This animation was part of a longer animated sequence which was titled 'Digital Immortality'.
Part of the stimuli for this project was Moravec's idea of transhumanism and Greg Egan's exploration of these ideas in Permutation City. The story focuses on human "copies" who live in a VR world.
My animation was in the style of a history documentary, a re-telling of history from a digital human "copy", it depicts war, poverty and the inequality between the poor and the rich. There are themes of the stereotypical "rich greed", how nothing was ever enough for them. They had all the wealth and technology they desired, however their health was not forever.
The rose sequence is a metaphorical representation of the human life cycle, birth, life and death. In the context of the full animation, this is apparent and there are accompanying text boxes which further the narrative between sequences.
To create this animation, I used Adobe Flash CS6 and a graphic drawing tablet. I used a video of a timelapsed rose's life cycle and drew on a layer above every couple frames. The overall length it took to create this sequence was about 40 hours altogether, it was very time-consuming because of the amount of frames that needed to be drawn.
Some initial ideas and planning for the project can be seen here:

Overall, I was not satisfied with the final animation. After the rose section was complete, I had to rush to complete all other sections and I also hadn't properly contemplated the animation processes that would be required to create the other scenes. This resulted in poor quality rushed sections of the animation which did not fit together properly. This project emphasised the importance of pre-planning and consideration of all aspects. It is important to use visualisation and information mapping techniques to design efficiently and more innovatively. For this project, I did not fully process what would be required, however I have learnt from the experience and I believe the rose section of the animation was successful for what it is meant to be and in relation to how I envisioned it.

Just a short animation i did with the UNSC frigate model. It really looks like the ring isn't a background and really a 3D object.

My first ever stop motion animation! Am quite pleased. It was for a brief, but lost the plot and it doesn't necessarily completely fit in with my work.
But this does not kill the joy of finding out that I may, indeed have a little patience.
I didn't to chuck the camera out of the window once.

I created this piece by using stop-motion photography. Each frame I hand drew and photographed, then I traced over and replicated the next one, however adjusting the scene and bunny slightly.
