Some of the topics include, getting started, networking, marketing, poultry processing, breeding, husbandry, scything, rotational grazing and pasture management, tractor selections, milking and oxen, and electric fence building.
In 2014, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the availability of more than $9 million in outreach and technical assistance for minority farmers and ranchers and military veterans that are new to farming and ranching. The funding, provided through the Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers and Veteran Farmers and Ranchers Program, also known as the 2501 Program, will enable community-based organizations and other partners to work directly with these groups to successfully acquire, own and operate farms and ranches and equitably participate in all USDA programs. The 2014 Farm Bill reauthorized the program and expanded targeted communities.

The huge cargo aircraft was one of five civilian Antonov airlifts contracted to deliver the DART equipment and supplies from CFB Trenton, Ont., to the region.
The 200-member DART is deployed as part of Operation PLATEAU, the CF contribution to earthquake relief efforts in the Pakistan-controlled region of Kashmir - where a 7.6 magnitude quake that struck Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan on October 8, 2005 did the most damage.
The DART is providing primary medical care, temporary shelter, production of safe drinking water, and a limited specialist engineer capability prior to the onset of winter in the region. The DART is co-coordinating its efforts with the government of Pakistan and the other aid agencies involved in the relief effort.

The story of a Christian mother who lost nearly everything in the Iraq war:
For Jowaneh Benjamin, the Iraq war would cost her everything. Driving home from work one evening, Jowaneh’s daughters Ebtisam and Enas’ vehicle was ambushed by Muslim militants. The young women were targeted because of their Christian faith. One was yanked onto the street and shot eleven times. The other was murdered in the backseat.
The grief was unbearable for Jowaneh. “I wish I had died and not my daughters… It should have been me… It should have been me...” Jowaneh’s husband died a few days later from a broken heart over his daughters’ deaths.
Jowaneh soon decided it was no longer safe to live in Iraq. She took her remaining daughter Mariam and fled to a refugee camp in Syria. After two long years, Jowaneh was finally granted immigration to the United States. Through ICC support, Jowaneh and Mariam have been able to settle into a home in Chicago.

Medical assistance is one of the biggest issues in Abkhazia. Rural clinics suffer from a lack of equipment and qualified staff, and people have limited access to information and services.
UNDP helped refurbish and equip maternity wards in Gali and Gagra hospitals and set up mobile labs that can go wherever they're most needed to provide testing for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and other transmitted diseases. More than 4,200 people all over Abkhazia have used these services throughout the year.
Read more about UNDP's work to provide better infrastructure, medical assistance and education to people in Abkhazia.
