Heading back to the Calgary airport to fly home after time in Alberta and the Canadian Rockies I stopped at Vermillion Lakes. I was too late for the sunrise but the mood of the day was great as the clouds rolled in. The storm would shortly blanket the area with snow. I caught the light of this scene in the still moments before the wind and snow began. I do love this area of the Rockies.

The Mount Norquay Ski Camp (cabin) is officially opened on February 3, becoming a community ski and social hub for outdoor activity and gatherings. Guests arrive by foot or horse-drawn sleigh for après-ski parties running well into the night. Local interest shifts from cross-country skiing and ski jumping to downhill skiing.

After years of taking pictures of this place, I finally got to spend a night there. What a great place to play hide and seek.
The charming little town of Banff, Alberta, Canada. As might be expected, it is also a tourist trap - everything costs 50-100% more than what it should.

Here we see the town of Banff in the Bow River Valley of Banff National Park, with Cascade Mountain looming over the town on the left.
The mountain was named in 1858 by James Hector after the waterfall or cascade on the southern flanks of the peak. Cascade is the highest mountain adjacent to the Banff town site.
The famous Banff Springs Hotel can be seen in the lower center of the shot.
