Just after sunrise on a foggy morning - another exploring Hopewell shot.

Built around 1850, these are the remains of the Diamond Springs Stage Station

Diamond Springs was an important point along the Santa Fe Trail because it was the last safe stop going west and the last dependable source for clean water. The trail west of Diamond Springs did not have reliable water supplies and Indian attacks were frequent.

On May 4, 1863, a band of pro-slavery guerrillas attacked the station, killing the station master and severely wounding his wife. After the attack, the station was moved 6 miles (9.7km) away to a new place, appropriately enough called Six Mile Stage Station.

Diamond Springs is so named because the spring nearby was described as “The Diamond of the Plains” when it was first discovered.

Ok, last shot from that gorgeous avenue of trees :) !!! I loved the colours on the moss and the fallen leaves, but I do think the twisty trunks look striking in black and white!

Buddhism teaches that Zen can be achieved by sitting quietly, breathing rhythmically and eyes open. In reaching Zen the mind is in a state of relaxed attention, leaving behind logical, analytic thinking as well as all desires, attachments and judgments; bringing a person to enlightenment. I believe in that hiking on the Appalachian Trail a person can reach a sort of Zen.

Taken from the front porch of the Montana house in which I grew up. All through my life this tree has grown up and provided a daily backdrop. Now, its sisters gone, it stands alone.

Located in Prospect Park Brooklyn. Surrounded by Lullwater and ultimately, Prospect Park Lake.

Normanby Hall in the snow, lovely weather for photos indeed. Seen here on 14/01/2013.

Well, I call it the swamp because ... because ... well ... it's kind of swampy in there when it isn't frozen. When I posted a pano from the boardwalk a little while ago (reprised in Comment section), someone suggested that I take another in winter. So, I did. Seven vertical shots this time.

Late afternoon in the middle of our coldest December. Looks lovely, doesn't it?

This is on the hillside above the 'Frozen valley' shot from earlier.

How many times have you driven by that 'certain spot'...

camera beside you in the car... and thought, 'At some point

I'm gonna stop and shoot here...'? This is one of those spots

for me... and this morning was the time.

It's a two-lane road lined with a canopy of huge trees... and

wide open areas sectioned off by white wooden fences.

And this morning there was... can't really call it a proper fog...

but nicely filtered morning sun to work with.

It wasn't a clean morning... there was a sort of atmospheric

grittiness to the air. But the out-of-camera shots didn't

accurately tell that story... so with the help of some split-toning

and texture... I did. =) Now it feels like this morning!

116 Pictures in 2016 #74: Bird with a colour in its name.

This is the best I could do for this Blue Jay. It was so skittish (as were all of his/her friends) that I couldn't get any closer...even with the long lens.
