A quick cheeky snap while checking out tethered shooting with my camera. Taken in dark conditions hand held, so ISO was pushed up to 6400! But to be honest I quite like the atmosphere this has produced :-)

Day 252 of 365 (Year Two)

Week 86, Assignment 1 for Take A Class With Dave and Dave.

Propaganda poster. I personally love the propaganda posters we see from Soviet Russia, Mao’s China, even WW2 America. Propaganda is an overt effort to manipulate a populace, and these simplistic designs are often, all too often perhaps, very effective. This week create a propaganda poster for the cause of your choice. We have studied how to make an illustration, you have demonstrated design sense with your magazine ads; now create something to motivate the people!

I don't have my armor yet, but it is my goal to have it by the next Dragon*Con. Donations to support the cause are always welcome! LOL

Answering the phone with a smile.

that photography is art? That only certain types of photography are art? Which ones disqualify, and why? Could photography ever be Art? Or does it just mull in the lowercased a art category?

Why would a photograph that took little to no effort, such as the one above, be qualified as art? Or is it not? Is it about the effort that is placed in the work, or about the technique?

Sorry Drew and John for this question emerging again, I haven't found an answer I'm satisfied with yet.

Answer to guess the car - and my Dad's new car. He needed something larger than the Golf Cabrio for his art display stands and after a look around at various different options, went for this, an ex-demo Roomster.

Being the 105 bhp TSi petrol, it has a reasonable turn of speed and the interior is incredibly practical - I like the number of storage hooks / solutions inside.

Overall I quite like it; certainly not a car I knew anything about previously but a good choice for the use it'll get.

This is my answer to this manipulation game using Ness (or his cousin?) from LemonSunrise and this old camera by yummiedot, both were gracefully available under a Creative Common license.

I did basic retouches like removing the wood stuff and what the kid had in his hands then I added the camera and the monster. The monster shadow was added with grain merge.

And finally an old picture filter: border, sepia, noise and gaussian blur.

For me, this is some kind of "acausal answer" to Georgs great picture "Volatile Reflexions".

It's some kind of "answer" because I returned it to mind after I had seen Georgs picture here in April and immediately knew that I would upload this some day. And it's "acausal" because I took this picture already in 2005 after the games at the end of the juggling convention in Karlsruhe, when some of the jugglers tried to produce soap bubbles as big as possible.

Oregon raises money to take care of roads and bridges through a gas tax paid at the pump and vehicle fees. With more vehicles getting much better fuel efficiency, many people are paying less in gas taxes while using the road just as much. OReGO was designed to ensure drivers pay for what they use – miles of road – instead of what they consume – gallons of fuel. But most people don’t know a lot about how they pay for roads.

With federal grant funding, ODOT designed the Keep Oregon Connected campaign to help Oregonians understand the transportation funding problem, what it means for them and how OReGO works to solve it. ODOT will bring the campaign to community events around the state now through 2020, beginning with the Oregon State Fair in Salem, August 23-25. Follow ODOT on Facebook or on Twitter @OregonDOT to learn about future Keep Oregon Connected events.

Is blowin in the wind!

The simple expression of complex thought is one valid response of an aesthetically diverse society, answering the needs of particular individuals and provoking debate in society at large about how we choose to live and how we expect architecture to support these choices. Minimalism is a way of thinking about space:

its proportions, its surfaces, and the fall of light.

The vision is comprehensive and seamless, a quality of space rather than forms; places, not things. Minimalist architecture follows the doctrine that the use of all decorative elements should be held to an absolute minimum.

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

小さい事にこだわっていると、いい事ないよ。

気にしない事です。

I have a serious scotch habit. It was my buddy Derrick's 30th birthday and I told him to come over and have a glass of scotch. As I was pulling out the different options I said to myself "now that is like Christmas, I should take some pictures". So I put up a black backdrop and pulled out (5) 100+ lumin white flashlights. I said to my wife, "hey do we have a sheet of glass" and she had one from a picture frame.

So, I elevated the glass with (4) water glasses, put the flashlights in rox glasses just below the bottles pointing directly up at the bottles and glass. I set up my tri-pod and used my 70-200mm lens to give me just a hint more depth of field compared to my 24-70mm at f/2.8 (yes I realize I could have just shot with the 24-70mm more stopped down).

I really like how the bottles are in focus in the left shot with the glass just waiting and how the glass, scotch and cap (off of the 21yr) are the focus in the right shot!

The motor mounting plate is then unbolted and slid out from under the wiring harness. This reveals the 2 brass flywheels for the capstans

The belt linking them is then slipped off and the capstans/flywheels slid out of the upper bearings. Finally the reel drive belt is pulled through the chassis slot.

The abouna get a call on his mobile inside the church of Saint Antony. Despite the thick adobe walls, we could still get cell reception here. Yes, the monks have cell phones. Why wouldn't they?

The church was recently restored inside. The icons are stunning. Beautiful examples of medieval iconography of the Coptic art. Underneath this church is the oldest Coptic cell in the world. It dates to the 4th century AD.

Now I dismantled the operating keys. First, the spring-loaded bracket that locks them in the operated position was removed by unbolting one of its pivots from the chassis
