All priced at US$10.50, regardless of size or design. Hakoya boxes are good quality boxes. (I have no commercial affiliations with Kamei or Hakoya.) Full details with box info are here.
The dish on the right sits on top of the rice dish on the left. You have no way of knowing what the rice will be like. Most often, it's plain white rice, but sometimes you get lucky. I don't buy bento boxes that often anymore because prices have gone up. It's sad, but true. They've gone up everywhere and Family Market in Astoria is no exception.

I'm exagerating of course, but not by much. I just had to have this cute Lock & Lock box. It's like a "Minime" Saba Man box. Eggplant and squash korma, roasted asparagus, tamagoyaki, falafel, saturn peach and the usual fillers.

And I this scene is from a memo pad found at From Japan with love :
Tiny, individually wrapped sausages meant to be packed into bentos or eaten as snacks. Comes with the hair accessory. Clearly aimed at little girls and their hapless parents.
The taste can be best described as...vile.
This is the kid's bento box that I bought at the Japan Block Fair on Manhattan's Upper West Side on Sunday. Not only was it very cute, it was quite tasty.
**October 14, 2010: I've had to turn off comments from anyone who is not a contact. There are too many trolls out there with nothing better to do than leave rude remarks. I block them, but it's easier this way. If you're not a contact, but would like to be, send me a message. Trolls are infantile & stupid and I don't want their comments on my Flickr stream. I regret that I must do this because of these lame brains.**
Fastest bento I've made-- 10mins...
Don't worry, it's not for me, it's for a younger brother who hates eating!
To illustrate an article on my (real) bento blog Just Bento: A Japanese Life in Bento. The Secret girlie version of this set is here.
I bought this bento box for our train trip from Kyoto to Tokyo (a little over 2 hours) – the packaging and presentation was so nice, I didn't want to wreck it by eating it and found immense joy with the discovery of the tiny fish soy sauce dispenser. This cost about 1000 Yen (a little over $9.00).
I visited Family Market, a Japanese market on Broadway in Astoria, NY. They always have bento boxes at lunchtime. This one was quite good although the salmon was on the dry side.
