Today’s nature walk in Central Tucson revealed this alert mourning dove high above us in a large mesquite tree. It was a beautiful bright sunshiny day🌞

A female Northern Flicker. She is a regular at our suet feeder during the winter but has been away over the summer. It's nice to see her back today!
I realise with the wonders of the World Wide Web and flickr we are able to share our images across countries and continents and thought it might be worth sharing a little bit of information on the red squirrels that I have spent a fair bit of time with in recent weeks.
The red squirrel is native to Britain, but its future is increasingly uncertain as the introduced American grey squirrel expands its range across the mainland. There are estimated to be only 140,000 red squirrels left in Britain, with over 2.5 million greys. Sadly endangered throughout the UK as vast tracts of land become the domain of their dominant, non-native grey cousins, red squirrels are relatively easy to spot in Scotland, which is home to three quarters of the British population. The bushy tail and tufted ears combine to make the red squirrel one of the country's most endearing mammals.
As the end of winter approaches the red squirrel will lose the impressive tufted ears and much of their winter coat so I thought this is a good time to capture some of their behaviour while they still look in prime condition. The red squirrel is extremely agile and prefers to travel from tree to tree rather than on the ground. They always seem to be on the move, whether it be chasing on another or searching for food and they manage to perform various acrobatics along the way and this is what I have tried to capture in this series of images.

In this case, Hubby outside knocking on the front door just for these shots.
Henry (near) is less likely to give an alarm, but much more believable when he does.
Hence one of Zachary's nicknames: The Alarmist.
