Black-backed Puffback has one of the more distinctive of the bird calls heard when visiting subtropical or tropical dry forests and dry savanna areas of Southern-Africa. An interesting fact is that the scientific binomial for the Black-backed puffback is Dryoscopus cubla; Dryoscopus from the Greek for “a watcher from the trees” and cubla which derives from a Hottentot word of obscure meaning, but the word is pronounced with an initial click that is said to imitate the bird’s distinctive call.
They feed mainly on insects, but also on fruit, and do most of their feeding in the upper canopy where they glean insects from leaves and branches.

The Green-backed Heron (butorides striata) belongs to the family of birds classified as Ardeidae. The male and female Green-backed Heron have the same plumage and colours. Head is black. Eye is yellow. Bill is black. Throat is white. Back is black, grey. Legs are orange. The Green-backed Heron feeds on the ground mainly: invertebrates, aquatic life forms.
Kruger National Park is a South African National Park and one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It covers an area of 19,623 km2 in the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga in northeastern South Africa, and extends 360 km from north to south and 65 km from east to west.

Back to business. Returning sometimes feels like jumping on a moving train. New Orleans, btw, was awesome. I think Allison and I found our Vegas.

Ever wonder what it would be like to be part of the stage crew for a great singer. For a moment I was back stage watching this star, Eastern Meadowlark give the performance of her life. Obviously the audience was socially distanced.
I was looking for another post card and found this one. Mailed in 46 from a young man of 16 that went on the road as help for a carnival. Mailed from Colorado to family back in Arkansas. One of the articles I thought was lost in the flood but it survived, how much longer will this get past through family lineages. There was no way of knowing that when this was mailed that one day it would be subject to world wide view. Smile on Saturday - Postcards & Greeting Cards.
the osprey are nesting in the same nest again now so I'm excited. I will go back periodically and check on them and take photos. And thankfully now, I won't be lugging a toddler size lens and a tripod. Yah!!! I love this much smaller size and lighter weight equipment!
I go see my ortho doc this morning and hopefully won't have to wear my cast anymore. Things are healing well. Let's hope that's what the ex-ray will show. I'll catch up with you all later! ❤️
This wonderful jaguar was the first one we found in our last expedition to Pantanal. The situation there is very sad, the forests are burnt and the the drought lasts for 3 years. I hope that soon the monsoon starts and bring life back to Pantanal. Luckily, the site where the jaguars are didn't suffer so much from the fires and we were lucky to find female jaguars with cubs, which I'll be posting in the coming days.
Facts: The jaguar (Panthera onca) is a big cat, a feline in the Panthera genus, and is the only extant Panthera species native to the Americas. The jaguar is the third-largest feline species after the tiger and the lion, and the largest in the Americas. The jaguar is a near-threatened species and its numbers are declining. Threats include loss and fragmentation of habitat. While international trade in jaguars or their parts is prohibited, the cat is still frequently killed by humans, particularly in conflicts with ranchers and farmers in Brazil.

This is J Mart in Pisek, ND. (Population 87). All the boxes are full of hand bagged chocolates and candy. Including a selection of sugar free. Hand written signs, hand written receipts, original tin ceiling, old school cash register. A row of white freezers, not commercial freezers. Every year they order tons of goodies; this year they have 9,500 pounds of candy - yes, you read that correctly. It’s a throw back to the 40’s or maybe earlier! We loved it. Nobody pushed, everyone was patient. No debit cards, no credit cards, just cash or cheques. And the chocolate was yummy!

The Yellow-backed Oriole is well-named, as it is one of the very few species of orioles with a yellow back. Indeed, this oriole shows only two colors, yellow and black: the wings are entirely black, the feathers lacking the white or yellow feather margins that are shown by most other species of oriole.
The Yellow-backed Oriole has an oddly discontinuous distribution: it occurs from southern Mexico south to northeastern Nicaragua, and again from Panama south to northern Colombia and Venezuela, but is absent from Costa Rica and from most of Nicaragua. This oriole has a very broad elevational range, ranging up to 2500 m in Central America and almost to 2700 m in Colombia.

The back entrance to the compartment of an old Benedictine monastery. Who has already come in and gone out here? Who wants to know that! Curiosity? The monastery dates from the 12th century. In the meantime, however, it has been destroyed, changed and rebuilt. The current abbey is said to date essentially from the 18th century.

der himmel über berlin war öfters blau und manchmal grau... es war schön berlin wieder neu zu entdecken, es hat sich auch einiges seit meinen letzten besuch vor über 10 jahren geändert...

Clocks went back last night, so I ventured out and got a shot of Dunstanburgh Castle this morning, would of loved to of seen it Back in Time before it became a part ruin
Flying Scotsman on the East Lancs Railway. Two weekend trials before going back in to full service mid February. The Scotsman is painted Black (WW2 Colours). If tests are fine, the Flying Scotsman will be painted in it usual Green colour.
The Moss-backed Tanager is typical chunky-bodied Bangsia tanager with a comparatively large-looking head, which is violet-blue, contrasting with the largely dull green body plumage, and the yellow center to the upper breast. It is a group-living bird, which is found just as frequently apart from other species as within mixed-species flocks. Another unusual behavior of the Moss-backed Tanager is the propensity for individuals to perch high on an exposed perch in a clearing or above the forest canopy. The species is distributed from west-central Colombia to northwest Ecuador, and ranges to elevations around 2100 m in wet and mossy cloud forests.
