and it's a great time to enjoy some cute donuts with February's flavour of love :)

One of 7 successfully fledged Blue tit chicks. All chicks that hatched on 15th of May fledged after 20 days in box.
LOL ... The weekend has arrived and I believe that means it's safe to come out and enjoy! Here in western Colorado, it's a gorgeous one as well ... sunny and perfect temperatures.
Couldn't help but snap this image of this curious tree swallow as it peeks out of its "residence" ... aka bird box. The tree swallow ventures further north than any other swallow. Pretty cool, since there are so many species of swallows in North America.
Well, short and sweet this morning ... Hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend ahead.

Brrrr.....it looks very cold out there, I think I stay inside until the frost has gone.
Mr. Sparrow in our garden.
PVCC bluebird trail. These probably fledged a few days after this photo was taken. They're on a steady path towards adulthood.
This is one of the newly fledged Blue Tits, from the nest box in our garden, being fed by it's parent. Three fledged yesterday afternoon but the parents are still going into the nest box with food today and bringing out fecal sacs, so there must be some more in there.

If you are a fan of Stranger Things then maybe you'll get the mood of the title with the theme song straight from season 1 ;) This scene reminded me of something from The Upside Down... I'm all about the moody fog and atmosphere but there is a healthy fear I carry of getting lost. Or maybe being left behind. I have a vivid imagination and going through the mountain roads when they look like this stir up so many scenarios in my head ha! Sorry for posting so many images lately. I've had a lot on my mind and have found myself immersing myself in my work lately. It is now 3:00 am in my time zone, I guess I better call it a night or should I say morning. Hope your week is going good, thanks for putting up with all the extra images coming through.

One of my little trips out to the Fernhill Wetlands produced this gem... There were a lot of boxes but the birds were so active I was lucky to get a good shot of one sitting on the box....

If you go down to the woods today,
You're sure of a big surprise.
If you go down to the woods today,
You'd better go in disguise.
For every bear that ever there was
Will gather there for certain because
Today's the day the teddy bears have their picnic.
(11/365) This nest box should be attractive to Wrens, Robins & Pied Wagtails all of which we have in our garden. Found a safe place to fix it out of sight behind the oil tank fence where the Griselinia foliage will hide it. Hope somebody moves in this Spring HFF!

This "steam punk" influenced bird box was a Christmas present, it looks fun and makes a great garden decoration but we didn't think any bird was likely to show any interest, especially as we don't have the ideal position in our garden - over 3m high and NE facing. Anyway, despite all of this our resident Great Tit has had a look inside at least three times...so we are hopeful.
Not the best shot...taken through the patio door.
HWW!
I rejoined the RSPB and got my free bird box.Put it up on my porch and within a week or so a pair of blue tits moved in.Now we have little ones and the parents are working very hard to feed them....but I do put out some live mealworms on the bird table which is about 5m away so they don't have to work to hard sometimes : )
Happy Wing Wednesday
The bluetits have been a bit choosy about this box , after a few years of some successful family raising , last year a couple started building a nest only to find a short time later the bluetits were taking the nesting material out to somewhere else . This year a couple of prospective residents have been spotted looking over the place and even a pair of great tits have been spotted having a look but as at this point in time I have not seen anyone moved in . Every October I have given the box a Spring Clean ( or should that be Autumn Clean ! ) so that should not be an issue .
Anyway , this checkover did yield a shot .
No chance to go out today as waiting for someone to come and unblock my kitchen sink, so just a shot from the garden.

We were delighted to see that a pair of Blue Tits had decided to nest in one of my homemade nest boxes in our garden. This is one of the adults removing a fecal sac from the nest. They carry it away some distance from the nest before discarding it. Taken through our lounge window.

It's kind of crazy to think that this little box has been the birth place to many Eastern Bluebirds now. I used it as a subject while testing my Polaroid Pronto Sonar conversion to i-Type film the other day. That just made me stop and think about how interesting it is to have a successful bird house or two.

A shaky, hand-held video of a male mountain bluebird that is bringing food to it's brood. I've been told by a bluebird expert that the wing flashes are used to signal something to its mate. Whether that is every time it raises a wing or not, I don't know, but this one seems to have lots to say.
Although this link is for a different bluebird species, there are similarities: HP@#LocalAccount01
