Workers at the Alta Gracia factory, set up as a "fair wage" factory recently by Knights Apparel, which is one of the largest suppliers of t-shirts and sweatshirts to colleges in the US. This factory is paying workers a living wage, about 3.5 times more than they are paid in other factories clothing factories in the DR.
The clothes are sold at a slightly higher price with tags explaining to customers that Alta Gracia (also the name of the clothing line) pays the workers more.

Active Assignment Weekly: Minimalism/K.I.S.S
K. I. S. S. or Keep It Simple Stupid is a phrase adopted by 12 step groups to remind themselves to keep it simple. I've adopted it for use in my own life sometimes to remind me when things get complex and out of whack to focus on whats important and leave the rest alone. For this weeks assignment, I want you to do exactly that. Choose your subject, isolate it using selective focus, colour, composition or whatever means appeals to you while keeping to the objective of minimalism.
DARE: Try to find an existing minimalism composition outdoors to photograph.
WiT: I was in Oceanside, CA while on a business trip to the San Diego area this week. I took up the Dare this week... I found this tall palm apart from many of the others. I thought it against the bright blue sky fit the assignment really well
I live in a logging community, an old Mill town - Wood is everywhere, in every form. Being a tree hugger, I wanted to use this assignment to showcase the timeless beauty of wood.
I chose this; An old rocking horse that I bought at an Auction years ago.

DPS assignment, "What's in your bag?". I don't have a camera bag, but like many moms, I have the combination diaper-camera-and-purse bag. This includes camera, wallet, phone, gum, chapstick, keys, diapers, toy, juice cup and old dry nasty french fry.

Assignment: Viaduct
Dare: find a point of view that few others have found.
WIT: I was in Queens, NY on Mother's Day. I was right near the Whitestone Bridge, which connects the Bronx to Queens. So being that I had some time to kill I was able to capture some images. I used various techniques to achieve the vintage/grungy feel, and added some increased contrast and vignetting in LightRoom.
My tearsheet assignment inspiration pages. My inspiration shot that got me thinking and ultimately made is the lemon picture in the bottom right.

Citrus. The texture of the skin was very inviting for this assignment.
D200, Æ’9, 1/50s, ISO 100, 52mm (Nikon 18-200), tripod, SB-600 flash off camera, RAW, Adobe Photoshop for exposure, levels and conversion.
I waited until golden hour to take this photo because I used the sun as my light source (she was facing the sun). I was actually in the middle of the street in front of my house taking shots for this assignment. The blinds were old ones that we were about to toss so I thought it would be awesome to use them for shadowing. I had three favorites out of the pictures I took; one was joyful and one was expressing sort of an anger. This one was interesting because it can be looked at in different ways. For me, I thought determination.
We had this stupid assignment at a location on campus. I was in a rush to do it this morning before class, so here is the outcome... dreaded. but I love Lauren.
The Picture This! assignment for this week was Christmas Lights at Night. No matter how elaborate the home displays, my favorite has always been the display the city puts up on the Villiage Green at the Gazabo.

My darling 14month-old son in his usual TV-watching position about 6 inches in front of the tube. Lighting from TV screen (in front of him) and a floor lamp (behind him and reflected in the fireplace beyond him). Adjusted levels in PSE to lighten image for Flickr (why does it always look fine on my computer but too dark on Flickr???)
This page is so cool. So many different assignments are interacting to make this what it is. First the circles page, then the showering that made the dye soak throuhg lots of pages. Then the ripping on the left side and finally, the lines that I drew while on a bus.
Very, very interesting and fun results, in my opinion, what this journal is really about.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Jeremy Wall and I seem to have gotten a little stuck on 02 Assignment, the hardest part for me was selecting photographs to post. The photographs I have chosen are a reflection of how I see myself in this world. I find myself distant from this world of mass garbage, ill call it clutter. Right now in my life it is difficult for me to take photos of myself, people, places, and things without there being some sort of unwanted clutter in the background, like a garbage can next to a beautiful tree or a doorknob in the background, this is very frustrating. I am a dreamer and also a doer. In a lot of self portraits I take or when someone else takes a picture of me I always appear mad or upset it is just the way I look, I can’t help it. I am really a nice person and I love helping out other people, it makes me feel good. I love to laugh and if you were to hang out with me I will get you to laugh also, either with me or at me. In this waste land of garbage that seems to engulf everything that is pretty to me, I do my best. I really need to get out of this garbage dump but I am stuck. I adore the beach, but I can’t find anyone that wants to go. The only form of transportation I have is my beach cruiser and public transportation, my beach cruiser is too long for VTA busses. I need to get a tripod, park benches and stacking candles is not working for me. I also have a really hard time with computers, I will admit. I have a lot of love in my soul, nothing will ever ruin that.
