Ok, don't laugh! It's been months since I fired up the torch, and when I tried to make some a couple of weeks ago, it was a disaster :-(. Wonkies here, there, everywhere, what a mess. I only managed to save a few. I need to "go back to school" at the torch and practice!
The good news is that a dear sweet person actually tracked me down and was interested in my beads! :-D I was so amazed! Thank you my friend for going through all that trouble to find me! Well, I promised to make her some beads, and instead of keeping her waiting until I could make some decent ones, she graciously agreed to rescue these practice beadies from the garbage bin. They are not decent enough to sell, but at least they will go to a good home :-)!

As the title says, I'm back in Bermuda! Hooray! Colour can now be added to photostream.
I have to say it is much better than I could have ever imagined. I am usually struck by how gorgeous Bermuda is but this time it was ridiculous. I love it! I don't know if it was the euphoric state of 36 hours of no sleep but when I went to beach (Horseshoe) a few hours after getting off the plane, it was the most amazing-beautiful-jaw dropping time at the beach ever. I can't explain enough how happy I was to be back at the beach. The crystal clear turquoise water, the soft pink and white sand, the cool breeze, the bright sun, the calm surf, the sound of the beach, the Parrot fish just beneath the cliff in the distance. It was all amazing. Words cannot describe. I was like a kid in a candy shop, I was in heaven. I shot over 4 gigs in about 45 minutes...
Expect to see quite a few more from my time at Horseshoe, I shot pretty much everything in sight.

After over a YEAR (more?) of ill-mourned absence from supermarket shelves, my much-yearned-for Del Monte Banana Ketchup has finally appeared again!!
Now I can have my fried chicken, meatballs, and lechon kawali tasting EXACTLY as they should! Viva Del Monte!

We in the advertising business always talk about brands and products and how we want people to relate to them, to have an emotional and visceral response to them. Sure, once in a while some cynicism creeps in, and the random "are we just BS-ing these people?" thought whisks through one's head.
But it's incidents like these that affirm how much certain products DO affect us emotionally. I never realized how much I'd miss this damn DM banana ketchup until they stopped stocking it. Sure, sure, there's Jufran and UFC and Papa banana ketchups, but they're NOT. THE. SAME. (Mind you, they have their own multitude of uses too -- I cannot conceive of Max's Fried Chicken without Jufran Banana Ketchup, for instance.) But certain dishes you've grown up with DEMAND that they go with the sauces you also grew up with.
Am I being too fanatical? I don't think so. Look at any random plane-load of OFWs arriving at NAIA. Look closely at their eyes -- that manic, ravenous look in their eyes, nearly murderous, secretly and wordlessly screaming: "JOLLIBEE CHICKENJOY!!!!"
I think people each have their own products that they (perhaps unknowingly) will mourn over if they ever get discontinued. I'm sure if I tried, I could find sizeable communities of fanatics for any product -- Starbucks coffee, Auntie Anne's pretzels, Jamaican patties, Jollibee's Peach Mango Pie, Chowking's Nai Cha, even Choc-Nut and Storck Menthol Candy.
Other discontinued products continue to leave small but real voids in our lives. Did you notice that they no longer stock PLANTER'S Cheese Curls and Cheese Balls anymore? What do you do when you have a 3am craving for Planter's and the nearest store selling it is in Los Angeles, California?
In a very real way, our youth is enshrined in the products that we grew up with. I would probably give up a sizeable chunk of my savings for an authentic 1980's-style one-liter bottle of Magnolia Chocolait -- the original GLASS bottle (with the cardboard cap!) that you'd need to shake before opening, because you can clearly see that the chocolatey goodness has settled on the bottom of the bottle.
But for now, I'll settle for my current obsession: Kopi Roti coffee buns. Someday they might discontinue these too; I'll just have to make sure I get my fill before they do...

This is a little Jacket that I made Saturday to wear to a festival I worked on Sunday. It was a chilly day so I constructed this wool herringbone Carraco Jacket. It was from an 1750's pattern that I adapted slightly to have a more 1770's shape.
