The aftermath. The tent withstood hours of abuse. We secured it with about a dozen additional ropes and stood inside holding it up, but eventually it was too much. This was the death of the tent. We'd cleared it out and had most of our stuff packed by that stage. But I was still in the tent with the two dogs when it collapsed. I was forced to the ground by the wind and laid on top of Casey til the wind let up. We are lucky that a tree didn't fall on us as five nearby trees did come down.

A friendly security guard didn't have the keys to let me on site, but he did say that people would be there on Saturday to let me take photos, I wont be able to make it down, but if someone else wants to go down instead?
I was going to document the demolition of the building over the coming months.
The sky was a very unusual colour after the storm of July 19. The sun was setting in the west but the sky was brighter in the east.

All of Hampden Road was lined with vegetation ripped from the trees. A sharp vegetable smell pervaded everywhere.

Margaret and Edgar made me the most wonderful birthday dinner. I cannot tell you how good it was.
I'll sum it up this way, envy and jealousy are completely appropriate sentiments for you to be feeling as you gaze at these photographs.

On our way out of New Orleans, we were finally able to see evidence of the destruction caused by hurricane Katrina, which we had missed in the dark on the way in to town. Probably the most bone-chilling image was exit after exit for miles along I-10 of abandoned city. It was clear at many exits that there is still no electricity, and that everything in that area is empty. We heard on the news that the population of the city has fallen below 100,000 people. And seeing all of the abandoned apartment complexes and neighborhoods drove that point home.
