I noticed there were 4 deer in my backyard. I hurried to get a camera, got onto my deck and they all froze, looking straight at me. They hung around for a bit, but were soon to scamper away.

A wonderful gift on a Saturday afternoon :-)

With a Marsh Harrier flying close by these Wigeon went into alert mode but didn't take off from the ice. Slightly different behaviour than seen a few weeks back. Not sure if the ducks have worked out the Marsh Harriers rarely hunt close to the hides. In fact there is also a Marsh Harrier on the ground to the right of these ducks that wasn't seen until mobbed by another Marsh Harrier

The Village of Alert Bay is located on Cormorant Island which is accessed from the community of Port McNeill on the north end of Vancouver Island via a 45 minute BC Ferries ride. Evidence of this communities history as a fishing village can be found all along its shores and just a little bit of beach combing is sure to turn up beach glass and ceramic pieces of the past.
