Sun, Beaches, Sea, Summer, but also ... Friendship, Fun, Loneliness, Nostalgia and ... a great desire to live with the great desire to return to the normal life of always before the pandemic (to always keep in mind that, even if the worse than the Covid-19 pandemic, it now seems to be behind us, the crisis is certainly not to be considered over just because mortality has reduced): I present here, on Flickr, a collection of exhibitions made in this hot summer, with traceable photographs, almost entirely, in the "beach photography" genre. The photographs were all taken in July-August 2022, on the beaches of the east coast of Sicily, and of the Ionian coast of Calabria.

Sole, Spiagge, Mare, Estate, ma anche ...Amicizia, Divertimento, Solitudine, Nostalgia e… tanta voglia di vivere col grande desiderio di ritornare alla vita normale di sempre ante-pandemia (da tenere sempre a mente che, anche se il peggio della pandemia da Covid-19, sembra ormai alle spalle, la crisi non è certo da considerarsi terminata solo perché la mortalità si è ridotta): presento qui, su Flickr, una raccolta di esposizioni realizzate in questa calda estate, con fotografie riconducibili, per la quasi totalità, al genere “beach photography”. Le fotografie sono state tutte realizzate nel mese di Luglio-Agosto 2022, sulle spiagge della costa orientale della Sicilia, e della costa ionica della Calabria.

Wings out, beak forward, and attitude fully engaged—this white ibis isn’t just flying, it’s making an entrance. With the sun catching its feathers like a spotlight and the trees politely stepping aside, it looks like it’s auditioning for a nature documentary narrated by Morgan Freeman. You can almost hear it thinking, “I am grace. I am speed. I am mildly annoyed that you’re not applauding.”
This photo captures the moment just before the ibis files a complaint about the wind direction or demands a better landing zone.

All the photos I present were taken on the beaches of the Italian town “Sant’Andrea Apostolo dello Jonio” in Calabria (southern Italy); I made photos related to "beach photography" (a genre similar to "street photography");
... I photographed young and old people ... with a great desire for the sea and a great desire to dive into the sea to swim; I made some photo-portraits of people I didn't know, I thank them very much for their sympathy and their availability; I tried to capture the essence of minimal photographic stories, collected walking along the beaches ... in search of fleeting moments ...
I used a particular photographic technique for some photographs at the time of shooting, which in addition to capturing the surrounding space, also "inserted" a temporal dimension, with photos characterized by being moved because the exposure times were deliberately lengthened, they are confused -focused-imprecise-undecided ... the Anglo-Saxon term that encloses this photographic genre with a single word is "blur", these images were thus created during the shooting phase, and not as an effect created subsequently, in retrospect, in the post-production

Tutte le foto che presento sono state realizzate sulle spiagge del paese di “Sant’Andrea Apostolo dello Jonio” in Calabria (Catanzaro); ho realizzato foto riconducibili alla “beach photography” (un genere affine alla “street photography”);
ho fotografato persone giovani e meno giovani…con tanta voglia di mare e tanta voglia di immergersi in acqua per fare qualche nuotata; ho realizzato alcuni foto-ritratti di persone che non conoscevo, le ringrazio veramente tanto per la loro simpatia e la loro disponibilità; ho cercato di cogliere al volo l’essenza di storie fotografiche minime, raccolte camminando sulle spiagge... alla ricerca di attimi fugaci s-fuggenti ...
Ho utilizzato per alcune fotografie una tecnica fotografica particolare al momento dello scatto, che oltre a catturare lo spazio circostante, ha "inserito" anche una dimensione temporale, con foto caratterizzate dall’essere mosse poiché volutamente sono stati allungati i tempi di esposizione, sono confuse-sfocate-imprecise-indecise...il termine anglosassone che racchiude con una sola parola questo genere fotografico è "blur", queste immagini sono state così realizzate in fase di scatto, e non come un effetto creato successivamente, a posteriori, in fase di post-produzione.---------------------------------------------------------

All the photos I present were taken in the town of Taormina;
I made photos related to "street photography";
I photographed people who, for the most part, I had never met before, performing their portraits, I thank them for their sympathy and availability;
The volcano Etna, in recent days has shown an intense eruptive activity, even with intense phenomena called "lava fountains", continuous jet emissions persisted intensely for many minutes, of very high "fountains" of incandescent magma, very spectacular and uncommon, in particular, which took place on 23-02 at night, it reached exceptional dimensions and heights; I photographed that spectacular eruptions using a telephoto lens, from Taormina; I photographed Jakub Rizman, an excellent harp player, who spread sweet notes throughout the main square of Taormina, creating a fairytale atmosphere (on YouTube I found some musical performances of him);
these are just a few minimal photographic stories, collected walking down the street ... in search of fleeting moments ...
For some photographs I used a particular photographic technique at the time of shooting, which in addition to capturing the surrounding space, also "inserted" a temporal dimension, with photos characterized by being moved because the exposure times were deliberately lengthened, they are confused -focused-imprecise-undecided ... the Anglo-Saxon term that encloses this photographic genre with a single word is "blur", these images were thus created during the shooting phase, and not as an effect created subsequently, in retrospect, in the post-production.

Tutte le foto che presento sono state realizzate nella cittadina di Taormina;
ho realizzato foto riconducibili alla “street photography”;
ho fotografato persone che, per la maggior parte, non avevo incontrato prima, eseguendo dei loro ritratti, le ringrazio per la loro simpatia e disponibilità;
il vulcano Etna, nei giorni scorsi ha mostrato una intensa attività eruttiva, anche con intensi fenomeni chiamati "fontane di lava", emissioni a getto continuo perdurate intensamente per molti minuti, di altissime "fontane" di magma incandescente, molto spettacolari e non comuni, una in particolare, avvenuta il 23-02 di notte, ha raggiunto dimensioni e altezze eccezionali; ho fotografato da Taormina quelle spettacolari eruzioni, usando un teleobiettivo; ho fotografato Jakub Rizman, un eccellente suonatore d'arpa, che ha diffuso dolcissime note per tutta la piazza principale di Taormina, creando un'atmosfera da favola (su YouTube ho trovato alcune sue esibizioni musicali);
sono queste solo alcune storie fotografiche minime, raccolte camminando per la strada ... alla ricerca di attimi fugaci s-fuggenti ...

FEC train 103 splits the MP 168 intermediates near City Point on their way south to Fort Pierce, FL.
The new main on the right of the train is complete but it has not been activated yet. This extention runs between the new Cocoa Junction control point (this CP still hasn't been activated as well) to CP Frontenac. Frontenac used to be the south end of the Titusville double track and with Brightline’s project occurring, FEC decided to double track this section between Cocoa Junction and Frontenac as it didn't make sense for a small 2-4 mile stretch of single track to remain between the two CPs. This will likely help reduce bottlenecking and traffic slowdowns while the unit train arrives at City Point each weekday morning. For example, the 103 seen here had to wait until 336 and 915 cleared the main before they were able to proceed south.

Chapter III: The Saboteur's Plan

When Richard materialized in the bustling streets of New York in the year 2025, he immediately felt a disturbance in the temporal fabric. People were passing by in a hurry, unaware of the imminent danger lurking in the shadows. Following the coordinates provided by the Ministry, Richard and his companion headed towards the vicinity of a nuclear plant. As they approached, they saw a suspicious figure hunched over a device of peculiar appearance typing rapidly on it. With stealth and precision, Richard approached the saboteur, while his pulse throbbed with electric intensity. Suddenly, footsteps were heard resonating beside him, and Agent Pablo Torres emerged from the shadows, his weapon drawn and ready.
"We have you now," proclaimed Pablo with firm and authoritative voice.
The saboteur leaped and started running as Richard and Pablo chased after him. At a certain point, he abruptly stopped and with a cold smile on his face, rummaged in a pocket and pulled out a small device that he activated with a click. With a dazzling flash of light, a temporal distortion opened before him. Before Richard or Pablo could react, the saboteur disappeared into the temporal vortex, leaving the agents astonished and without clues to follow his trail.
Back at the Ministry, Richard and Pablo faced the harsh reality of their failure. The saboteur had escaped, leaving behind more questions than answers. As they discussed what had happened, Richard noticed that Pablo was out of breath, with a hand on his chest.
"Are you okay, Pablo?" asked Richard, concerned.
Pablo nodded with a weak smile. "I don't think I'll be able to join you in the next pursuit," he admitted.
Richard furrowed his brow, visibly worried about his friend's health. Later, after leaving Pablo in the infirmary, Richard reflected with amazement: "It's the first time we've seen interdimensional portals open wherever one desires. This complicates things a lot."
With time running out, they knew they had to redouble their efforts to stop the saboteur's sinister plans and protect the timeline at all costs.

I came across a mural whose faces were erased with a spray can: it was deliberately defaced, outraged, whoever did this, for political purposes and for reasons of opportunism, then published this gesture on Facebook, as if it were a trophy, causing serious damage not only to the whole community of Taormina, but also to anyone who comes to Taormina, who must be able to enjoy its natural, cultural and artistic beauties: now this mural created by the street artist TVBOY entitled "Saint Carola protectress of refugees" has been horribly mutilated by her beauty, but, even so ... it cannot fail to arouse emotion, because that black spray that has erased the faces, (to me) seems to have given the work even more voice, the voice of suffering of those who travel to other worlds, knowing they are going to meet enormous risks and a future full of uncertainties: a future as black as that spray; so I wanted to know (and photograph) the other two murals by TVBOY, an artist of Sicilian origins, one depicts the pop singer Mahmood, a work entitled "San Mahmood", the other work is titled "Homage to the master Andrea Camilleri";
I photographed the spectacular eruption of the Etna volcano which took place on the evening of 01/18-2021, using a telephoto lens;
these are just a few minimal photographic stories, collected walking down the street ... in search of fleeting moments ...

mi sono imbattuto in un murales i cui volti sono stati cancellati con una bomboletta spray: è stato volutamente deturpato, oltraggiato, chi ha fatto ciò, per scopi politici e per motivi di opportunismo, ha poi pubblicato tale gesto su Facebook, come se fosse un trofeo, arrecando un danno gravissimo non solo a tutta la comunità di Taormina, ma anche a chiunque venga a Taormina, che deve poter godere delle sue bellezze naturali, culturali ed artistiche: adesso questo murales realizzato ad opera dello street artist TVBOY intitolato “Santa Carola protettrice dei rifugiati” è stato orrendamente mutilato della sua bellezza, ma, anche così…non può non suscitare commozione, perché quello spray nero che ha cancellato i volti, (a me) sembra aver dato all’opera ancora più voce, la voce della sofferenza di chi si mette in viaggio verso altri mondi, sapendo di andare incontro a enormi rischi e ad un futuro colmo di incertezze: un futuro nero come quello spray; ho voluto così conoscere (e fotografare) gli altri due murales di TVBOY, artista di origini siciliane, uno raffigura il cantante pop Mahmood, opera intitolata “San Mahmood”, l’altra opera si intitola “Omaggio al maestro Andrea Camilleri”;
Ho fotografato la spettacolare eruzione del vulcano Etna avvenuta la sera del 18-01-2021, utilizzando un teleobiettivo;

... every two months, my Provincial Health Authority of Messina (Sicily) sends me on a mission for three days (from Taormina) to the Civil Hospital of Lipari, located in via Saint Anne ... In my spare time, free from commitments of work, I dedicate myself to my photographic passion; the photographs I present here were all taken in February of this year 2022; I took photos according to the dictates of street photography, I made some portraits, having always met people in the hand and very willing to let themselves be photographed (maybe ... that the islanders are open-minded, eager and used to communicate with strangers ..?!), some portraits were made of people intent on their work, some fishermen were intent on repairing their nets, a lady showed me one of her beautiful work, a blanket she made with knitting needles , hanging on her balcony (it reminded me of the shawls my grandmother made, also made with hand knitting needles); all the photos were taken in the city of Lipari, except three, taken in the dark in the port of Milazzo, the port of departure and arrival with hydrofoils (but there is also the ship) for the Aeolian Islands.
….ogni due mesi, la mia Azienda Sanitaria Provinciale di Messina, mi manda in missione per tre giorni (da Taormina) all’Ospedale Civile di Lipari, situato in via Sant’Anna …Nei ritagli di tempo, libero dagli impegni di lavoro, mi dedico alla mia passione fotografica; le fotografie che qui presento sono state tutte realizzate nel mese di febbraio di quest’anno 2022; ho realizzato foto secondo i dettami della fotografia di strada (street photography), ho realizzato alcuni ritratti, avendo incontrato sempre persone alla mano e molto disponibili nel lasciarsi fotografare (sarà forse…che la gente isolana è di mentalità aperta, desiderosa ed abituata a comunicare con gli estranei..?!), alcuni ritratti sono stati eseguiti a persone intente nei loro lavori, alcuni pescatori erano intenti a riparare le loro reti, una signora mi ha mostrato un suo bellissimo lavoro, una coperta da lei realizzata coi ferri a maglia, appesa nel suo balcone (mi ricordava gli scialli che realizzava mia nonna, anch’essi realizzati coi ferri a mano); tutte le foto sono state realizzate nella città di Lipari, tranne tre, realizzate col buio nel porto di Milazzo, scalo di partenza e di arrivo con gli aliscafi (ma c’è anche la nave) per le isole Eolie.

I photographed people who, for the most part, I had never met before, performing their portraits, I thank them for their sympathy and availability;
The volcano Etna, in recent days has shown an intense eruptive activity, I photographed that spectacular eruptions from Taormina;
I tried to capture minimal photographic stories, collected walking down the street .. ... in search of fleeting moments ...
For some photographs I used a particular photographic technique at the time of shooting, which in addition to capturing the surrounding space, also "inserted" a temporal dimension, with photos characterized by being moved because the exposure times were deliberately lengthened, they are confused -focused-imprecise-undecided ... the Anglo-Saxon term that encloses this photographic genre with a single word is "blur", these images were thus created during the shooting phase, and not as an effect created subsequently, in retrospect, in the post-production.

ho realizzato foto riconducibili alla “street photography”;
ho fotografato persone che, per la maggior parte, non avevo incontrato prima, eseguendo dei loro ritratti, le ringrazio per la loro simpatia e disponibilità;
il vulcano Etna, nei giorni scorsi ha mostrato una intensa attività eruttiva, anche con intensi fenomeni chiamati "fontane di lava", emissioni a getto continuo perdurate intensamente per molti minuti, di altissime "fontane" di magma incandescente, molto spettacolari e non comuni, le fotografie dell'Etna sono state realizzate da Taormina;
ho provato a cogliere storie fotografiche minime, raccolte camminando per la strada ... alla ricerca di attimi fugaci s-fuggenti ...
Ho utilizzato per alcune fotografie una tecnica fotografica particolare al momento dello scatto, che oltre a catturare lo spazio circostante, ha "inserito" anche una dimensione temporale, con foto caratterizzate dall’essere mosse poiché volutamente sono stati allungati i tempi di esposizione, sono confuse-sfocate-imprecise-indecise...il termine anglosassone che racchiude con una sola parola questo genere fotografico è "blur", queste immagini sono state così realizzate in fase di scatto, e non come un effetto creato successivamente, a posteriori, in fase di post-produzione.

... every two months, my Provincial Health Authority of Messina (Sicily) sends me on a mission for three days (from Taormina) to the Civil Hospital of Lipari, located in via Saint Anne ... In my spare time, free from commitments of work, I dedicate myself to my photographic passion; the photographs I present here were all taken in February of this year 2022; I took photos according to the dictates of street photography, I made some portraits, having always met people in the hand and very willing to let themselves be photographed (maybe ... that the islanders are open-minded, eager and used to communicate with strangers ..?!), some portraits were made of people intent on their work, some fishermen were intent on repairing their nets, a lady showed me one of her beautiful work, a blanket she made with knitting needles , hanging on her balcony (it reminded me of the shawls my grandmother made, also made with hand knitting needles); all the photos were taken in the city of Lipari, except three, taken in the dark in the port of Milazzo, the port of departure and arrival with hydrofoils (but there is also the ship) for the Aeolian Islands.

Even in Sicily bad weather has arrived, now as I write, there is a furious storm in progress, yesterday "it was raining ashes" coming from a giant cloud spit from the Etna volcano .... (always umbrellas ... it is ....!) ... but until yesterday .... (except for a few rainy days) the good weather and, thanks to the warm sirocco and libeccio winds, coming from Africa ... have enticed the swimmers (among them the many tourists present in Taormina and surroundings ... ) to go to the beaches; certainly the situation has changed compared to the hottest months of July and August, in which months the beaches were always very crowded, in the last days of the end of October, however, the beaches presented themselves with the most distant bathers .... with presences constant, but not excessive.
..... with this series that I am about to post, with the arrival of the bad season, at least for this year, I abandon the photographs taken on the beaches.
….. Anche in Sicilia è arrivato il cattivo tempo, ora mentre scrivo, c’è un furioso temporale in corso, ieri “pioveva cenere” proveniente da una gigantesca nuvola sputata dal vulcano Etna….(sempre di ombrelli…si tratta….!) …ma fino ad avant’ieri….(tranne qualche giornata piovosa) il bel tempo e, complici i venti caldi di scirocco e di libeccio, provenienti dall’Africa… hanno invogliato i bagnanti (tra questi i molti turisti presenti a Taormina e dintorni…) a frequentare le spiagge; certamente è cambiata la situazione rispetto ai mesi più caldi di luglio e di agosto, nei quali mesi le spiagge erano sempre molto affollate, in questi ultimi giorni di fine ottobre invece le spiagge si sono presentate con i bagnanti più distanti tra loro….con presenze costanti, ma non eccessive.
….. con questa serie che mi appresto a postare, con l’arrivo oramai della brutta stagione, almeno per quest’anno, abbandono le fotografie colte sulle spiagge.
….. Ho realizzato dei foto-ritratti di persone che non conoscevo, le ringrazio veramente tanto per la loro simpatia e la loro disponibilità; ho cercato di cogliere al volo l’essenza di storie fotografiche minime, raccolte camminando lungo le spiagge di Taormina (e dintorni…)... alla ricerca di attimi fugaci s-fuggenti ...

Sun, Beaches, Sea, Summer, but also ... Friendship, Fun, Loneliness, Nostalgia and ... a great desire to live with the great desire to return to the normal life of always before the pandemic (to always keep in mind that, even if the worse than the Covid-19 pandemic, it now seems to be behind us, the crisis is certainly not to be considered over just because mortality has reduced): I present here, on Flickr, a collection of exhibitions made in this hot summer, with traceable photographs, almost entirely, in the "beach photography" genre. The photographs were all taken in July-August 2022, on the beaches of the east coast of Sicily, and of the Ionian coast of Calabria.

Sole, Spiagge, Mare, Estate, ma anche ...Amicizia, Divertimento, Solitudine, Nostalgia e… tanta voglia di vivere col grande desiderio di ritornare alla vita normale di sempre ante-pandemia (da tenere sempre a mente che, anche se il peggio della pandemia da Covid-19, sembra ormai alle spalle, la crisi non è certo da considerarsi terminata solo perché la mortalità si è ridotta): presento qui, su Flickr, una raccolta di esposizioni realizzate in questa calda estate, con fotografie riconducibili, per la quasi totalità, al genere “beach photography”. Le fotografie sono state tutte realizzate nel mese di Luglio-Agosto 2022, sulle spiagge della costa orientale della Sicilia, e della costa ionica della Calabria.

"the help" .... ... yesterday Baby Jesus was born, for those who are Christians this represents an immense act of God's love for his children ... and it is to that God-Man that we often resort to asking for help .... who among us ... has never needed help ...?! .....
I photographed people I had never met before, I thank them for their sympathy and availability: I met Antonio and his girlfriend, who came to Taormina to spend the last day together, the next day Antonio will leave to go very far, unfortunately leaving his beloved, to see her again who knows when ... I met the Japanese companion of my dear friend Cesare, who flew to the sky many years ago, I knew about his companion, but I had never met her before ... I photographed a sweet Chinese girl that I met on three different occasions, each time with a little more confidence….

"the help"...."l'aiuto" ...ieri è nato Gesù Bambino, per chi è cristiano questo rappresenta un atto d’amore immenso di Dio per i suoi figli...ed è a quel Dio-Uomo che spesso ricorriamo chiedendo aiuto.... chi tra noi...non ha mai avuto bisogno di aiuto...?!.....
ho fotografato persone che non avevo mai incontrato prima, le ringrazio per la loro simpatia e disponibilità: ho incontrato Antonio e la sua ragazza, venuti a Taormina per trascorrere l'ultimo giorno insieme, il giorno successivo Antonio partirà per andare molto lontano, lasciando purtroppo la sua amata, per rivederla poi chissà quando….Ho conosciuto la compagna Giapponese del mio carissimo amico Cesare, volato in cielo tanti anni fa, sapevo di questa sua compagna, ma non l’avevo mai conosciuta prima…Ho fotografato una dolce ragazza Cinese che ho incontrato in tre occasioni diverse, ogni volta con un pizzico di confidenza in più….

The island of Sicily is a land that you never stop discovering, rich in natural treasures, artistic works, artifacts that are the fruit of human ingenuity, in its historical and cultural panorama it is the popular traditions that represent an unparalleled "eco living, static and dynamic at the same time "that exist (and persist) becoming visible, only when it is the people themselves who decide to give voice to them, traditions whose roots sink into a dark and distant past made up of stratified cultures between them, very often synonymous with wars and dominations, to throw ever green leaves in the present: this as a preamble to what I am going to describe in words and photographs, of the traditional folk festival of the "Maiorchino tournament", unique in its kind, which is is held this year in the Sicilian town of Novara di Sicilia. This ancient medieval center is an ancient village located in the province of Messina, whose name seems to come from a transformation of the ancient Latin name Noa into the Arabic language Nouah, which means "flower garden", to indicate the beauty of this territory, so appreciated by the Arabs when they settled here. The “Maiorchino Tournament” is a game that was once very popular in the province of Messina (Sicily) in the areas of the Nebrodi and Peloritani mountains, but which today survives exclusively in the town of Novara di Sicilia; the game-competition, complete with cheering towards the various teams, takes place during the Carnival period, it is a team competition (each team consists of three players, both men and women), which consists in throwing a heavy circular shape the precious Novara di Sicilia cheese called “Maiorchino” (cheese made with sheep's and goat's milk, whose weight varies between 10 and 12 kg); to throw the heavy cheese the players use a rope that is wound (as if it were a yo-yo) along the circumference of the cheese, a rope that is previously treated with pitch, to make it more "sticky" when it is unrolled during the launch; the route is downhill and is in stages, the total length of which is about one kilometer; to complete the entire course each team will have to do a lot of throws, the team that completes the entire course with fewer throws as possible wins. The photographs of the tournament, both for men and women, I took on Shrove Tuesday this year 2022, while the last two past editions were not taken due to the covid-19 pandemic.
L’isola di Sicilia è una terra che non si finisce mai di scoprire, ricchissima di tesori naturali, di opere artistiche, di manufatti frutto dell’ingegno umano, nel suo panorama storico e culturale sono le tradizioni popolari quelle che rappresentano una ineguagliabile “eco vivente, statica e dinamica al tempo stesso” che esistono (e persistono) divenendo visibili, solo nel momento in cui è il popolo stesso che decide di dare voce ad esse, tradizioni le cui radici sprofondano in un oscuro e lontano passato fatto di culture stratificate tra loro, molto spesso sinonimo di guerre e dominazioni, per gettare foglie sempre verdi nel presente: questo come preambolo di quanto vado a descrivere in parole e fotografie, della tradizionale festa popolare del “torneo del Maiorchino”, unica nel suo genere, che si è tenuto quest’anno nel paese siciliano di Novara di Sicilia. Questo antico centro medioevale è un antico borgo situato in provincia di Messina, Il cui nome sembrerebbe provenire da una trasformazione dell’antico nome latino Noa nella lingua araba Nouah, che significa “giardino fiorito”, ad indicare la bellezza di questo territorio, così apprezzato dagli Arabi quando qui si insediarono. Il “Torneo del Maiorchino”, è un gioco in passato molto diffuso in provincia di Messina nelle zone dei monti Nebrodi e dei monti Peloritani, ma che oggi sopravvive esclusivamente a Novara di Sicilia; il gioco-competizione, con tanto di tifo verso le varie squadre, si svolge durante il periodo di Carnevale, è una gara a squadre (ogni squadra è composta da tre giocatori, sia uomini che donne), che consiste nel lanciare una pesante forma circolare del pregiato formaggio di Novara di Sicilia chiamato “Maiorchino” (formaggio realizzato con latte di pecora e di capra, il cui peso varia tra i 10 ed i 12 Kg); per lanciare il pesante formaggio ci si avvale di una corda che viene avvolta (come se fosse uno di yo-yo) lungo La circonferenza del formaggio, corda che viene precedentemente trattata con della pece, per renderla più “adesiva” quando verrà srotolata durante il lancio; il percorso è in discesa ed è a tappe, la cui lunghezza totale è di circa un chilometro; per completare l’intero percorso ogni squadra dovrà fare molto lanci, vince la squadra che completerà l’intero percorso con meno lanci possibili. Le fotografie del torneo, sia maschile che femminile, le ho realizzate il giorno di martedì grasso di quest’anno 2022, mentre le due ultime passate edizioni non state realizzate a causa della pandemia da covid-19.

We are All Animals, 130 Bloor Street West: We arrive at the forecourt of this condominium to find a family of coyotes waiting outside the entrance. A pup, huddled under its mother, looks toward the street and the park beyond. The other coyotes face away from the park, and toward the building’s entrance: do they want to come in?
But these coyotes are not entirely natural. Their triangulated forms bridge the natural and digital worlds. Do you see the large LED screen near the entrance to the building? This part of the work also focuses on the relationship between the natural and the digital. Powered by gaming software, the digital landscape changes subtly with the seasons. This digital representation of the natural environment sits in conversation with the environment of High Park just steps away across the street. Take a seat on the brass bench, maybe pause to consider the co-existence of ecology, environmentalism and the technology we have created. This bench is inscribed with the name of this work “we are all animals”.
The creators, Public Studio, is the collective art practice of filmmaker Elle Flanders and architect Tamira Sawatzky. The artists are concerned with the personal, social, and political implications of landscape. Public Studio’s multidisciplinary practice often engages themes of political dissent, war and militarization, and ecology and urbanization, through the activation of site. I had a cochlear implant April 28.
There's an internal device and external one that I place on and off each day.
The internal was activated (turned on) May 21.
I'd been made well aware that the world would be bizarre since the input to the ear was no longer auditory but electric and the brain needed to learn what to do with it all.
On activation day, Lisa (audiologist) said I probably wouldn't understand words, at this point she wanted to know if I could recognize that she was talking, it wasn't just an array of crazy sounds
She turned it on and spoke.
I said I know you're speaking. It's robotic, in a flat monotone and it sounds like you're in an echo chamber with a bunch of crickets.
It's very metallic and I can't make. out any words.
She made an adjustment (all via computer) and it was pretty similar.
Another adjustment and she said something short.
I looked at her and asked "did you just say 'how about now?'
She said Yes!
A friend had come with me so I asked her to speak.
I could reply in like, saying 'I think it's wonderful too'
We both got teary eye'd and weepy.
I was given a booklet of hearing exercises to do each day and my friend is my partner.
First day I got 8 of 10 right.
Then we started chatting. I took out my HA and just relied on the implant.
We talked for 45 minutes and I could understand almost all she was saying.
Since then I'm up to 10/10 and. we can converse for hours with me just using the implant.
Each day I take the HA out and read out loud for an hour.
My own voice is quite loud in the implanted side.
Of course I know what I'm saying but the implant is learning the words.
I can hear my brother with just implant, most others I need HA too.
Environmental sounds are a different challenge of their own, but that's also moving along.
Voices are normalizing.
I have more apts with Lisa (one on Friday) where I suspect she'll make more adjustments and open more "channels".
It's been more than I had dared to hope, and tho strange, I'm feeling like Hello World. Welcome Back.
Now each night when I remove the hearing aid and external device, I still hear one thing in my mind.

In Sicily, the good weather continues to give us splendid sunny days that tempt us to go to the beach, often making us forget that we are living in the time of covid-19, the beach seems to become an oasis free from the stress of personal distancing, from the use of masks , from often sanitizing hands ... but this state of mind can become risky when ...close interpersonal relationships begin to develop with people not belonging to their own family, often unavoidable in holiday resorts.
Here I present a group of photographs taken recently on the eastern coast of Sicily.
Most of the photos are confused-blurry-blurred-imprecise-indecisive ... the Anglo-Saxon term that encompasses with a single word this photographic genre is "blur", these photos were made in the shooting phase, deliberately lengthening the exposure, and not as an effect created subsequently, in retrospect, in the post-production phase.

In Sicilia il bel tempo continua a regalarci splendide giornate di sole che invogliano ad andare al mare, facendoci spesso dimenticare che viviamo il tempo del covid-19, la spiaggia sembra diventare un'oasi esente dallo stress del distanziamento personale, dall'uso delle mascherine, dal sanificare spesso le mani... ma questo stato mentale può diventare rischioso nel momento in cui....iniziano a realizzarsi stretti rapporti interpersonali con persone non appartenenti al proprio nucleo familiare, spesso inevitabili in luoghi di villeggiatura.
Presento qui un gruppo di scatti fotografici realizzati recentemente sulla costa orientale della Sicilia.
La maggior parte delle foto sono confuse-mosse-sfocate-imprecise-indecise...il termine anglosassone che racchiude con una sola parola questo genere fotografico è "blur", queste foto sono state così realizzate in fase di scatto allungando volutamente i tempi di esposizione, e non come un effetto creato successivamente, a posteriori, in fase di post-produzione.

"the help" .... ... yesterday Baby Jesus was born, for those who are Christians this represents an immense act of God's love for his children ... and it is to that God-Man that we often resort to asking for help .... who among us ... has never needed help ...?! .....
I photographed people I had never met before, I thank them for their sympathy and availability: I met Antonio and his girlfriend, who came to Taormina to spend the last day together, the next day Antonio will leave to go very far, unfortunately leaving his beloved, to see her again who knows when ... I met the Japanese companion of my dear friend Cesare, who flew to the sky many years ago, I knew about his companion, but I had never met her before ... I photographed a sweet Chinese girl that I met on three different occasions, each time with a little more confidence….
these are just a few minimal photographic stories, collected walking down the street ... in search of fleeting moments ...
For some photographs I used a particular photographic technique at the time of shooting, which in addition to capturing the surrounding space, also "inserted" a temporal dimension, with photos characterized by being moved (confused-blurred-imprecise-undecided) ... the Anglo-Saxon term that encloses this photographic genre with a single word is "blur", these images were thus made during the shooting phase, deliberately lengthening the exposure times, and not as an effect created later, in retrospect, in the post phase -production.

"the help"...."l'aiuto" ...ieri è nato Gesù Bambino, per chi è cristiano questo rappresenta un atto d’amore immenso di Dio per i suoi figli...ed è a quel Dio-Uomo che spesso ricorriamo chiedendo aiuto.... chi tra noi...non ha mai avuto bisogno di aiuto...?!.....
ho fotografato persone che non avevo mai incontrato prima, le ringrazio per la loro simpatia e disponibilità: ho incontrato Antonio e la sua ragazza, venuti a Taormina per trascorrere l'ultimo giorno insieme, il giorno successivo Antonio partirà per andare molto lontano, lasciando purtroppo la sua amata, per rivederla poi chissà quando….Ho conosciuto la compagna Giapponese del mio carissimo amico Cesare, volato in cielo tanti anni fa, sapevo di questa sua compagna, ma non l’avevo mai conosciuta prima…Ho fotografato una dolce ragazza Cinese che ho incontrato in tre occasioni diverse, ogni volta con un pizzico di confidenza in più….
sono queste solo alcune storie fotografiche minime, raccolte camminando per la strada ... alla ricerca di attimi fugaci s-fuggenti ...
Ho utilizzato per alcune fotografie una tecnica fotografica particolare al momento dello scatto, che oltre a catturare lo spazio circostante, ha "inserito" anche una dimensione temporale, con foto caratterizzate dall’essere mosse (confuse-sfocate-imprecise-indecise)...il termine anglosassone che racchiude con una sola parola questo genere fotografico è "blur", queste immagni sono state così realizzate in fase di scatto, allungando volutamente i tempi di esposizione, e non come un effetto creato successivamente, a posteriori, in fase di post-produzione.

Easter in Sicily is a deeply felt recurrence throughout the island since ancient times, it has always had the moving participation of the people as its fulcrum, with representations and processions that have become rites and traditions that unequivocally characterize many Sicilian centers, and which evoke the moments most salient narrated in the Gospels and recalling the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, with processions formed by the various brotherhoods (sometimes with theatrical re-enactments) which have in themselves contents and symbols often coming from the Spanish domination, which took place in Sicily between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. This year 2022 then, the celebrations returned after two years of absolute stop of the Easter rites due to the pandemic from Covid-19, rites which, however, and necessarily, were carried out with due precautions, in many cases we have witnessed a painful but necessary reduction of the rites (in some centers there were no processions). Here I present a photographic story that I made in the Sicilian town of Enna during the afternoon until late in the evening, after I had been in the town of Villarosa during the day (see the previous photographic story); is the story of the Good Friday procession of Enna, a procession which, for its beauty, theatricality and majesty, represents the most engaging moment of the whole Holy Week in Enna, so much so that UNESCO declared this week a good protected. Attending this rite, so exciting, personally every time induces me a feeling almost of disorientation: seeing the devotees with their typical attire, characterizing their congregation to which they belong, induces me very strongly the feeling of not being in Sicily anymore, in Enna ... but to have been teleported to Spain, perhaps to the city of Seville, or taken back in time when Sicily was under Iberian domination ...! The procession begins on the afternoon of Good Friday, we witness the appearance of numerous hooded brothers (the brotherhoods are 16, while in 1740 there were 34), almost all the brothers are covered with faces, except those with uncovered faces that lead in shoulder the heavy float of Our Lady of Sorrows, and the float of the Dead Christ (normally every year the confreres are about two thousand five hundred - three thousand, but this year, perhaps due to the restrictions caused by the covid, a lower number was recorded) . During the procession, we witness the congregation carrying a whole series of symbols that have a reference to the Passion of Christ, such as the nails of his crucifixion, the ladder, the spear that pierced his side, the sponge soaked in wine vinegar , the dice, the crown of thorns, the scourge, and the rooster (beautiful specimen, alive), and others. The procession of Enna is made up of exclusively male brotherhoods, the only female presence that makes an exception is given by the numerous "nuns", they are girls dressed like the Poor Clares or Carmelite nuns who accompany the various brotherhoods during the procession. The rites end late at night.
La Pasqua in Sicilia è una ricorrenza profondamente sentita in tutta l’isola fin dall’antichità, essa ha sempre avuto come fulcro la commossa partecipazione del popolo, con rappresentazioni e processioni divenuti riti e tradizioni che caratterizzano inequivocabilmente numerosissimi centri Siciliani, che rievocano i momenti più salienti narrati nei Vangeli e che ricordano la Passione, la Morte e la Resurrezione di Gesù Cristo, con cortei formati dalle varie confraternite (a volte con rievocazioni teatrali) che hanno in se contenuti e simbologie spesso provenienti dalla dominazione Spagnola, avvenuta in Sicilia tra il XVI ed il XVII secolo. Quest’anno 2022 poi, le celebrazioni sono ritornate dopo due anni di assoluto fermo dei riti pasquali a causa della pandemia da Covid-19, riti che comunque, e necessariamente, si sono svolti con le dovute precauzioni, in molti casi si è assistito ad una dolorosa ma necessaria riduzione dei riti (in alcuni centri le processioni non ci sono state). Qui presento un racconto fotografico che ho realizzato nella cittadina siciliana di Enna durante il pomeriggio fino a sera inoltrata, dopo che ero stato durante il giorno nel paese di Villarosa (vedi il racconto fotografico precedente); è il racconto della processione del Venerdì Santo di Enna, processione che, per la sua bellezza, teatralità e maestosità, rappresenta il momento più coinvolgente di tutta la Settimana Santa di Enna, tant'è che l'UNESCO ha dichiarato questa settimana, un bene protetto. Assistere a questo rito, così emozionante, personalmente ogni volta mi induce una sensazione quasi di spaesamento: nel vedere i devoti con i loro tipici abbigliamenti, caratterizzanti la loro congregazione di appartenenza, mi induce fortissima la sensazione di non trovarmi più in Sicilia, ad Enna...ma di essere stato teletrasportato in Spagna, magari nella città di Siviglia, oppure portato a ritroso nel tempo quando la Sicilia era sotto la dominazione Iberica...! La processione ha inizio il pomeriggio del Venerdì Santo, si assiste all'apparire di numerosissimi confrati incappucciati (le confraternite sono 16, mentre nel 1740 erano ben 34), quasi tutti i confrati sono a volto coperto, tranne quelli a volto scoperto che portano in spalla le pesanti vare (i fercoli) della Madonna Addolorata, e quella del Cristo Morto (normalmente ogni anno i confrati sono circa duemilacinquecento - tremila, però quest'anno, forse a causa delle restrizioni causate dal covid, si è registrato un numero inferiore). Si assiste durante la processione, alla congregazione che porta tutta una serie di simboli che hanno un riferimento con la Passione di Cristo, come i chiodi della sua crocifissione, la scala, la lancia che gli trafisse il costato, la spugna imbevuta di aceto di vino, i dadi, la corona di spine, il flagello, ed il gallo (bellissimo esemplare, vivo), ed altri. La processione di Enna è composta da confraternite esclusivamente maschili, l'unica presenza femminile che vi fa eccezione è data dalle numerose “monachelle”, sono delle bambine vestite come le monache clarisse o le monache carmelitane che accompagnano le varie confraternite durante la processione. I riti terminano a notte fonda.

This photographic story of mine, with descriptive text, was created in Novara di Sicilia (ME) on August 15th of this year, on the occasion of a suggestive traditional religious and popular celebration, that of the Apotheosis of the Assumption (in Heaven), which takes place every 5 years, however due to the bans issued during the Covid, it was not celebrated in 2020, so this celebration had not been held for 10 years. I would like to tell the origins of this ancient tradition, which began with the arrival of the Normans in Sicily around the year 1000. At that time, Southern Italy was a coexistence of peoples, religions, and languages, the most diverse. The majority were the Lombards. There were also the Greeks, with the Greek population of Calabria and Salento (i.e., the Byzantines), with the Greek Church based in Constantinople. It was not a foreign Byzantine domination, but rather the people of those lands for centuries. Then there were the Arabs who had conquered Sicily, and even under the Arabs in Sicily, Greeks, Latins, and Jews coexisted; the populations coexisted with each other, and the leaders waged war against each other. Then, in southern Italy, the Normans arrived, seeking adventure and fortune. They were French from Northern France, and the descendants of the Vikings from Scandinavia. the Norman Roger 1st of Sicily (known as the Great Count Roger) together with his brother, conquered Puglia, Calabria, subsequently they allied themselves with an Arab emir reigning in Sicily, who asked them for help because he was fighting against another Arab emir present in Sicily, Roger landed in Messina in February 1061 managing to occupy the eastern part of Sicily, thirty years after his landing in Sicily, in 1091 Roger could say he was master of all of Sicily; Ancient literature credits Great Count Roger with initiating the celebrations of the Assumption, whose banner featured the image of the Our Lady Ascending to Heaven. Under his patronage, the process of "re-Christianization" of the island began. Devotion to the Virgin was strengthened in the territory of Novara di Sicilia in the 12th century with the arrival of the French abbot Hugh (also proclaimed a saint), sent to Sicily by Bernard of Clairvaux, of the Cistercian Order, which has the figure of the Assumption as a cornerstone of its religious institution. This celebration-feast has seen mixed fortunes. Before the Second World War, the float with the Assumption was carried in procession along with approximately 15 floats of various saints. After that conflict, the bishop banned carrying statues of saints alongside the Assumption. With the Great Jubilee of 2000, the ancient tradition was revived with the Saints preceding the Assumption's exit. They arrive in the town's main square, forming a semicircle, awaiting the arrival of the Assumption, which in the meantime has been carried in procession through the town's streets. Upon her return to the square around midnight, the Assumption of Mary is reunited with all the Saints, giving life to the supreme expression of the Apotheosis of Mary Assumed into Heaven, amidst songs, litanies, and prayers. This, in short, is a great, heartfelt procession that begins in the afternoon and continues late into the night, with the many floats of saints preceding that of the Assumption of Mary, characterized by having their arms raised high, and the presence of more than 150 candles being lit. The official logo of the Solemn Apotheosis of the Assumption encloses the presence of the 15 saints as if they were 15 roses, arranged in a crown around the monogram "M - A" (Our Lady Ascending to Heaven): for Dante Alighieri in the Divine Comedy the "Mystical Rose" is "the Love of God", a symbol of divine perfection, peace, and the beauty of Paradise, linked to the figure of Mary, the Mystical Rose par excellence. Thus the Apotheosis is nothing other than the Embrace that God, through Mary and the Saints, addresses to all men.

Questo mio racconto fotografico, con testo descrittivo, è stato realizzato a Novara di Sicilia (ME) il 15 di agosto di quest’anno, in occasione di una suggestiva celebrazione tradizionale religiosa e popolare, quella della Apoteosi dell’Assunta (in Cielo), che prende vita ogni 5 anni, purtuttavia causa i divieti emanati durante il covid, nel 2020 non venne celebrata, sicchè questa celebrazione era da 10 anni che non veniva svolta. Desidero raccontare le origini di questa antica tradizione, essa nasce con l’arrivo dei Normanni in Sicilia attorno all’Anno Mille, in quel periodo nell’Italia Meridionale c’era una convivenza di popoli, religioni, lingue, le più diverse, la maggioranza era data dai Longobardi, c’erano i Greci, con la popolazione greca della Calabria, del Salento (ovvero i Bizantini) con la Chiesa Greca che faceva capo a Costantinopoli, non era una dominazione bizantina straniera, ma erano i popoli di quelle terre da secoli, poi c'erano gli Arabi che avevano conquistato la Sicilia, ed anche sotto gli arabi in Sicilia, convivenao Greci, Latini, Ebrei, le popolazioni convivevano tra loro, erano i capi che si facevano la guerra tra di loro; poi nel meridione d’Italia arrivarono i Normanni, in cerca di avventura e di fortuna, essi erano francesi della Francia del Nord, essi erano i discendenti dei Vichinghi provenienti dalla Scandinavia; il Normanno Ruggero 1° di Sicilia (detto il Gran Conte Ruggero) insieme al fratello, conquista la Puglia, la Calabria, successivamente si allearono con un emiro arabo regnante in Sicilia, che chiedeva loro aiuto perché in lotta contro un altro emiro arabo presente in Sicilia, Ruggero sbarcò a Messina nel febbraio del 1061 riuscendo ad occupare la parte orientale della Sicilia, dopo trent'anni dal suo sbarco in Sicilia, nel 1091 Ruggero poté dirsi padrone di tutta la Sicilia; l’antica letteratura indica il Gran Conte Ruggero promotore dei festeggiamenti dell’Assunta, sul cui stendardo campeggiava l’immagine dell’Assunta, sotto la cui protezione ebbe inizio il processo di “ricristianizzazione” dell’isola, devozione verso la Vergine che si rafforza nel territorio di Novara di Sicilia nel XII secolo con l’arrivo dell’abate francese Ugo (anch’egli proclamato Santo), inviato in Sicilia da Bernardo di Chiaravalle, dell’Ordine Cistercense, che ha come pilastro portante la figura dell’Assunta nella sua istituzione religiosa. Questa celebrazione-festa ha visto alterne fortune, prima del secondo conflitto mondiale la vara con l’Assunta veniva portata in processione assieme a circa 15 vare di diversi santi, dopo tale conflitto ci fu il divieto vescovile di portare le statue dei santi insieme all’Assunta; col Grande Giubileo del 2000 l’antica tradizione riprese vita coi Santi che precedono l’uscita dell’Assunta, giungendo nella piazza principale del paese, disponendosi a semicerchio, aspettando l’arrivo dell’Assunta che nel frattempo è stata condotta in processione nelle vie del paese, al suo rientro in piazza verso mezzanotte Maria Assunta si ricongiunge con tutti i Santi, dando vita alla massima espressione dell’Apoteosi di Maria Assunta in Cielo, tra canti, litanie e preghiere. Questa, in sintesi, è una grande, sentita, processione che inizia nel pomeriggio, per proseguire a notte fonda, con le tante vare di santi che precedono quella di Maria Assunta, caratterizzata dall'avere le braccia rivolte in alto, e la presenza di più di 150 candele che vengono accese. Il logo ufficiale della Solenne Apoteosi dell’Assunta racchiude la presenza dei 15 santi come fossero 15 rose, disposte a corona attorno al monogramma “M – A” (Madonna Assunta): per Dante Alighieri nella Divina Commedia la “Rosa Mistica” è “l’Amore di Dio”, simbolo della perfezione divina, pace, bellezza del Paradiso, collegata alla figura di Maria, Rosa Mistica per eccellenza, ecco che l’Apoteosi altro non è che l’Abbraccio che Dio, tramite Maria ed i Santi, rivolge a tutti gli uomini.

Hey guys! Haven't posted in awhile.. been very busy with school, homework, youth group, and some "college" related stuff. :P
I know I nearly always say this, but I have lots of projects I'm working on that should be completed soon. These figs aren't anything that special, just wanted to upload them for the sake of uploading them before I take them apart. Nice to upload again too :)
