Some comments value this photograph as a BW shot. It is in fact a color shot. I tried it in BW, but I think it lost the small amount of glow. What you see is a focus stacked shot consisting of 8 shots with different focus point.
The image I tried to upload yesterday when Flickr was having an off day.
With this shot taken after the sun had gone behind the hill I focused on the Oats.
I reduced my exposure to retain detail in not only the sky but also the Oats who were being backlit by the setting sun, I did enhance the Oats a little by a highlights dodging layer to make them lighter and stand out more.
Thanks for the visits, faves and comments its greatly appreciated.
I promise Jeff belted kingfisher she is wintering close to my property -so far only this heron, i see her few times with no chance to take shot
This photo was shot a little differently. Instead of using the wider angle 14-24mm Nikon lens, I used my more narrow 70-200mm Nikon telephoto lens. I up to now have never tried using a long range lens for northern lights for many reasons. One of those reasons being that is has a reduce viewing angle. In other words I would be able to photograph a lot less of the sky.
Thick Fog, full moon and Eastham Oil Terminal providing the backlighting hidden in the fog.
This field has a bit of a slope and with the fog heavy on the right the straightened natural horizon looked weird. So, i have straightened it a bit artificially, resulting in me looking like i'm leaning into the shot. I kind of think it suits the mood of the photo.
