In the back, the Shark Art Car.

This symbol is the hamsa hand, also called the Hand of Fatima in Islam and Hand of Miriam in Judaism (it is not the hand of Buddha!). The hamsa is a symbol of protection, strength, and power that dates back to ancient Mesopotamia. It is a popular symbol in the Middle East and North Africa, and is often used in wall hangings and jewelry. The hamsa is believed to protect against negative energies and the evil eye. It is also said to attract positive energies, which can lead to good health, happiness, fortune, and luck. For more info about the Hamsa (hand symbol), go to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamsa.

Huge Crowd of Hindu pilgrims gathered at the Sangam, on the bank of the Ganges river, to take the holy bath during the Kumbh Mela 2013 Hindu festival near Allahabad (India)

Looks amazing when viewed in high-resolution.

Small boats are patrolling the safety fence, in case a pilgrim would accidentally get swept away by the river current, as most of the Hindu pilgrims can't swim!

This was January 27 (a full-moon night, called Paush Purnima), one of the most auspicious days for taking the holy bath.

Dubai Palm Islands Aerial - Google Earth

Those are the amazing Dubai artificial "Palm Islands". Not sure it's good use of the earth resources needed to build them, but it looks cool.

The investment company that owns those has been in the news recently, because they are basically going bankrupt before completion of the project, causing turmoil in the financial world.

And also they are a little bit worried that it will be under water soon with Global Warming.

Plastic Bottles Trash - Turkish Kurdistan (Eastern Turkey)

On the side of a road, some poor people were sorting the plastic bottles from the rest of the trash in a landfill, for recycling.

Plastic bottles (especially mineral water bottles) are evil. Please drink tap water (or purified / filtered tap water if needed).

Sale of plastic bottles should not be permitted in countries that do not recycle plastic trash.

And in countries where plastic trash is recycled, there should be a tax on plastic bottles, used to finance recycling and to encourage people to bring their plastic trash to recycling centers where they would get that tax back. This is the case in many states in the US, and a lot of unemployed people make money by scavenging plastic trash and bringing it to recycling centers, where they get paid for the trash they bring. As a result, there is much less plastic trash in the environment.

One example is the California CRV: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Redemption_Value.

Hindu pilgrims gathering before dawn on the bank of the Ganges river, at the Sangam, during the Kumbh Mela 2013 festival near Allahabad (India)

The Triveni Sangam is the confluence of the Yamuna and the Ganga (Ganges) rivers, and this is the holiest place to take the ritual baths during the Kumbh Mela.

This was the early morning of January 27 (a full-moon night, called Paush Purnima), one of the most auspicious mornings for taking the holy bath. After a 7 km night walk, I arrived at the Sangam area at about 3am, early enough to be well positioned to take a few good photos. The yellowish color is caused by the dim sodium-vapor street lights.

People on the Coyote at night.

The giant Coyote sculpture by Bryan Tedrick (bryantedrick.com).

Photo taken at the Burning Man 2013 festival (Black Rock Desert, Nevada).

I heard that several people got injured on the Coyote (broken arms / wrists and what not). No-one died. Initially the coyote head could spin. I think many people got hit by the giant metal ears, This was the dangerous part especially if you didn't realize the head could spin. After taking several people to the hospital, they put a sign "Don't climb - Seriously", and locked the head. People kept climbing it anyway, since the sculpture was designed to be climbed. Later, the sign was changed to a more adequate "Climb at your own risks".

Helix Spire by erich remash (www.helixspire.com)

I initially thought that this climbable art installation got set on fire prematurely by an act of vandalism.

But here is a comment from Erich, one of the artists about the burning:

For the sake of clarity, you should know that the Helix was "not" burned prematurely or by vandals. Although during the burn, enforcement did show up and imply as much. We did things by the book, had permission and DPW+FAST support. We didn't intend to burn the structure initially, we managed to work it out however, but the only available slot was Thursday night. In hindsight this was a bad decision on our part, we lost sight of how many people wouldn't even be on site until Friday. What can I say, It was my second year on the playa and my partner's first. Live and learn.
