A student (30 years) and a former student (50 years) barricaded themselves at the University Fernando Pessoa within the school premises, in Porto, demanding to be received by the management of the educational establishment. Everything finished well after a few hours of negotiations!!

Prairie dogs will chirp as an alarm for other prairie dogs, when they see potential danger. The ones at the zoo are accustomed to humans; this little guy may have seen a vulture overhead.

One of my mad Springers on the Mendip Hills above Cheddar Gorge this morning. 1/250 sec, f/5.6, ISO 250, Canon 600D, 17-55mm f/28 @55mm. I was experimenting with auto ISO having forced myself to use manual everything since I got the 600D - I didn't realise that this gave intervals between what you can set manually!

Sony HX400V---The bird is poised to flee in an instant. They're one of the more wary songbirds. Unlike their close cousin, the American Robin, that has a beautiful trilling call, this species has one of the more irritating, off-key buzzing calls. Only the Yellow-headed Blackbird can rival them for discordance.

I'm sorry to have to report, that today, two days later, I found a burst of feathers from a Varied Thrush, at this same spot. It was probably caught by a neighbor's cat. There were several wing and tail feathers, so it was likely killed. Later, after dark, I saw a possum sniffing around there, so there must have been blood on some of the feathers.

Now, 12 days later, there's a pair of Varied Thrushes at my feeder again. I don't know if they are the same ones or not. If the one that left the feathers survived, the new feathers would be halfway grown back in by now.
