This was taken in early February so this was probably an established pair renewing their bond for the upcoming season.
Unmistakable large black swan with a red bill. When swimming this species is almost entirely black. Wings show extensive white flight feathers when flying. Juveniles are similar but dark-gray. In Australia, compare with Magpie Goose, which has white belly, and white underwing with black tips. Typically found along inland waterways, rivers, sewage ponds, and coastal lagoons and inlets. Sometimes flocks together in enormous numbers on large wetlands. (eBird)

Our first glimpse of these magnificent birds was in Queensland and so distant that we couldn't be sure what we were seeing. We finally caught up with this pair in the pouring rain on Tasmania.

First time I have managed to photograph one of these. The conditions weren't ideal but I'll take it.
This Canadian Goose gosling was having trouble finding its feet so I'm guessing it must have only recently been born.
A huge flock of Pink-footed Geese (and 2 Barnacles in with them) were at Haughs of Airth this morning but it was raining. By the time I had finished my shopping trip the sun was shining and although most had flown off some still showed well
This Canadian Goose gosling thought I had some food so must have been disappointed to find all I had to offer was my camera.
Small duck with chalky-blue patches on the upperwing (visible in flight). Breeding males unmistakable with bold white crescent in front of eye and polka-dotted sides. Females are cold brown overall and intricately patterned. Look for a hint of a pale crescent on the face, as well as a dark eyeline and pale eye-arcs. Usually found in shallow wetlands or marshes, where it can occur in pairs or flocks, sometimes mixed with other species of ducks. Compare with other teal species: female Cinnamon Teal is warmer-toned overall and has a duller face pattern, while female Green-winged Teal is more compact, darker, and has a different wing pattern in flight. Just three of these lovely ducks were inhabiting the wetland. Of course, it could also be that the local 4th graders were out in hordes doing a project on wetlands and so most ducks took shelter deep in the reeds.

Sorry couldn't resist another one!
I was completely taken aback when I saw this Egyptian Gosling while out on my lockdown 3 exercise walk. It's the first time I had taken my camera with me while in this lockdown. It is way too early and I can only hope it survives. According to another walker there are only 2 left of 9 born 5 days ago.
Large duck with a sleek body and thin red bill. Breeding males have a dark green head and mostly white body with peachy blush on underparts. Females and immature males have rusty brown head and gray bodies with a cleanly demarcated white throat. Feeds in rivers, lakes, and large ponds by diving to catch fish. Hardy in winter, often staying as far north as open water permits. (eBird)

An early morning outing with the kids. At one point there were three little ones on her back. She shook them off briefly but they made their way back. This is her entire brood, all hoping to hitch a ride.

The eider is the UK's heaviest duck and its fastest flying. It is a true seaduck, rarely found away from coasts where its dependence on coastal molluscs for food has brought it into conflict with mussel farmers. Eiders are highly gregarious and usually stay close inshore, riding the swell in a sandy bay or strung out in long lines out beyond the breaking waves. It is an Amber List species because of its winter concentrations.

I came across these Shelduck Chicks on the busy promenade at Rossall, there was no sign of the parent birds, although they were probably around in the sand dunes keeping a low profile from all the people. They toddled off along a path and was there that I saw the opportunity to get them lined up with a nice backdrop.
Thanks for viewing my photos and for any favourites and comments, it’s much appreciated 👍
One of the wild BBWD's from Lafreniere Park, Metairie, Louisiana. These birds have moved into the area over the last twenty years or so. There are thousands of them now in this part of Louisiana. They are very colorful! The sun was very bright and the near black reflection on the water is from a wooden bridge that crosses this part of the lake. :-)

Small, compact duck with a long, fan-shaped tail, often held sticking up out of water. Breeding males have a chestnut body, black cap, white cheek, and baby-blue bill. Winter males have a brown body, black cap and white cheek. Females and immature males are brown overall with a dark cap and dark line through the cheek. Often in tight groups bobbing like corks on ponds and bays. Dives to forage on aquatic invertebrates. Not often seen flying. (eBird)

Wall-to-wall sunshine in Central Scotland today so dragged hubby off to see the Mandarins at Balloch after photographing them in the gloom and drizzle the other day. A total of 6 males and two females seen but there are a few more. What the origin of these birds is, I don't know, but they are free-flying and have been around for several years and are, presumably, self-sustaining. Plenty of habitat with overhanging trees and some old-growth trees for breeding.

A king duck is currently staying as an extremely rare guest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the Baltic Sea coast.
We set out to see this beautiful bird in the wild for once in our lives.
It was worth it ♥
Large, pale duck with protruding cream-colored plumes on flanks. Stands tall and proud in large flocks around the edges of lakes, ponds, dams, or in nearby agricultural land. As the name suggests, note distinctive whistling call. (eBird)

Ducks can have the most beautiful plumages, but this is the first one that I've seen with such large and decorative feathers. We saw them only three times, all in the north, but admired them each time.
