The second batch of buses delivered to First Aberdeen Ltd in corporate FirstGroup "Barbie" livery arrived in November 1998.

Nos 550 - 561 (S550 JSE - S561 JSE), operated just over three years in the Granite City before transferring elsewhere as they were to become non-standard types in what was to become a Volvo dominated fleet.

The first withdrawals occurred in March 2001 (551 - 554) and by July that year all twelve buses had gone.

Nos 550 - 559 became First Glasgow No 1 Ltd Nos SS163, SS154 - SS162 (later 61567 - 61576), and Nos 560 & 561 became First Manchester Ltd Nos 178 & 171 (later 60222 & 60215).

Bit late in posting this but last week it was announced that Wrightbus entered administration. There has been plenty of Wright buses in Shetland over the years with the first being a Scania L113 Wright Axcess Ultralow for Whites which was the indeed the first low floor entry bus in Shetland in 1995. There has been plenty of Wrightbus arrivals ever since and they certinlay were common in the Isles but there is now only 3 left with them being Streetlite W60, VDL SB200 Wright Pulsar T30 and DAF SB200 Wright Commander YD02 RDY.

One of the many Wrightbus arrivals in Shetland was DAF SB200 Commander YD02RDY which was originally new to Arriva in March 2002 as a demonstrator but arrived in Shetland for Leasks a year later as one of their original low floor buses. It has spent almost its entire career on Shetland at just 17 years old.

However Shetland is one Wrightbus down again as YD02, has now been withdrawn from use since August. A month before the announcement about Wrightbus. Sadly, it has not proved itself very reliable since it returned to use in May this year after a long period off the road. Seen here at the depot rear yesterday where it has been parked since it’s withdrawal, looking rather shabby and sorry for itself. It is currently unclear at this stage what will happen to it but it will most likely be going for scrap

There was rumors of a pair of Wright Streetlite Max buses arriving as the replacements for B7RLE MCVs T40 & T50 however this won’t be happening anymore. T40 is still in use with the other buses filling in the gaps for T50 on the Sumburgh run but there are no more new buses planned just now

P106 MFS is a Scania L113CRL/Wright Axcess Ultralow new as Strathclyde Buses SS6 in November 1996. It was one of the first low floor buses in the fleet following Firstbus taking over the Strathclyde Buses, GCT and Kelvin Central fleets and was the first low floor Scania in the fleet. Initially delivered in allover red, it was later repainted into First corporate "Barbie" livery and is now a trainer within the Glasgow fleet.

From memory SS6-9 never had Firstbus purple interiors and the first purple Firstbus standard interior started in R plate SS10 and the first Barbie liveried Scania delivered was SS47. The batch ended with tyransferred V plates in the SS120 range, again from memory. I must look out an old fleetbook. Most are long gone now but good to see this one remaining in the driver training fleet.

Photographed in Liverpool city centre on driver training duties is this Stagecoach Merseyside & South Lancashire Scania L94UB with Wrightbus Axcess Floline bodywork, which features the latest driver training livery.

It is registered X266 USH with the fleet number of 28540, and was previously 60210 in the First Chester and Wirral fleet but new to First Manchester back in January 2001 as their 166.

North of San Francisco is Santa Rosa, a pleasant city that has a surprisingly comprehensive bus system for a place that is clearly affluent. Sonoma County Transit and Santa Rosa CityBus share the task of delivering that network. From the former's fleet, bus 226 - a CNG-fuelled ElDorado National Axcess BRT model - is seen here arriving at the downtown transit mall. The small sticker behind the nearside rear wheel demonstrates that is operated under contract by Transdev.

Looking better than I has for a long time as it sits waiting to do a quick run down to Broxburn on the 20.

One of a batch, 562 - 567 (T562 BSS - T567 BSS), that entered service with First Aberdeen in July 1999. Some later transferred to "First Edinburgh/First Midland Bluebird". In 2001 all passed to First Manchester becoming 172 - 177 there (later becoming 60216 - 60221).

T563 BSS is currently (July 2016) in service with Harrogate Coach Travel (Connexions buses), having been acquired from First West Yorkshire earlier in the year.

In September and October 1995, 14 new Scania/Wright Axcess Ultralows replaced the older Rider York vehicles which had been allocated to Park and Ride service operation in November 1994 and Summer 1995. This October 1995 picture shows one of the 47 seat Scania L113CRLs on York's Station Road working on the Askham Bar service. In all respects, these buses were a world apart from the former National Bus Company subsidiary Leyland Leopard coaches, which had maintained the service during its first five years, and represented York City Council's strategy of continuous improvement, to achieve and maintain the attractiveness of the service to potential users.

S574TPW is a Wright Axcess Floline bodied Scania L94UB.

New to First Eastern Counties as their 574 in 1999, it spent time at Ipswich, Norwich, Kings Lynn, Norwich again, Northampton and finally Colchester before leaving First in 2015. It then operated for ConnexionsBuses until 2017, when it was bought for preservation. It made its first preservation debut in 2019 still wearing Connexions livery.

This is I believe one of the first batches of L94's, succeeding from the visually similar R---DVF batch of Scania L113CRL Wright Axcess Ultralows.

At least two of these Flolines are currently in preservation, another being T825SFS, preserved immaculately in First's "Barbie" livery. Several others are still used for schools and Driver Training duties.

It is seen here at a photostop in Yaxley while working route 320 at Fenland Busfest 2021. It was an absolutely stellar vehicle to ride.

former Firstgroup First Leeds / West Yorkshire 61066, Scania L113CRL Wright Axcess Ultralow R452 JSG was new to Yorkshire Rider as 8452.
