I took this photo at a cattle market I stumbled upon on the road in West Bengal (India).

All the local farmers were there to buy and sell livestock (often young animals).

This farmer was trying to convince his calf to suckle his cow mother's nipples. But the calf did not seem interested at the time.

The Man, by Larry Harvey, Rod Garrett.

In 2009, the Burning Man rises above a 'tangled bank' consisting of irregular wooden triangles. No two elements of this organic composition will be quite the same; together they'll create what's best described as a chaotic truss.

The truss is clearly inspired by the "belgian waffle" installation from 2006.

Devprayag is a Hindu holy city in India, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet and become the Ganges river.

This is the Ghat (steps to the holy bath) at the Sangam, i.e. the exact point of the confluence. Hindu pilgrims take a holy dip right where the two sacred rivers meet.

In Hindu mythology and culture, the Bhagirathi (on the left, with the green water) is considered the source stream of the Ganges. However, in hydrology, the other headstream, Alaknanda (on the right, with the brown water), is considered the source stream on account of its great length and discharge.

For more info about this place, go to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devprayag.

This is one of the 18 temporary pontoon bridges (i.e. floating bridges) installed during the Kumbh Mela 2013 festival near Allahabad (India).

This pontoon bridge is over the Ganges (Ganga) river. Those floating bridges are built on top of large empty metal tanks, and are anchored to the river bottom with ropes on the upstream side of the bridge. Those bridges can support trucks up to 10 Tons, but to be safe, the maximum weight was set to 5 Tons. Those bridges are mostly used for pedestrian traffic. During high affluence periods when large crowds are crossing the floating bridges, bridges are one-way, with alternating direction for each other bridge. This rule was taken after a stampede in a previous year caused the bridge railing to fail and many people to fall in the river and drawn (most of the Hindu pilgrims cannot swim!).

The water was very low in the Ganges river at the time, so in fact this bridge was not floating, but just sitting on the sandy bottom of the shallow river.

Kumbh Mela is the largest festival on Earth, taking place once every 12 years, with more than 50 million Hindu pilgrims gathering to pray and bathe in the holy Ganges river.

View from the top of the giant Coyote sculpture by Bryan Tedrick (bryantedrick.com).

View my other photos of the Coyote sculpture.

I am in the mouth of the coyote, and you can other guys climbing the sculpture under me.

I heard that several people got injured on the Coyote (broken arms / wrists and what not). No-one died. Initially the coyote head could spin. I think many people got hit by the giant metal ears, This was the dangerous part especially if you didn't realize the head could spin. After taking several people to the hospital, they put a sign "Don't climb - Seriously", and locked the head. People kept climbing it anyway, since the sculpture was designed to be climbed. Later, the sign was changed to a more adequate "Climb at your own risks".

After scrambling down another long and steep squeeze, we reach the beautiful Clearwater underground river. This is one of the largest cave river in the world.

This photo is a 30 sec long exposure at ISO 3200.

We walked one Km or so downstream along this river, to reach the cave mouth. We had to cross it several times, usually knee deep, sometimes waist deep. The water is crystal clear. We often had to walk on narrow ledges or slippery rock slopes on the river banks. The biggest danger is to fall on some of the sharp rocks that are half submerged in the river.

Photo taken in the Clearwater cave system in Gunung Mulu National Park (Borneo)

The Clearwater System is believed to be the largest interconnected cave system in the world by volume and the 9th longest cave in the world at 189 Km (as of 2011).
