PLEASE CHECK OUT MY NEW TRIBUTE TO TREES: www.flickr.com/photos/eastbaywilds/sets/72157622127533976/
Another from the snowy woods along the Fox River north of St. Charles. Although the air wasn't overly cold, the wet snow falling combined with the wind made me glad I had bundled up.
The woods in winter are such a study in contrast: the intricate detail of bare branches against the vast, bland backdrop of overcast sky, riverwater gray and sowcover white. What struck me in the woods that day... was the almost completel lack of color, other than drab gray/brown and white. And yet there is stark beauty in 'winter drab'... all on it's own. Still... adding some cool blue tones brought the visual temperature down, and made the river look like water.
I love these woods... so photogenic in all seasons!

Film: 35mm Fujifilm Superia X-tra (ISO 400)
One of my favourite views, especially with that tree framing the picture.
Fujifilm doesn't half make things look green - what will it be like in the summer I wonder? A feast for the eyes I hope!

A mature bare Oak tree by the roadside at Thorpe, Lower Teesdale, against an almost cloudless deep blue sky in very strong winter sunshine. Just a little further down the same lane as this Sycamore:
Im trying to find the right words tonight, but I just cant. Things are never the way they seem, no ...a lot of time they are worse. Alcoholism and drugs can ruin families and destroy lives. I have never had to make real close contact to any subjects like this until a few years ago with some family members. Things have gotten worse and we simply dont know how to help or what to do anymore. It makes me really sad to see them go and wander of into the dark world even more. I am thankful I have my husband and that he got on the right track many, many, many years ago. But I just wish we could open their eyes and let them see the beautiful world around us and that there is more to life then what they are seeing :(.

First morning sunlight colors the winter mountain landscape of the Roan Highlands.
View from Little Hump Mountain looking at snowy Big Yellow Mountain with snow capped Grassy Ridge Bald on the upper far right. Little Yellow Mountain is seen in the center distance with the Black Mountain Range beyond. Icy branched hawthorn trees dot the hilly landscape with red tinged beech trees on each side of the nearby valley.
