The Hotel Angst was names after its owner, Adolf Angst. It was built between 1887 and 1914 and soon became one of the best hotels of the Riviera visited by Emperor Frederick of German and Queen Victoria.
After the outbreak of the First World War the Hotel's became a military hospital. After the war the 'hotel resumes its original purpose and was managed by Adolfs son. The hotel started a decline due to the changing type of tourism in the area as the tourism aristocrat had disappeared.
The hotel was again occupied during the second world war, and apparently held meetings withe Nazi and Benito Mussolini's party. The hotel was also used for refugees, and during this time became more run down and finally looted for its internal marble fixings and anything else of worth.
When myself and my brother visited a few years later we sneaked through a tiny gap in main gate at night and with only torches we walked up what would have been the main pathway to the front of the building. Im not for being scared at the first sign of a noise, but we didn't stay long as we heard a strange noise near us in the pitch black. The garden is ridiculously overgrown, with palm tress of at least 30 foot high, and when you walk up to the front of the building its very high and imposing.
When i walked up to a open window and shone a torch in its pretty freaky when you see old metal beds sitting in a corner of a room!
The most offensive part of the new traffic signals at Piedmont and Linda is this pair of demand-actuated pedestrian signals across the entrance to a small commercial driveway.
Fortunately, as far as I can tell, pedestrians uniformly ignore both the lights and the buttons here and cross the driveway against the light without hesitation, making the lights a waste of money but not an actual impediment to pedestrian travel.
In general the idea behind the signals seems to be to give, whenever possible, southbound traffic on Piedmont a constant green light with an occasional left turn arrow. Northbound traffic has to stop for the turn arrow. Both directions have to stop when demand builds up a little on Linda.
Pedestrians, however, receive a constant "don't walk" signal in all directions unless they stop and ask for a "walk" signal. They tend to get it reasonably quickly unless there are cars around, in which case there can be considerable delay. Many people did not press the buttons at all and just crossed against the light or gave up on waiting and crossed before they got the phase they had asked for.
Before yesterday there was a three-way stop sign here, and pedestrians could legally and in practice cross at all times with only slight delay to wait for cars to clear the intersection.
It's really just a before & after picture of Pre-teen Angst that just happens to have St. Peter's Square in the background!

Harold is a bit over 1-year now and he's got some tood ;-) He refused to smile for this shot!
This is a two light set-up. Shot on black and surrounded by black gobos to prevent light bouncing.
1.) Key light was an Elinchrom Quadra in beauty dish with sock diffuser boomed overhead and very close.
2.) 580 ex II with small grid for controlled light on the back of Harry's head.
All fired with Skyports
A white piece of foam core was placed below Harry to bounce some light back up under his chest, as the black paper beneath him could not do this - the bounced light fills in the shadows on this chest and beneath his face.
