The ANSWER protest sign drama continues as the anti-war group hides behind the First Amendment in its defacement of Washington DC public property.

Yesterday the Department of Public Works fined the ANSWER coalition $10,000 for posting hundreds of signs to promote a peace march September 15 that were illegally affixed to utility boxes, using glue that was too sticky, exceeded the number of signs allowed per block, and not registering copies with the DPW.

Today ANSWER responded that it would counter-sue, claiming that the DC government fined them in a "politically motivated" bid to silence their efforts against the war in Iraq.

Let me be one of the many to call "bullshit" on ANSWER coalition position. Slapping up ugly-ass posters on every inanimate object in the city, violating very clear anti-graffiti rules that every other protest organization follows, is not Free Speech. Nor would the content be what pisses off the citizens of Washington.

ANSWER forgets that DC is majority Democrat and in general does not condone the idiot in the White House, and is very much against the war in Iraq. More importantly, they forget that they are guests in DC, and defacing our city isn't the way to treat guests.

So I'd like to send ANSWER a message. I'd like you to join me in removing ANSWER signs and sending the detritus to ANSWER's HQ at 1247 E St. SE, Washington, DC 20003. Better yet, give them an earful while you do it on (202) 544-3389.

The Scene

As many of you might already know, military service is compulsary in Singapore. After 2 years of full time national service, all servicemen are required to go back for training for a few days every year for at least 10 years.

I have just completed 18 days of my 3rd In-Camp-Training. While it is always fun to meet old friends after a long time, the sheer waiting for each activity is enough to kill, especially for someone like (who cannot sit still, except in front of Flickr :o)

The Photo

A simple photo taken with the 100mm macro lens and the Sigma flash that i had rented. I also applied a Sepia filter in photoshop to give the warm look...(to relate to the relatively warm-to-wear camouflaged uniform (known commonly as the No.4)...

Special Dedication to Singapore NSMen

I found this song that we servicemen sang when going on our LOOONG route marches, and copied it below. Aah....the memories come flooding back...

Purple light in the valley

That is where i want to be

Infantry, best companion

With my rifle and my buddy and me.

Booking out, See my girlfriend

Saw her with, another man

Heartbroken, back to army

With my rifle and my buddy and me

SOC, sibei jialat!

IPPT, largi worse!

Everyday, doing PT

with my rifle and my buddy and me

ORD, back to study

Got degree, so happy!

Can't forget, days in army

With my rifle and my buddy and me

Purple heart, at the war front

That is where, my buddy died

If i die, would you bury me

With my rifle and my buddy and me!

It is Bone Broth Gelatin which, after the fat globules are removed would definitely get a Paleo tick! - This particular broth from a pair of Lamb necks simmered, whole, for a good 4 hrs. The Lamb Stew was exquisite with lots of vegies added!

"A crowd quickly gathered round to listen to us and ask questions about the threat from these weapons. There was a lot of interest because no one had been given any information up to that point. We used images to show them what dangerous objects such as shells, grenades and ammunition, look like, and what to do if they come across one of these objects.”

This PCB is part of the announcement tape deck. To the right are the record/playback head and erase head for this unit. The pink wire ending in a solder tag connects to an insulated part of one of the tape guides, it is thus grounded by a switching foil on the tape at the appropriate time. The PCB contains the switches used to record new announcements on this tape, a DIN socket for the microphone. FETs to select the opening or closing announcement (just below the switches), a bias/erase oscillator (the 2 metal-can transistors) and the microphone preamplifier

THE YACKA INSTITUTE opened 20 October 1876

It is a very good structure, and erected in a favourable position. The dimensions are 39 x 29 outside, and 14 feet high. The plastering and ceiling have not yet been completed, but it answers a good purpose even in an unfinished state. Mr. J. Paterson, President of the Institute, stated that Mr. G. C. Hawker, M.P., was to have opened the building, but unfortunately he was unable to be present, and therefore the duty devolved on himself. There was, he said, little or no debt on it, for the work had been paid for as it advanced. The total cost so far was £200, and that amount had been raised by subscription, together with the Government grant. It was intended to use the building as a public school, and for any denomination requiring it for divine service on Sundays.

Considerable interest had been taken in the institution, but he would be exceedingly glad if those in the neighbourhood who had not identified themselves with it would become subscribers, as it was only 2s. 6d. per quarter and 2s. 6d. entrance fee. It was generally the custom to build a library first and then build the hall, but they had constructed the reading-room first. They intended, however, to extend the institution as the requirements of the place demanded. He then declared the Institute opened, and three hearty cheers were given.

They were answered, but it required lots of patience on my part. I saw this train on the Parkville webcam during the day while I was working. I was hoping like hell that this train would stay in Murray until I could get out after work. It did, but it was cutting it close with the best light. It certainly would have been better if it was 30 minutes earlier, but it still worked. It was nice to catch a H4 BNSF SD75I leading a 119 car manifest in the West Bottoms of KCMO.

"...whitewash-brush to put it on with. The victim was then asked a question and if he answered it he got a good mouthfull of the mixture. He was then lathered and shaved with a razor made of an old saw blade after which they was thrown back into the tank and the hose played on him. This was finer amusement for the officers, who looked on, laughed at & enjoyed the whole performance. But we (the marines) made up our minds that they would not make laughing stocks of us. After shaving the sailors they waited on the orderly Sergt and asked if we would pay the fine or be shaved when he told them that we had made up our minds that we would do neither. They encouraged by some of the officers said they would shave us. We then rallied between two guns and told them that they should not take one of us, as several of them had clubs one or two of our boys drew their bayonets when but for the interference of the officers there would probably have been some blood spilt. They seeing that they could not take us on deck (although they mustered 200 or over to our 25) thought they would play the hose on us where we were. They then brought it down and when the water was let on they turned it on us thinking no doubt that we would stand and take it but in this they were mistaken for we pitched in and after a little "pushing out from the shoulders" we succeeding in taking the hose away from them..."
