You don't see many of these around nowadays. These swan-neck lamp brackets, made by the Brighton-based Bleeco company, were used in large numbers from the 20s to the 50s to convert gaslights to electricity. Unsurprisingly this example survives in a remote place and on private property, within the precincts of a church at Glenfinnan, Inverness-shire. The modern long-life "bulb" looks incongruous, but it tells us that this is a working lamp, continuing to function with currently available accessories, not a prettyfied, self-conscious bit of "heritage" street furniture.

The raw eggplant fruit can have a somewhat bitter taste, but becomes tender when cooked and develops a rich, complex flavor. Traditionally, recipes would advise the salting, rinsing and draining of the sliced fruit (known as "degorging") to soften it and to reduce the amount of fat absorbed during cooking, but mainly to remove the bitterness of the earlier cultivars. Some modern varieties - including those large, purple varieties commonly imported into western Europe - do not need this treatment. The fruit is capable of absorbing large amounts of cooking fats and sauces, allowing for very rich dishes, but the salting process will reduce the amount of oil absorbed. The fruit flesh is smooth; as in the related tomato, the numerous seeds are soft and edible along with the rest of the fruit. The thin skin is also edible, so peeling is not required.

The plant is used in cuisines from Japan to Spain. It is often stewed, as in the French ratatouille, or deep fried as in the Italian parmigiana di melanzane, the Turkish karnıyarık or Turkish and Greek musakka/moussaka, and Middle-Eastern and South Asian dishes. Eggplants can also be battered before deep-frying and served with a sauce made of tahini and tamarind. In Iranian cuisine, it can be blended with whey as kashk e-bademjan, tomatoes as mirza ghasemi or made into stew as khoresh-e-bademjan. It can be sliced and deep-fried, then served with plain yogurt, (optionally) topped with a tomato and garlic sauce, such as in the Turkish dish patlıcan kızartması (meaning: fried aubergines) or without yogurt as in patlıcan şakşuka. However, arguably the most famous Turkish eggplant dish duo is İmam bayıldı (vegetarian) and Karnıyarık (with minced meat). - Excerpt from Wikipedia

Since I started re-reading Dave's hardcopy of the ClueTrain Manifesto I have become even more cynical about the falseness and stupidity of MASS production and marketing.

Either the woman in this picture is happy and perfect because someone else took the bite out of her chocolate, or it includes some amazing chemical that will give you perfect teeth and no discoloration on eating!!

How stupid am I supposed to be?

I worked out several years ago that I do not like being managed (as if I were a mindless, replaceable unit of production).

Im starting to resent the bullshit that marketers throw in my face all day long.

This is the real thing - super cool and totally authentic! Premium High Quality Weight And Feel We have been searching for Aviator mirror glasses with REAL GLASS lenses for years and we have secured a limited supply of these totally authentic 70s Style sunglasses. The silver mirror lens has exactly the same degree of high reflectivity seen in the original 70s mirror Aviators - total sun protection for your eyes - to be used on the brightest of sunny days . . and nobody can see which way you are looking! The Classic original Aviators were first introduced by Ray Ban, originally for use by pilots but since then they have undergone many design modifications and by the 1970s the Aviator had evolved into something new, the classic shape and mirror lens was the iconic 70s style.

The style has been popular since the 1960s, but became even more so in the 1980s following pop culture icon Michael Jackson, and later use by celebrities in films like Top Gun, where Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise sported them. Sylvester Stallone wears this brand of sunglasses in his 1986 action film Cobra.

Being true to one's vision, while planting roots in a cautionary world.

The Korean name of this Deep Fried Meat With Sauce is Tang-soo-yook (탕수육) which is Korean style Chinese food. You can find this food in the Chinese restaurants in Korea. (This is not authentic Chinese food. *^^*) The fried meat tastes really great with the sweet and sour sauce. The onions, carrots, and cucumbers gives this sauce a wonderful combination of different flavors for the meat.

Fireplace mantel made from an authentic beech beam recovered from a barn in Western NY. The wood was cut 100-150 years ago and the trees could have been 200-300 years old. They were saplings somewhere from the late 1600s, early 1700s. The wood is dense and the rings are very tight. When I hold wood I can feel the time and history encapsulated in it. Old wood is not junk wood at all. It has an aura about it. I commune with wood...not is some silly supernatural way...but in the knowledge that it was part of the last wild landscapes of America. It clearly has no memory in the sense that we humans do, but via our knowledge of plants and history we can realize the long spans (relative to human lifespans) of time these trees occupy. Furthermore these trees yielded far superior wood. These trees grew under heavy selection pressures and were strengthened by many long winters, many "once in a century" storms, droughts, floods, the digging, nibbling and pecking of animals, and the effects of humans.

Aesthetically speaking this beam ended up with a blonder color than beech usually does. Normally old beech is browner. This particular beam was whitewashed with a lime-based paint which seems to have bleached the surface to give this pretty blonde color. Wherever there was no whitewash the "normal" brown color spilled through. The wood we use, being real barn wood from actual old barns, has unique, non fakable qualities. Each piece has its own personality, dut to its age, its cut, its use, sun and weather exposure, etc... Only when you finish it (cleaning, light sanding, polyurethane) does its unique characteristics really come out. I'm happy with this piece and more importantly its owners love it.

Understanding that how you live is leveraged by the self storytelling of your life. An that how you tell the story of your future depends on how you listen to the story of your past.

“The story of your life is not your life, is your story”

John Bart

I see self-awareness as a mindful exercise of listening to your own stories. A pause from the velocity of life to listen to yourself when you are alone and to listen to what you share. It is an active meditation. I believe sharing your stories is essential to self-awareness because it is the channel of building relationships, it shows your vulnerabilities and gives trust. It is a way of letting go of your ego, a place to accept your insecurities and let go of your fear. This is a way to open your self to see how others see you. Your stories involve so many actors and when you open a space to share the same story from the eyes of different characters you can start to unveil how your contributions made part of the story of others.

To become most self-aware you have to be in an open dialogue of who you are grounding your self in your values, beliefs and convictions; and building your drives and motivations to constantly discover your potencial.

“Discovering your authentic leadership requires a commitment to developing yourself. Like musicians and athletes, you must devote yourself to a lifetime of realizing your potential.”

Discovering Your Authentic Leadership (George, Sims, McLean and Mayer, 2011)
