My favorite way to shop: at home, coffee handy, holiday music from the speakers, and no crowds!

Assignment: Signs, signs, and more signs. They're everywhere and most of the time we probably don't even notice them. This week's assignment is to photograph a sign. Try to get an new or interesting angle on the sign.

Dare: Try to find a sign that is worded in a way that is unusual and funny or maybe an altered sign. Here are a couple of Flickr groups devoted to these types of signs...

WIT: A new found mania for clicking and a bit of free time. I snapped this photo as I was taking a stroll back to my car. I was also trying to sneak in a quick cigarette. Anyway, this is what my smelly old cigarette smoke did to the marquee, and I actually like it.

Taken for the Assignment 52 group week 32: Sunburst

This one isn't as "sharp" as the monument one I took, not sure why, but I still like it. I'm guessing that maybe I should have shortened the exposure length. But I just thought of that now :-)

This flag is HUGE! It would likely completely cover a mini van. But in this photo it looks small against all that sky and the big clouds.

I also want to try some night time flares. I tried to get a flare off some police bar lights (traffic stop of someone else), but the full sunlight today was too bright. Now if only that opportunity had presented itself at night! They were on the highway, but I was on a parallel side road where I could safely stop.

Assignment for school was to scare my teacher, so this is what I came up with, thoughts?

Shot for Active Assignment Weekly Feb 6-13 2016: How Low Can you Go?

Pretend you are an ant with a camera. Find that unique point of view and investigate a subject from low angle. Physically altering the position of your camera is a great way to yield amazing results. The lower the camera, the more dramatic the effect, so experiment with your camera's position.

Restriction: Ground Hugger - show the ground, and keep camera within 2 feet of the ground.

Dare: Place the camera down on the ground – remember the lower the camera, the more dramatic the effect.

WIT: There are a pair of ostriches that wander around a large field we sometimes walk through, got this one from ground level. Straightened and adjusted contrast.

Assignment # 2 - 'Correct' exposure

Assignment number 2. Simple huh? Tried three different restaurants, the ones I go to most frequently, guess summer time is busy time, they didn't quite take the time to think about it. So, I ended up doing two new things at the same time (as if one wasn't hard enough). If this is my last upload, please know that the pork filet mignon killed me. It sits on top of a slice of potato, boiled first and then grilled slightly, and it's watched by a dune of peas puree. Chocolate signature indicates the killer.

As for the photo part of this, I had a huge sheet of tracing paper at the back with a 1/4 sb28 with 1/2 cto, and a snooted 580ex II on the potato & meat. A couple of white paper sheets were folded and reflected some light back into the shadow at the front.

All in all, great fun, and, most surprisingly, quite tasty !!

Any comments on either of my skill sets are appreciated :)

Assignment 2 - Abstract

Path to heaven

First, I raided out craft cabinet for white things. By the time I did that, I had a few other things in mind, so I found them and attatched them too.

Active Assignment Weekly, February 14-21: Portraits

Portrait in the loosest sense of the word. Candid or posed, this week's assignment should be a portrait of a child or adult, male or female. Just remember to keep it family friendly.

Restriction: No studio shots. Must be taken outdoors. *amended

Dare: Make it of someone you don't know before you take the shot.

Without my DSLR for a while longer, so here goes...

WIT: Borrowed the P/S while at dinner (didn't do the dare; this is our son), on Program mode because I'm still learning what this camera can do. CS4 conversion to black and white (green filter), curves for getting the semi- 'high key' effect, minor cloning out blemishes, sharpened, resized, added the border.

Open - Closed

Awake - Asleep

Dark Edged - Light Edged

This is my first attempt at trying to do something like this. There is lots of room for improvement and I will try again.

Used my own texture from a tree trunk.

Self Portrait.....LOL..... I should get a better face cream.

The assignment was to capture 4 different subjects from 5 different angles, or points of view.

The top left corner is funky due to it being my first time using an enlarger.

Canon 35mm film camera (Rebel EOS 2000), T-Max 400 film (was supposed to be 100, but that's all I had at the time).

Canon EF 28-80mm @f/16 (probably), and likely at the wide end.

Please, please critique!

DPS Assignment- Graffiti

Wicked Campervans are rented out to visiting tourists, mainly young people. Their vans are always covered in art & not always appropriate art either. They have a bed & sink with a plastic container for water in the back. Not self contained(no loo or holding tanks for grey water) they cause a problem nationwide when the occupants use our wide open & green spaces for their ablutions. One of the main reasons freedom camping has been banned in many districts.

-The Mother looked up at the beautiful strong tree that stood beside her, silhoutted against a crimson sunset.

"oh no"said the mother "you are you, and you are better than I ever dreamed."

"And if I am a Mother too?" said the daughter

"You will always-"

"Yes, I will always, forever and always be your Daughter."

"This is good," said the Mother.

"And your friend," added the Daughter.

"Ah!" said the Mother. "A friend! That's what I have always wanted."

Active Assignment Weekly: 8-15 Jan 2018: Love is in the Air

"This challenge is all about showing the spirit of love that crosses all ages and genders.

Submit photos which demonstrate what love means to you! It can be the love for a Husband/ Wife, Friends, Children, Parents, Family and even Pets."

There is a line in John Paul Young's song .... Love is in the air in the whisper of the tree .... A bit noisy, and I wanted to capture the movement in the tree but there wasn't enough wind.
