The Village of Alert Bay is located on Cormorant Island which is accessed from the community of Port McNeill on the north end of Vancouver Island via a 45 minute BC Ferries ride. Evidence of this communities history as a fishing village can be found all along its shores and just a little bit of beach combing is sure to turn up beach glass and ceramic pieces of the past.

The Red Tail Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) is also known as the "Chicken hawk" along with 2 other species of Birds of Prey in the US. In actuality it rarely hunts chickens. Females are 25% larger than males, following the trend of female raptors being larger than their male counterparts. Adults may be bred but not taken into Falconry, only chicks may be used for falconry up to one year of age.
