The intersection of Pearl and Prospect littered with yellow bits and chunks of yellow debris from a traffic accident, presumably involving a taxi. Ouch.

Burned debris from forest fires darkens the snow, decreases the reflectivity, and increases solar radiation - leading to more rapid snowmelt, according to an Oregon State University study (photo courtesy of Kelly Gleason, Oregon State University).

One night in October 2006, fuelled by Gin & nostalgia, Louise Bird played several hours of 7inch records on a 70’s Fidelity record player. From this aftermath I selected and mixed the following -
Fade to grey; Knowing me knowing you; Never gonna give you up; Rock the casbah; When will I see you again; Karma Chameleon; Your’e history; The lion sleeps tonight; 50 Ways to leave your lover; Black Betty; I will survive; Roulette; The Seed & the Sower; Are friends electric?
A whole albums worth of mixes using the aftermath can be downloaded here
One mix became the soundtrack to the video Tying Tone Arms.
While considerably tamer than the other photos I recently uploaded, this photoshoot made me fall in love with these guys all over again.
I just thought this photo was kind of funny. It's what was left in the parking lot next to Kinnick Stadium after the Hawkeyes football game ended. Not a natural disaster or anything serious, just the leftovers from tailgating.
We had our biggest storm of the winter yesterday. I was tied up during daylight, but drove down at dark, and the waves rolling in on the beach were huge. I went back this morning with a certain trepidation, but was delighted to find that my dragon had survived. Almost everything else is gone, rearranged, or thrown up on the seawalk. The wood at the front of the picture is fifty feet above the normal high tide mark. Dragons is TOUGH.
Got a message on Monday that my dad had been in a terrible accident.
he was backing up his rototiller and fell down. the rototiller got stuck in reverse and pulled him in by his right thigh. luckily the thing stalled after a couple
of seconds had passed. his neighbor found him and held his artery shut until paramedics could get there. that took about 40 minutes. then they had to use the jaws of life to cut the tiller off him. that took another 20 minutes. he flat lined on the way to the hospital.4 and 1/2 hours later and 20 some odd pints of blood he was stabilized. another 2 hour surgery the next day to clean everything out. heck they haven't even sewed him shut yet. but we are hoping for a full recovery. he's got a long road of PT ahead of him thats for sure.
Man he's a tough old bird!!
:D

I ran into a guy here who had been out in Astoria Park the night before when trees started falling over. Everyone knows to stay away when the ground is super saturated, but we got very little precipitation from this event. The wind did the lion's share of the work. Afterwards, I walked over to the East side of the park, where I encountered multiple downed trees, but also couples and kids strolling through the park. As I looked across the East River at the Manhattan Skyline, I realized just how much being stranded in Queens made me miss the rush of midtown. While the damage is over, most of us are stranded in our neighborhoods, as subway service will not be back for at least "3 or 4 days, maybe more," according to Mayor Bloomberg. Certainly I'm not the only one with cabin fever.
The 2CW title was on the line between "Big Rig" Brodie Lee and "Juggernaut" Jason Axe in an "I Quit" match!
The clocktower's also one of my favorite secret headquarters. Oracle and the Birds of Prey hang out there a lot.
