The Eurasian nuthatch or wood nuthatch (Sitta europaea) is a small passerine bird found throughout the Palearctic and in Europe. Like other nuthatches, it is a short-tailed bird with a long bill, blue-grey upperparts and a black eye-stripe. It is a vocal bird with a repeated loud dwip call. There are more than 20 subspecies in three main groups; birds in the west of the range have orange-buff underparts and a white throat, those in Russia have whitish underparts, and those in the east have a similar appearance to European birds, but lack the white throat.

Its preferred habitat is mature deciduous or mixed woodland with large, old trees, preferably oak. Pairs hold permanent territories, and nest in tree holes, usually old woodpecker nests, but sometimes natural cavities. If the entrance to the hole is too large, the female plasters it with mud to reduce its size, and often coats the inside of the cavity too. The 6–9 red-speckled white eggs are laid on a deep base of pine or other wood chips.

The Eurasian nuthatch eats mainly insects, particularly caterpillars and beetles, although in autumn and winter its diet is supplemented with nuts and seeds. The young are fed mainly on insects, with some seeds, food items mainly being found on tree trunks and large branches. The nuthatch can forage when descending trees head first, as well as when climbing. It readily visits bird tables, eating fatty man-made food items as well as seeds. It is an inveterate hoarder, storing food year-round. Its main natural predator is the Eurasian sparrowhawk.

Fragmentation of woodland can lead to local losses of breeding birds, but the species' range is still expanding. It has a large population and huge breeding area, and is therefore classified by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as being of least concern.

this heron was hunting fish and very good at it, ever so quick and I saw him/her catch several fish in a matter of minutes.

The wildlife within Yellowstone NP encounter daily struggles in their survival ... especially in the winter season. Not only are they exposed to extreme temperatures and weather conditions, but food is also scarce, and the predators are always lurking for their next meal.

This image was taken while on a tour of Yellowstone NP about a month ago. We were fortunate to encounter a great variety of wildlife while there, including several sightings of elk. The numbers of elk however were less than I had anticipated. This gal was actively feeding on the shoreline vegetation along the winter. She rooted around through the snow for some tasty nibbles, but always remained on alert for intruders.

Thanks for stopping by to view and especially for sharing your thoughts and comments.

From a recent outing with my man Daps. Nice one mate.

Results of a recent outing...

The national Weather Service has issued a Nipple alert for the Upper Midwest United States.

Current temperature is 31 F, and with gusting winds...... Giving it a 6 F feeling.

Possibility of rain that may turn to slush or snow.

But ground conditions are so that accumulations shall not be a problem. But roadways may be slippery.

My advice would be to warm body before heading out.

Preferably human to human contact under covers. This saves the planet from greenhouse gases caused by the burning of fossil fuels to heat room.

With this simple act. We can lick this problem and add a little love to our day. (Of the planet of course. Fiddley dee.)

But spreading a little Pre-Christmas love is not a bad idea either......You can never give enough love. So have a warm cup of coffee. And bottoms up........

This was a National Weather Nipple Alert.

You may now return to whatever you were doing before, Hopefully it had nothing to do with chocolate and body........

That is all.

Yellow Mongoose

As soon as we pulled up (behind trees) this whole mob of roos kept an eagle eye on us. Pretty sure the big guy in the centre was the pack leader.

Holy Moly....... This is a nipple alert of epic proportion.

Not ona star, nope,,,,, not two stars,,, not even close,,,,,, But a five star...... Count them.... Five star nipple alert.

Got up this morning. And those girls were standing erect like rockets at that Elon Musk launch site. All gassed up and ready for lift off.......

And then I looked at the temperature, I did...... And it was 1' F. With a wind chill of -17 below... With a high of maybe +5 F forecasted for remainder of day........

Well............... Scratch laying outside in a bikini soaking in some sun rays today.....

And winter doesn't officially start for another 9 days.....

So....... Remember what I always say....... Yup...... Keep things simple.........

Think I'll crawl back in bed and get some shared Sandra heat... And maybe some of her massaging fingers to get a little blood circulation......

Can never have enough blood circulation fiddley dee !!!!!
