According to the saying, you can't judge a book by its cover, but I must confess that I have on occasion purchased a book solely because I loved how the cover picture looked. I remember, for example, buying "The Time Traveller's Wife" - never having heard of the book or the author - just because I loved the image of the shoes on the cover. I enjoyed the book too, incidentally, so the image worked for me.
WIT: Part of my granddaughters costume and of course her eyeball. Turned to b & w, a few adjustments, and type selection.

Alta Gracia, Dominican Republic
Workers at the Alta Gracia factory, set up as a "fair wage" factory recently by Knights Apparel, which is one of the largest suppliers of t-shirts and sweatshirts to colleges in the US. This factory is paying workers a living wage, about 3.5 times more than they are paid in other factories clothing factories in the DR.
The clothes are sold at a slightly higher price with tags explaining to customers that Alta Gracia (also the name of the clothing line) pays the workers more.

I have intentionally left this large as the marks made by the glue might be seen as a texture. Cut off the text unless you are feeling particulary surreal!
You can only see the dark figure (from the cutout on the previous page) when the light shines through the paper.
This series of photographs explores the artistic relationship between nature and place through my personal experiences. Each image reflects moments from the places I’ve lived and visited, capturing the textures, light, and organic forms that reveal the quiet beauty of the natural world. My work is driven by a deep appreciation for nature’s ability to evoke emotion and reflection. Through these photographs, I aim to invite viewers to slow down and notice the subtle details that often go overlooked, finding beauty in simplicity and connection in the landscapes around us.
While I do not want to flog an idea to death, I was on a "sun in leaves" mission the other day, and wanted to catch these lovely red leaves....so I did! Case closed! (been watching Archie Bunker reruns)

In the first frame, a player stands at the perimeter to get a feel for the game's rhythm and the crowd's energy. Moving closer to the basket in the second frame, he scans the architecture and boundaries to get a true feel of the court. The third frame captures the decisive moment of him stepping into the court, transitioning from a bystander to an active participant. He begins pacing around the court in the fourth frame, finding his spacing and navigating through the other players. In the fifth frame, he finally gains possession, pausing to get a feel of the basketball before making a move. The narrative concludes in the sixth frame with him practicing his shot, fully immersed in the flow of the session.
Kaden got in trouble, so we "sent him to the corner." As you can see, I think he likes it there. No, he isn't peeing. (I hope)

Assignment 52 -- Experiments in aperture settings -- taken at f 4.8
Took several shots with narrow dof:

I would consider myself to be somewhat experienced at photo editing. I used GIMP 2.10.8 to edit this photo. I started off with the photo of my cat with a messy background, normally I would’ve used the fuzzy select tool or the lasso tool to outline the area around the subject, but because both tools were difficult to use around all the fur I searched a guide on how I could select subjects from a background and came across a tutorial for layer masking (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jle81ofRLok). I followed the steps outlined in the tutorial in order to remove the background around my cat while keeping transparency. I made a copy of that colored cat layer and used the contrast and brightness tool, and the color levels/curve setting to make my cat into a black shadow. I put this layer underneath the colored cat layer and applied a gaussian blur to give the cat a very subtle black glow outlining his entire body. Then I made another transparent layer at the bottom and used the gradient cool to add a rainbow gradient over about 2/3rd of the photo and set the opacity to 30%. I originally wanted to have the background be of the Egyptian pyramids, with my cat acting as the Sphinx of Giza, but I had a hard time getting the photo to look exactly how I wanted (I do want to try again another time), so I went with a more abstract approach. I used a photo of a starry sky (www.spacetelescope.org/images/heic0607a/ with credit to ESA/Hubble (M. Kornmesser)) as the background layer underneath all the other layers. The edits I made were to remove the original background, which was awkward and boring, and add a background which would be interesting, but still able to provide a nice contrast to allow the subject to pop out.
