Here’s another interloper. This guy is a native of Africa and people thought they were so darn cute they imported them to Europe and then the United States. Of course, this one lives inFlorida - the unofficial capital of invasive species. Or rather, the national capital of humans who can’t help but bring weird, non-native animals home with them from faraway lands.
Anyway, as a “serious” bird photographer… I usually look down my nose at this one, because he’s an interloper. But here he was - preening and fluffing. I thought he looked kind of cool - just like the Egyptians thought when they put him on ancient art - and just like the meddlers thought when they decided they knew best which animals should live where.
Oh, and despite his name, he’s not really a goose, he’s a shelduck , but what the hell is a shelduck?

The males are looking very tatty at the moment as they moult out of eclipse plumage into full breeding, when they will be stunning. The females are also in the same stage of moult but they are showing it better

I think, after Wigeon, these are my favourite UK ducks. Such understated plumage which on close inspection is so beautiful. It always brings a smile to my face when I see them
Teal,
Order ;- Anseriformes,
Family ;- Anatidae,
Species ;- Anas crecca,
The smallest common surface-feeding duck, the Teal is agile and quick in flight, its movements recalling those of a wader, Nervous groups may often swoop down to a sheltered bay, only to dart over the water surface and wheel up and away once more, sometimes several such approaches precede their eventual settling,
In places, Teal occur in hundreds but 20 - 40 are more typical, scattered along well-vegetated or muddy shores, or in wet marshes,
Breeds in N and E Europe on freshwater marshes and wet moor and heaths, including high moorland pools, Winters more widely in S and W Europe, mostly on fresh waters with muddy edges and around estuaries, An absence of bright colours on the bill and legs helps to identify the female Teal,
Voice ;- Male has lod, ringing, high-pitched ' cirk crik ' that can be easily heard at long range marshes or estuaeies, female has high quack,
Nesting ;- Down-lined hollow near water, 8 - 11 eggs 1 brood, April - June,
Feeding ;- Mosly in water or on muddy shores, taking plants and seeds,
Length ;- 34 - 38 cm ( 13.5 - 15 in ),
Wingspan ;- 58 - 64 cm ( 23 - 25 in ), Weight,- 250 - 400 g ( 9 - 14 oz ).
Social ;- Small flocks,
Lifespan ;- 10 - 15 years,
Status ;- Secure,
Chajá 85 cm.

Cackling Goose
Branta hutchinsii
ORDER: Anseriformes
FAMILY: Anatidae
Listen out for the distinctively high-pitched call of the Cackling Goose—that's where the common name "Cackling" comes from—noticeably different from Canada Geese.
The Cackling Goose looks like a miniature version of the widespread Canada Goose, with which it was once combined as a single species. The two are almost identical in plumage, but Cackling Geese are more delicate, with stubbier bills, steeper foreheads, shorter necks (strikingly apparent in flying birds), and usually more rounded heads. Their calls are higher in pitch than those of Canada Geese. Like their larger relatives, Cackling Geese forage in marshes and fields in large flocks, often mixed with other goose species.
