Taken for the Assignment 52 group- week 32: Sun burst (sorry- had this mis-labeled)

I always thought this was done with a certain filter. I didn't realize that an aperture priority setting and F-16 setting would accomplish this! Really happy with how this came out!

Active Assignment Weekly : Junk.

There is this great shop that sells all sorts of....well, junk, among other things. This was outside, on top of a large cabinet. Unfortunately my time of day wasn't great, so it was really bright. Boosted saturations and tried to correct levels in PS.

Assignment 52 -- October Colors

The leaves around here have been very slow to turn this fall, & all the leaves in my own trees are still green. I found quite a lot of color at the Arboretum, though. So much that I had a hard time choosing for the assignment. Here's the link to others:

The brief for PwDP Assignment Five is, apparently, oriented towards photojournalism - photograph an event and market the results to relevant publications. This series is my own response. The background is in my blog, here - stansocapwdp.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Assignment Five.

It relates to a major sporting 'event' of the summer - The Ashes Test Series of cricket matches between England & Australia - but also to my research of contemporary still life photography for Assignment Four; questions around the way photographers might respond to image-saturation in the digital/internet world; and maybe questions around the 'truth' of photographic images. The intended outcome is a series of large prints but, hopefully, these digital versions provide some sense of what is intended.

Italian Treasures. Took a photo of a Sardinian beer that we loved when living in Italy, and chose one of the ink drawings we picked up in Rome as the background to the beer. I like the red contrast on the cap.

Active Assignment Weekly: Liquid in Motion

The Assignment:

For those of you who don’t like set-up, this will challenge you a bit, but I promise it’ll be fun and hopefully a good learning experience that will stretch your photography journey. I first learned about the relationship between lighting conditions, flash, aperture, and shutter speed when trying to shoot my son’s baseball games. Those learnings then extended to shooting water movement whether it was a water fight or shooting one of those cool water splash shots.

The Assignment : Shoot a picture that captures liquid of any type frozen in motion. It can be taken indoors or outdoors. The liquid amount can be a drop or a wave-full and the movement can be accompanied by any object or living being. Depending on the speed of your lens (i.e. shutter speed at a given aperture or vice versa) and availability of flash, you may consider taking the shot in outdoor lighting. Using a tripod will help immensely.

Restrictions: None, except no fabrication of liquid movement in post processing.

Dare: If you have not tried a water splash type shot before, I dare you to get that under your belt.

WIT: After reading of the hours you folks had spent on yours, the heckling neighbors, the broken flashes, even the wife driving full speed at the photographer, I decided to play it safe and go with what I knew. So, after assuring that the toilet was exceedingly clean, I flushed. I did use a tripod and shot in shutter priority...both outside of my norm. I also learned how to perform continuous burst shooting and played around with a halogen work light to adjust lighting. Then in PSE, I played with levels (on color...also new to me) and chrome filters, blue filters, and finally, a violet filter. The norm: adjust contrast, sharpness, and saturation. I applaud you splashers! It's been fun to see what you all presented! Maybe next time for me!

In the assignment, "graveyards of ideas" were mentioned. That should give you a clue or three.

Large.
