The answer to that question is no, there was no song. He is just stretching his beak. Anyone that is familiar with Cactus Wrens know that when they are singing they barely open their beaks. They have a very unusual and amazing song. To me it is the sound of the desert. I took this photo of a Cactus Wren sitting on a Cholla cactus on the trail leading to Sabino canyon north of Tucson Arizona USA
Thank you, everyone, for the comments and faves to my posting last week of Salthenge. There were many questions from that shot, so I wanted to take time and answer for everyone.
Today's view of Salthenge includes two folding chairs to give it scale.
If you want to leave comments, please add to the other one here flic.kr/p/2kTxRt1
Q: Who created it?
A; Still unknown. I am betting on aliens, and its a secret signal
Q: Where are the footprints?
A: Further proof of aliens......this section of salt is rock hard and not like beach sand. Many areas of the lake has loose / soft salt that is fragile, but this area is sunbaked hard, like concrete.
A bigger problem is tracking dirt/sand on the salt and leaving those dirt footprints (I was extra careful)
Q: Where did the rocks come from?
A: Aliens or an area of rocks about 66 meters / 216 feet away
Q: How large is this?
A: Did my photo today help give it scale? Maybe I should let you know those folding chairs are 12.7cm /5 inches tall :-) No drone involved, just the mini chairs and my Sony a7iii :-)
Q: How long will it last?
A: Humans create things, and just as fast, they destroy things. It becomes much harder to take apart if it lasts a few months as the salt will act like concrete holding them in place.
Q: How big are the rocks?
A: The largest one is maybe 6 inches / 15cm. The entire circle is about 2 meters / 6.5 feet
Q: Roy wants to know why comments are always off
A: Roy, they are only off for you :-) No one else has this problem.

The question of the month is always : will there be leaves on the trees on May 1st or not. Three weeks ago we all thought that the answer was easy and there would be naked trees at the beginning of May. The warm end of April led to an explosion in nature and today we face a green paradise in our fields, gardens.

Glückwunsch Brigitte, du wusstest es.
Ich dachte, dass es so offensichtlich sei, aber so kann man sich täuschen.
I thought that it was obvious what my detail photo showed yesterday but it wasn't. We all see different things and have different associations when we look at things. Thank you for all your comments
Monsoon, a glorious word. It is not an overstatement to say the entire west is on fire this year. It rained today, hard, soaking, drenching rain.. worth dancing in rain.

This was undoubtedly the highlight of my 2019 Michigan trip. This was a lifer for me and my number one warbler goal for this year. What made it more special was it was a female and I got to share my find with a client. The story behind the find was remarkable as well. It certainly was an answer to prayer and also the fruit of persistence in the field.
THE STORY:
The weather was cold and rainy and the conditions had been challenging. Driving slowly along the soggy and somewhat challenging dirt roads with windows down I thought I heard a M0urning Warbler sing. We stopped and listened but he never sang again but we enjoyed a Nashvi11e Warbler before resuming our warbler quest. Soon we encountered a downed tree and had to turn around. We went down a different dirt road and soon again encountered a downed tree. We had no choice but to backtrack completely. As we drove slowly along I heard again what I thought was a M0urning Warbler. We stopped and realized it was the exact same place as before. Again he never sang again. Then I saw a bird foraging low and bins raised I was amazed to see a female Lawrence's Warbler. If not for the two downed trees and the phantom M0urning Warbler we never would have found this bird. May she nest successfully and raise a male Lawrence's and may he return nearby in 2020 to breed!

Sometimes it is good just to stand still and watch without a focuspoint. Just observe it all, listen and feel to our surroundings and to ourselves. What does our presence mean in all this? The answer doesn't have to be spoken in words. Nature doesn't need words.
Sometimes I wish that I knew more. Sometimes there are too many questions. Even worse when there are more than one answer.
Ha! I don't really care all that much. That is how I keep my good looks.

P.S.: Regarding my yesterday's post of roses (below), I am not sure what kind of roses they are!! I thought they looked more like Modern garden, they could be Old fashion roses, but latter has only 5 petals and this one has a lot more!! Will find out the name by June when the roses are in bloom at UN Gardens and will wright the name down.!!!

If only in the globe I could see the answers which I still seek.
Ones that may cause tears of joy or may cause ones of sadness.
Perhaps its best to not look with hope and let things be.

On many a hike I've pondered (yes, aloud) why am I doing this? On most of those occasions there has been a payoff of some sort. Today was something different. When I neared the pinnacle of the trail to Silver Falls and was hit by a sudden chill in the otherwise oppressive heat of the dense forest that I'd been traversing I knew that I'd found the falls that I sought. The moment that I topped the hill into the clearing facing this marvel is difficult to explain. I picked up the camera two years ago and ever since have tried to convey the beauty around me and today I stumbled upon a place of indescribable, soul wrenching, heart surging, peace inspiring beauty like I've never seen. This photo can not convey the sound of the boulders being heaved, the pounding of the flow as it raced by, the sheer knee shaking euphoria that one gets from standing here and witnessing this force of nature. Everyone in the world should stand right here for ten minutes, if they did there would be no more strife.

CSX's First Responders Unit #911 brings a massive M351-27 down the Sugar Creek sag and through the unique B&O signal setup at the north end of Lima yard.
This shot came from the same pier as the previous shot but a few hours earlier. The moment had me thinking of characters in movies who say to "Just sit and the answer will come to you." The question was of course what to photograph when the light was not right for what I wanted. So I sat and at my foot was this outgrowth of something, likely a weed. My mother-in-law used to say, "if it does not belong there it is likely a weed."
The blonde color of the item contrasted with the dark wood. And, it shone brightly as the low rays of the sun painted it on the dark canvas of wood. All I had to do was compose the image and my subject would stand out. So I reversed the leading lines and created a triangle that might lead the viewers eyes back to my little subject. The one that was sitting right beside me when I sat down to find an opportunity. I guess those really are all around us, we just need to take a moment to see them.
Last October I decided to drive South to visit a small lighthouse in Berwick, the first major town as you cross the border from Scotland to England on the East Coast.
It was a cold day, but an open sky and the sun was shining freely everywhere, lighting up the seaside of Berwick beautifully.
As I was approaching the lighthouse I saw an elderly man sitting on a bench on the pier, overlooking the vast stretch of the coast in front of him, he had a very peaceful aura about him, just sitting there, closing his eyes, smiling.
I started to wonder, what could be on his mind just now... Is he thinking of his family, a nostalgic memory, maybe something mundane, or is he perhaps free of all thoughts, and just simply being there in the moment, letting in the warmth of the sun and breathing in the fresh air of the sea?
I remember my Grandad used to sit in his garden chair like this, I was watching him when I was a child and I knew he wasn't sleeping either. I used to wonder what was on his mind at the time, but I never got round to ask him. I was too busy being a child.
Soon the gentleman stood up and walked slowly to the lighthouse, looked out to the open sea, and then started to walk back to the bench. That's when I decided that I am going to speak with him.
When I asked him if I can take a portrait picture of him, he smiled at me with warmth and kindness, and then answered to me politely each time I asked him a question.
After a few clicks and small questions I wished him a nice day and we both said goodbye, and that's when I realised I never asked him what was he thinking on that bench...
I was too busy again.
And maybe that's ok. Maybe he would have been opened to share, maybe he wouldn't. His thoughts remained private for him and a mystery to everyone else, just like my Grandads.
There is always a long version in my stories😆;
It all started with my 4 kids, of course. Helping them keeping track of their childhoods memories, making nice albums with stories to go with the photos.
Then our dog Aiko came into our lives and Instagram became one of our daily habits. The idea was to let our grown up kids be a part of Aiko's life at home, via Instagram.
I soon realized that there was so much more to see on our hikes than Aiko's face 😄
So, I started photographing sunsets and landscapes and posted them on Aiko's account. Aiko's 5000 followers wasn't too happy about the change and I realized that I had to switch to another platform where I could be me, go with the flow, letting my artistic soul blossom and enjoy Norway's scenery and small wonders to its fullest.
I deleted all Aiko's followers in June 2017 (yes it took some days 😂) and started with Flickr on full time.
