White football officials knickers should come down over the top of the stirrup sock so equal amounts of black show above and below the white stripes. Classic Spot*Bilt football officials turn shoes are worn. A black leather belt is worn around the waist along with a yellow penalty flag. A black hat with white pinstriping was worn. A white crew neck shirt would be worn under the wide striped shirt. This authentic NFL official's shirt is a Side Judge number 12. These shirts were usually produced by Cosby.

Painting and markings:
The paint scheme for this Super Valkyrie was settled upon before I considered the S-FAST Pack addition: U.N. Spacy’s SVF-124 is authentic, as well as its unique camouflage paint scheme.
The latter is a special scheme for the lunar environment where the unit was originally formed and based, with all-black undersides, a high, wavy waterline and a light grey upper surface, plus some medium grey trim and a few colorful US Navy style markings and codes.
My core reference is a ‘naked’ bread-and-butter VF-1A of SVF-124 in Fighter mode, depicted as a profile in a VF-1 source book from SoftBank Publishing. The colors for the FAST Pack elements are guesstimates and personal interpretations, though, since I could not find any reference for their look in this unit.
As a side note, another, later SVF-124 aircraft in a similar design is included as an option in a limited edition 1:72 VF-22S kit from Hasegawa, which is backed by CG pics in a VF-22 source book from Softbank, too.
Furthermore, SVF-124 finds mention in a Japanese modeler magazine, where the aforementioned VF-22S kit was presented in 2008. So there must be something behind the ‘Moon Shooters’ squadron.
According to the Hasegawa VF-22S’s painting instructions, the underside becomes black and the upper surfaces are to be painted with FS36270 (with some darker fields on the VF-22, though, similar to the USAF F-15 counter-shaded air superiority scheme, just a tad darker).
Due to the 1:100 scale tininess of my VF-1, I alternatively went for Revell 75 (RAL 7039), which is lighter and also has a brownish hue, so that the resulting aircraft would not look too cold and murky, and not resemble an USAF aircraft.
All FAST Pack elements were painted in a uniform dark grey (Humbrol 32), while some subtle decorative trim on the upper surfaces, e.g. the canopy frame, an anti-glare panel and a stripe behind the cockpit and decoration trim on the wings’ upper surfaces, was added with Revell 77 (RAL 7012). Overall, colors are rather dull, but IMHO very effective in the “landscape” this machine is supposed to operate, and the few colorful markings stand out even more!
The cockpit interior was painted in a bluish grey, with reddish brown seat cushions (late 70ies style!), and the landing gear became all white. For some added detail I painted the wings’ leading edges in a mustard tone (Humbrol 225, Mid Stone).
The kit received some weathering (black ink wash, drybrushing on panels) and extra treatment of the panel lines – even though the FAST Pack elements hide a lot of surface or obscure view.
More color and individuality came with the markings. The standard decals like stencils or the U.N. Spacy insignia come from the kit’s and some other VF-1s’ OOB sheets.
Based on the SVF-124 VF-1 profile and taking the basic design a bit further, I used dull red USAF 45° digits for the 2nd flight leader’s “200” modex and the Apollo Base’s code “MA” on the dorsal boosters. Some discreet red trim was also applied to the FAST Packs – but only a little.
Since all of SVF-124’s aircraft are rumored to carry personal markings, including nose art and similar decorations, I tried to give this VF-1JS a personal note: the pin-up badges on the dorsal boosters come from a Peddinghouse decal sheet for Allied WWII tanks, placed on a silver roundel base. Unfortunately (and not visible before I applied them) the pin-up decal was not printed on a white basis, so that the contrast on the silver is not very strong, but I left it that way. Additionally, the tagline “You’re a$$ next, Jerry” (which IS printed in opaque white…?) was added next to the artwork – but it’s so tiny that you have to get really close to decipher it at all…
Finally, after some soot stains around the exhausts and some vernier nozzels with graphite, the kit received a coat of matt acrylic varnish.
Building this vintage VF-1 kit took a while and a lot of effort, but I like the result: with the S-FAST Pack, the elegant VF-1 turned into a massive space fighter hulk! The normal Super Valkyries already look very compact and purposeful, but this here is truly menacing. Especially when standing on its own feet/landing gear, with its nose-down stance and the small, original wheels, this thing reminds of a Space Shuttle that had just landed.
Good that I recently built a simple VF-1 fighter as a warm-up session. ARII’s kit #70 is not a pleasant build, rather a fight with the elements and coupled with a lot of compromises – if you want a Super Valkyrie Fighter in 1:100, the much more modern WAVE kit is IMHO the better option (and actually not much more pricey than this vintage collector’s item). But for the vintage feeling, this exotic model kit was just the right ticket, and it turned, despite many weaknesses and rather corny details, into an impressive fighter. Esp. the lunar camouflage scheme looks odd, but very unique and purposeful.

Agrotourism Kalpic is located in a rural area near the Krka National Park (home to some amazing waterfalls), and is only 10 miles from the city of Šibenik.
It consists of 3 traditional Croatian stone cottages, a larger stone house and an authentic Dalmatian tavern.
Each room has a different character and is decorated in an authentic style, with everything you need for a very comfortable stay.
In the traditional Dalmatian tavern, the friendly, welcoming hosts serve a wide range of home-made wines and liquors, such as the Rakija (a very nice walnut brandy), alongside delicious traditional home-cooked Dalmatian meals (mostly prepared using ingredients grown or produced on-site, including their own prize-winning Pršut (smoked ham)).

Weather it's old murals, old signs, historic brick buildings, or a taste of the old west you are looking for you will find it in Livingston Montana. The feeling of this town is like none other--very historic and unique! Unfortunately (here is the down side to the town) the celebrities and the rich have moved in on the entire area driving up housing and land prices and main street is slowly transforming into a place it has never been--every other store is now an art gallery. There are many sporting goods stores. Gone are many of the original businesses. Most of the restaurants are serving ridiculously over priced fancy food that would never be what you would authentically find in Montana. Livingston is transforming from an amazing old west mountain town to a celebrity filled typical tourist getaway.
HOWEVER this town is really still worth a visit! The feeling of the town is still quite nice and authentic (although that is changing fast). The surrounding landscape is incredibly beautiful, plus, when you turn off the interstate at Livingston you can take highway 89 all the way down to Gardiner--the gate way to Yellowstone!
The history of Livingston is really worth a read:
"Livingston evolved from a trading post on the Yellowstone River called Benson’s Landing which was approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) downstream from present day Livingston. In July 1882 when Northern Pacific Railway contractors arrived the trading post was renamed ‘’Clark City’’ for contractor Heman Clark. The railroad officially reached Clark City on November 22, 1882. At that time, the community moved to its present location upstream from the trading post and was renamed Livingston in honor of a Northern Pacific Railway stockholder and director, Johnston Livingston (1875–81 and 1884–87)[2]. Livingston became the original gateway to Yellowstone National Park, which the NPR began promoting heavily to visitors from the East, by way of a branch running some sixty miles south to first the Cinnabar station and later Gardiner. Livingston was also headquarters for the NPR's Central Division and a good location for railroad shops to service NPR steam trains before their ascent over the Bozeman Pass, the highest point on the line 5,702 feet (1,738 m)[3].
Livingston is situated on the Yellowstone River where it bends from north to east toward Billings, and in proximity to Interstate 90. In 1806 Captain William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition camped on the city's present outskirts on the return trip east, following the descending Yellowstone River. Clark's party rejoined the Lewis party at the confluence with the Missouri River, near Williston, North Dakota.
Though a small city, Livingston is home to a number of popular tourist points. The Livingston Depot, built in 1902 after two predecessors, is a restored rail station that today houses a railroad museum from approximately May through September. The Yellowstone Gateway Museum documents regional history from one of the oldest North American archaeological sites to Wild Western and Yellowstone history. The International Fly Fishing Federation's museum is an extensive introduction to a popular game sport and hosts annual enthusiasts meetings. The city was inhabited for two decades by Calamity Jane and visited by adventurous traveling members of European royalty. Today it is a small art haven, filming location (A River Runs Through It, The Horse Whisperer, Rancho Deluxe, and others), fishing destination, railroad town, and writers' and actors' colony. In 1938, Dan Bailey, an eastern fly-fisherman, established his Dan Bailey's Fly Shop and mail order fly tying business on Park Street where it still resides today[4]. Livingston is also the home of the Fly Fishing Discovery Center, a museum operated by the Federation of Fly Fishers[5]. Actors Peter Fonda, Margot Kidder, as well as Saturday Night Live alumnus Rich Hall, musician Ron Strykert, novelist Walter Kirn, and poet Jim Harrison live in the city. Jimmy Buffett mentions Livingston in multiple songs.
Its economy is booming, the unemployment rate is well below the national and state average. A small proportion of its workforce commutes to Bozeman, the destination resort Chico Hot Springs some twenty-five miles south, and various campsites and ranches in the high-value area of Paradise Valley. Recently, the city has invested much time and money into creating attractions and accommodations for tourists visiting during the Lewis and Clark bicentennial years. It has a sister-city relationship with Naganohara, Japan."- Wikipedia

Giraffes
Type of Object: Carved giraffe
Ethnic Group: Shona
Country of Origin: Zimbabwe
Materials: Wood
Approximate Age: Contemporary
Dimensions: 22.5 inches height x 3.25 inches depth
Overall Condition: poor. Most of our pieces have spent decades on at least two continents, and have been treasured by several owners. Small splits, scrapes and cracks are a normal part of their patina attesting to their age and extensive use. We examine each piece carefully when we receive it and report any damage we find in our listings. Please look carefully at the pictures which may also reveal condition and damage.
Damage, Repair: eye and ear cracked on side of face (see pictures below)
Additional Information: Mukwa or Mukungu wood. I spent many hours in South Africa in July, looked at hundreds of giraffes, and carefully chose the best. Zimbabwe's horrific social and economic woes have reduced tourism to a trickle, and so many sculptors are making their way with their giraffes to South Africa. I can only get them when they're being sent home in a container--otherwise air shipping is prohibitive. Zimbabwe giraffes are, in my opinion, vastly superior to those being carved in Kenya. Zimbabwe is home to Shona sculptors, and the best of the giraffes, carved by both Shona and Ndebele, are by turns regal, humerous, and majestic. Each has a different expression. You have probably been reading about Zimbabwe's agony. More than half of the population will starve without international aid, and the carvers are no exception.

This section discusses what is meant by an 'original' or 'authentic' Barcelona chair. As will become clear this area is quite murky and we hope this section ensures you make an informed choice when purchasing a barcelona chair, whether it's a Knoll or a reproduction chair.
Knoll are the licensed manufacturer of the Barcelona chair
There are many manufacturers throughout the world making the Barcelona chair. Knoll are the only company however who can call their chair the "Mies Van Der Rohe Barcelona chair". Knoll licensed the design directly from Mies Van Der Rohe in the 1950's.
In 2004 Knoll obtained formal registered trademark status for several of Mies van der Rohe's furniture designs. Knoll continues to pay royalties on these sales to the Museum of Modern Art - who today own many of the design rights.
Legally, Knoll can sue anyone who uses the term "Barcelona chair". The legal precedent was set in 1998 in the case Herman Milller Vs Palizetti case of 1998. In this case the judges refused to hear evidence in defense of trade dress rights due to there simply being too many chairs in this style in the market. It would not have been feasible to find, much less sue, these numerous manufacturers.
How does the Knoll Barcelona chair differ from the Iconic Interiors' chair
The Knoll Barcelona chair (cost range £2,500 upto £4500) comes with an 'authenticity' certificate. The chair is stamped with Mies' signature on the underside of the chair frame (a relatively recent addition). The Knoll chair is made to an excellent standard and buying from Knoll assures a consistency of quality and accountability. This is not to say however this quality is not achievable by generic/unlicensed manufacturers.
Bear in mind the quality of the Knoll chair is nothing like the 'original' produced by Mies and Lilly for the Barcelona fair - most changes were made for the better, but does this make it inauthentic?
The Barcelona chair has gone through many changes over the years
Many of the materials used in the early models have fallen by the wayside. This is largely because the chair was not originally made for the mass market. For example the pig skin leather and feather filled cushions were not fit for large scale production.
Which Barcelona chair is best?
Buying vintage furniture is one of the smartest options for buying good quality furniture for less. It is also great for when you want to furnish your home in a style that is completely your own. If that is not enough, give yourself extra "friend of the environment" points, as bringing vintage furniture and home furnishings into your home is one of the most earth-friendly acts you can perform.
Buying vintage furniture is a little different from your usual garage sale or thrift store shopping, because you are not looking for just any used furniture, but furniture from a specific era.
How to Buy Vintage Furniture? How do you determine it is a good piece and well worth its price? Or how do you even find a piece?
1. Find Good Sources and Pay Frequent Visits
Explore different vintage furniture stores in your area. If you live in an area with newer housing, you may want to explore an area that has older homes. Flea markets, auctions, and estate sales may also yield fantastic finds.
Once you have located some good resources, it helps to go there often. Make friends with salespeople or vendors, as they can provide you with plenty of information or let you know when something you need is available.
Frequent visits also pay off as sometimes vintage stores may even offer markdowns after a piece has been sitting on the floor for a certain period of time. Here is where a relationship with the staff can really pay off, as you may get the news earlier than others.
2. Look for Gently Used
Gently used furniture is always preferable to furniture that has been trashed, vintage or not. The reasons are obvious. Sometimes vintage furniture items sold on consignment are in a better shape, so make sure to look for those.
Generally case goods such as dining room furniture, cabinets and chests hold up better than upholstered furniture. However, if you are shopping for upholstered furniture, it makes sense to look for gently used furniture. It is not very cost effective to refurbish upholstered furniture generally, and not something that most relish doing on their own.
3. Find Furniture with Good Bones
Look for furniture with good bones. For instance, drawers should slide out easily and upholstered pieces should have good sturdy frames. For instance, The Divine Chair uses antique frames refurbished with new upholstery. But again this is not a task that can be undertaken lightly. If you find plastic furniture, it should not be on the verge of cracking.
4. Look for Less Well Known Brands
While it would be great to find familiar brand names, don’t confine yourself to well known brands only. You can look for other manufacturers, too, and they may be less expensive but just as good. Just remember to look for furniture that is well made.
5. Look for Quality
Just because it is old furniture doesn’t mean that the quality is great. Avoid furniture made with inferior materials and with poor workmanship. Every era has its share of well made or poorly made furniture. Vintage furniture is no exception.
6. Don't Let Scratches Scare You
While it is important to look for gently used furniture, surface scratches can be fixed. Don't let minor scratches scare you. There are many products on the market that can help you with those, and if a truly remarkable piece warrants it, you can get it professionally refinished.
7. Use Defects to Bargain
Use those scary scratches to your advantage by bargaining. We all know that getting a good piece is only half the battle, so also look for a good price. Examine carefully for damage or alterations. If the piece is worth buying, use any evidence of damage to bargain for a better price. But before you do that, make sure that the piece can be fixed and that the price of repairs on your vintage item does not drive the entire cost too high.
8. Make Sure it Fits
You are not buying your vintage furniture to store it away somewhere. So consider size, especially if you are buying the furniture for your own home. Furniture can always look too big or too small in a store. Take your space measurements with you so that you buy something that can fit into your home and is scaled right.
9. Re-purpose for Style
See if you can repurpose the furniture, for example, use a small table for a nightstand. Unusual furniture in unexpected places will give your place its own distinct style.
10. Look for Individual Pieces That Go Together
Buying whole sets of vintage furniture might be expensive. If your budget is hindering you, try purchasing individual pieces that would work well together one at a time. Incidentally, buying individual pieces that look good together is also the best way to buy good quality new furniture. It is also the best way to express your own unique style.

New pics from an old kit.
After a longer break from the subject, this is another Dorvack OAV kit, re-issued in 2007 by Aoshima. These Powered Armor kits seem to be an infinite source for creative variations, and this one here is no exception - even though I will admit that it was just a stopgap to keep myself busy while waiting for ordered parts for a German model kit contest.
But back to the kit again: This PA-36N Nove Commander Powered Armor suit is authentic, but not available as an Aoshima model kit. It is, as far as I know, an original OAV design and livery, and the personal PA of one of the series' main characters: Masato Mugen. This PA-36 is rumored to appear in the late TV series, but I cannot confirm it. Anyway, this specific PA-36 is also available as a die cast toy in 1:24 scale (as well as a red/white livery version), and pictures of this toy and its box were the basis for this kit.
The Aoshima kit was built almost right out of the box. The kit is easy to assemble, but (still) bears some flaws that were designed by Gunze Sangyo into it 25 years ago. Its main problem zone are the legs, which make assembly and painting very difficult - they are not modular, like modern kits, but have to be built step by step until you have the complete leg. While the parts are molded very well, making them fit needs some putty and creativity.
Based on the die-cast kit, they only changes were the addition of a second R2 hand laser (leftover from another kit) which was "mirrored" to fit onto the right lower arm. This double weapon feature is a common choice in the OAV, but no standard option in the PA-36 kits. Looks mean, though.
Another added authentic detail is the radar/radio dish on top of the PA, which seems to be a commander PA's detail. The dish is also an original Dorvack kit part, it comes from the PA-58 "Halk" kit. The only thing which is hard to define is the piece's exact location on top of the PA-36's hull: the die-cast kit box shows it in a very rearward position, but on the kit there is actually no space in this area to fit the dish console. The place where it ended up in my approach is plausible but can not be correct, because the dish is now located exactly on top of the gap between the hull's front and rear half section, which splits up so that the pilot can enter it... well, another puzzling anime technology feature ;)
Other enhancements include opened air intakes for the jet pack on both shoulders (instead of just painting them black), a fine grate which covers the ugly jet exhaust at the PA's back, a modified air hose on the right shoulder (I just used the original part's front and and piece and replaced the molded hoses with flexible cables), an antenna on the left shoulder and transparent lenses in the lasers' nozzles - these are clear LED tops, painted in neon pink from the back side and glued into place.
Additionally, the lasers' triple power supply cables were added. Since reference pictures and sketches indicate that these flexible cables actually lead into the air intake on the shoulders (they are pretty small, though...), I decided to add extra attachment hatches on both weapons and the PA's hull, cut from polystyrene profiles.
For painting, the choice of colors was tricky, since I only had digital pictures of the die-cast kit and its box art, with dubious light and quality. Anyway, these references indicate a basically dark blue and white livery, with upper arms and legs in silver/blank metal.
I made some color combination experiments and finally ended up with rather murky tones, because I wanted to avoid a bright, toy-like look. Consequently, the blue is of a very dark tone. The basic color is called "Oxford Blue" (Humbrol 104), but on top of that I added a cloudy coat of dry-painted "Blue" (Humbrol 25), which is a very strong and deep blue tone, almost like ultramarine. The result is a worn look, as if the brighter blue had been the PA's original color but suffered well from heavy duty - a trick which works great on tanks.
The white for the "helmet" section became a very light grey ("Lichtgrau RAL 7035", Humbrol 196, respectively), since pure white would look much too bright on the kit and not allow any further highlights with color tricks. Anyway, after the basic color was laid out, I also added here a dry-painted coat of a very light mix of Lichtgrau and White (Humbrol 34), just to keep up the "cloudy" look of the blue areas.
The blank metal parts on arms and legs as well as on the main hull were painted in three tones: basic color is "Aluminium" (Humbrol 56), but to add some visual appeal the parts were trimmed with "Gun Metal" (Humbrol 53), which is slightly darker. The round joints on arms and legs were painted with "Chrome Silver" (Humbrol 191), which is brighter than the greyish Aluminium tone.
The thin yelllow stripe on the lower legs is actually a beige tone ("Light Buff", Humbrol 7), which was also used for some other small markings all over the kit. As en experiment, the visor was laid out with a piece of thin purple/deep pink metal foil instead of silver plus a coat of translucent paint.
After a wash with black ink and some dry painting with shades of the basic colors the decals were applied. These are original and come from various other PA kits, and in contrast to the Gunze Sangyo decals of former times the new Aoshima material can actually be used! Only problem (on any PA) is the spheric surface on the knees, where the plain decals can hardly be applied at all. Here, decal softener and delicate knife cuts helped - but you can still recognize folds... :(
Finally, the whole kit received a matte finish - except for the joints and the upper arms and legs, which were coated with semi-matte varnish to enhance the metallic look. As a last step, Mugen Masato's PA was carefully weathered with silver and grinded soft pencil mine, and it also received some dirt and dust weathering with acryllic paint in sienna brown, black and ochre.
Since I had all parts and paint at hand, the building time of this kit was about 3 days. Voilà, and there are still (a lot!) more Dorvack PA's to come!
The village of Haworth in the heart of West Yorkshire's Bronte Country is famous (amongst other things) for hosting a very special 1940s weekend.
The event usually involves locals and visitors alike getting togged up in 1940s gear to enjoy a wide range of nostalgic events, which often include a RAF vintage plane flypast, as well as spivs peddling their wares and authentic swing jive and Lindy Hop dancing being performed both in the streets during the day and at specially arranged dances which are held at local dance halls and pubs in the evenings.
Haworth village is situated at the edge of the Pennine moors in West Yorkshire, England, the area made famous by the Bronte sisters, known as Bronte country. Haworth is first mentioned as a settlement in 1209. The name may refer to a hedged enclosure or hawthorn enclosure. The name was recorded as Howorth on a 1771 map.

After tasting several otome manjuu on the island, we finally saw this authentic shop on the hilltop.
Naturally, we ordered a portion of otome manjuu and it's actually the best tasting of all!
Then only we notice the photos and certificates hang over the place, we have found the pioneer of the famous otome manjuu!
Otome Manjuu (女夫饅頭) is on my must try list prior to visiting Enoshima.
The origin of the Otome Manjuu is said to be:
"Female husband bun " derives its name from a stone called the "Spouses Stone" at the Hachiman Shrine located at nearby city of Kamakura.
The stone symbolizes Minamoto no Yoshitsune ( late Heian era generals ), and Shizuka Gozen. A famous loving couple. Hence the buns are sold in pairs.
The sweet bean paste filling and supple steamed coating is a traditional flavor that can take a bit of getting used to for some foreign pallets. The bean paste flavor is considered sweet like a dessert, but the mild sweetness is refreshing as an appetizer before moving on to more confectionery treats.
Each manjuu is 120 yen ( approx. US$1.00 ), making it both affordable and delicious. It often comes in a set of two - the white one being the "wife manjuu" - its dough is mixed with a tint of japanese wine; while the brown manjuu symbolizes the husband - its dough gets its color from brown sugar. Both have the same red bean paste filling.

An oddity I found in a pair of Gap jeans I recently purchased. Maybe the guy who put the label in the jeans is a fan of Cameron's? See cameronmoll.com to see what I mean.
