King of the Road on his esk8. Electric longboarders show little fear on the streets of Chicago, mixing in with the fastest traffic and often accelerating faster than the cars around them. It's an amazing element of urban living and thrilling to see in person. I keep anticipating some horrific accident, but amazingly I'm yet to witness one. The skill of the esk8'ers is breathtaking and I often think they push the fine line between skill and risk to the hilt.

The Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni) is a small, highly social migratory falcon known for breeding in tight colonies within human structures like old buildings and towers.

Unlike the Common Kestrel, they are primarily insectivores, hunting grasshoppers and beetles, and feature distinct white'ish claws rather than black.

Males (here) are identifiable by their blue-grey heads and plain, unspotted backs, while both sexes are distinguished from common kestrels by their whitish-horn coloured talons, rather than dark talons in Common Kestrel.

Their eyesight is 8 to 12 times better than humans, and it extends into the ultraviolet range. This allows them to see the ultraviolet tracks left by prey.

The African fish eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer) is not a ‘true’ eagle but belongs to the Haliaeetus genus of sea eagles, alongside seven other species worldwide that include the American bald eagle and the Eurasian white-tailed eagle. This is one of the most ancient genera among all living birds. And it is a sight to behold.

African fish eagles are kleptoparasites, which is to say they habitually steal prey from other species. Common victims of this piratical behaviour include goliath herons and saddle-billed stork.

A fish eagle’s toes are coated in sharp barbs, called spiricules, which consequently help it to grasp fish and other slippery prey.

Fish are not the only item on the menu of this versatile predator. In addition, other prey includes ducks, terrapins, crocodiles, small waterfowl and even – in the soda lakes of East Africa – flamingos.

This bird’s conspicuous nature and charismatic presence ensure it figures prominently in the folklore and heraldry of several nations.

This amazing African Fish Eagle was photographed just after sunrise coming in to pick up the bait on a early morning boat ride on Lake Baringo, Kenya.

The other day a fox was running across our clearing in broad daylight. When I left the house to photograph her, she ran to the other side of the clearing and jumped onto the fence like a cat! And she stayed on the fence for about a minute, so I had time to take a few pictures.

Thank you all for visits, favs and comments, it's greatly appreciated!

In my profolio, I've got several shots of Seattle that I am proud of, and most of them were taken at sunset. This time I finally managed to get a sunrise one there.

This shot was taken on a Monday morning. The day before it was taken, the forecast showed that the cloud coverage would be mostly high and mid cloud in the next morning, and I knew that this might be a good sign for f a decent sunrise. The next morning, I woke up at 4am, and when I looked outside my window, I could see a bit of reddish cloud on the east side. That's it, I knew if red started to show up more than an hour before sunrise, it would simply get better and better. It took me half an hour to get to this spot, and this was what I was rewarded with.

We could be living the life

they all wish they were living

No chains to hold us down

They’re labeling us how we’re missing

But we have thrown it away

‘Cause we’ve seen better days
