Tiny, individually wrapped sausages meant to be packed into bentos or eaten as snacks. Comes with the hair accessory. Clearly aimed at little girls and their hapless parents.

The taste can be best described as...vile.

This is the kid's bento box that I bought at the Japan Block Fair on Manhattan's Upper West Side on Sunday. Not only was it very cute, it was quite tasty.

**October 14, 2010: I've had to turn off comments from anyone who is not a contact. There are too many trolls out there with nothing better to do than leave rude remarks. I block them, but it's easier this way. If you're not a contact, but would like to be, send me a message. Trolls are infantile & stupid and I don't want their comments on my Flickr stream. I regret that I must do this because of these lame brains.**

No rice, just the egg wrapped in nori.

Don't worry, it's not for me, it's for a younger brother who hates eating!

I bought this bento box for our train trip from Kyoto to Tokyo (a little over 2 hours) – the packaging and presentation was so nice, I didn't want to wreck it by eating it and found immense joy with the discovery of the tiny fish soy sauce dispenser. This cost about 1000 Yen (a little over $9.00).

I visited Family Market, a Japanese market on Broadway in Astoria, NY. They always have bento boxes at lunchtime. This one was quite good although the salmon was on the dry side.

So after staring at the cutesy pictures and yummy looking healthy lunches I decided to hop on the fad-wagon and get myself a Bento set.

I just had to have a Mink Monkey set because cutie-pie Mink seems to love to read almost as much as I do. I'm hoping that the Bento thing will inspire me to actually make my lunch and take it to work. I eat out way too often and thats not healthy for the body or the budget. I'm figuring that the mug will be a perfect replacement for my plastic disposable cup that I eat my yogurt and Grape Nuts in while driving to work. The chopsticks and slide case are absolutely adorable but I don't think I'll ever use them. I can just imagine how late I would be to pick up my class from the cafeteria if I attempted to eat my lunch with them. The actual Bento box is child-sized so I'm think it could hold an after school snack instead of my actual lunch.

This set cost me $26.50 and that included shipping from Japan.

Much better deal than most American-based sites had.

This was also my fist ever ebay purchase. The seller was really nice and answered all my silly questions.

St. Patrick's Day bento for the 5yo. I had to explain why there was a guy with a scraggly beard on his egg and also why there was a rainbow and a pot of gold on his tofu. Don't they teach these kids anything in school?
