An amazing duck of fast-flowing Andean rivers and streams. I had never heard of this species before and this was the only one we saw.

This Greylag goose is driving out another goose.

A flight shot from my last visit to WWT Caerlaverock a couple of years back

Mute Swan, Attenborough Nature Reserve, yesterday, (Sunday 19th Jan), morning.

First time I have spent a prolonged period really shooting as low as possible, as close to the waters surface as I can. Absolutely revolutionary, although hardly news to anyone else! And as you can see, the light even before the sun came up was absolutely sublime!

This Ring-necked duck was diving with a companion drake at Lake Artemesia, so I edged up to them little by little to capture this shot. I've been looking to put a couple of what I call "definitive" shots into my collection for this duck and I think I can check this one off - for now. Also, I've started to play around with DPP4 as I see that it's giving me better results than my other photo software.

Taken 28 December 2016 at Lake Artemesia.

Our annual trip to WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre near Dumfries to day. Like most of the country under very dull grey skies and apalling light conditions so high ISO speeds and a lot of denoising required

Chajá 85 cm.

This one came in quite close, unfortunately not into direct sunlight

Another duck for this evening. I captured this American Wigeon drake at Cape May on a recent trip there. According to the Cornell website it's an increasing abundant duck.

Taken 15 October 2016 at Cape May Point State Park, New Jersey.

What a pleasure to watch these hooded mergansers exhibit their courting behavior. I was at Gunners Lake in Germantown, Maryland, and there was a small flock of about 10 hoodies that weren't terribly far from shore. The males were doing their courtship dance around the hens and each other and I was so excited to both see them do this and capture it for my photo collection. Even better was to listen to the drakes make what I can only describe as a sort of low croaking sound when they had their heads thrown back as in the above photo.

Taken 27 November 2016.

As always, my photos are my own. Please do not use them elsewhere without my permission.

I captured this juvenile wood duck at Huntley Meadows. Always nice to see them when they are young so I can learn to identify them as they grow into adult form and plumage! This one is so young that it doesn't even have what I call the white chin-straps yet.

Taken 2 July 2016 at Huntley Meadows, Virginia.

We often take photos of waterfowl landing with their spectacular water skiing. Taking off is a less spectacular exercise but involves far more effort from the bird. Some, like swans, start off like aircraft, using the water surface as a runway and "running" along the surface until they achieve airspeed. Smaller ducks do it from a standing/swimming start.

Crayfish, sometimes predator and sometimes prey.

Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) on guard duty on one of the ponds out at Cedar Meadows Resort and Spa located in the City of Timmins Ontario Canada

I was actually in the New Forest photgraphing some Birds of Prey but I became somewhat distracted by the lovely Canada Geese Goslings. Judging by the fact that they couldn't stand up in the breeze very well and the state of their coats I would say they were extremely young.
