Newberry Volcano is a large active shield-shaped stratovolcano located about 20 miles (32 km) south of Bend, Oregon, United States, 35 miles (56 km) east of the major crest of the Cascade Range, within the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Its highest point is Paulina Peak. The largest volcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc, Newberry has an area of 1,200 square miles (3,100 km2) when its lava flows are taken into account. From north to south, the volcano has a length of 75 miles (121 km), with a width of 27 miles (43 km) and a total volume of approximately 120 cubic miles (500 km3). It was named for the geologist and surgeon John Strong Newberry, who explored central Oregon for the Pacific Railroad Surveys in 1855. The surrounding area has been inhabited by Native American populations for more than 10,000 years.
This, too, is taken at Houska Park, located in La Crosse, Wisconsin. This is right along the Mississippi River, where the eagles love to hang out! Such a beautiful sight, so many eagles in one spot...I love it!!

In recognition of my channel reaching the milestone of 1,000,000 views, I’ve decided to dig an image out from the modern archive. Not taking into account my profile picture of a youthful 14 year old in the hot seat of 59206 from what seems a long time ago, which has been my avatar since day one, this was the first shot I added to Flickr and it's certainly not a shabby one!
57605 "Totnes Castle" approaches Kennaway Tunnel on its departure from Dawlish with the 2C51 17.50 Exeter St Davids-Penzance First Great Western “Veg-Ex" on the longest day of 2014, Saturday 21 June. The original upload only ever achieved 410 views and 3 faves. Apparently, it was also my favourite image at the time (little to say that is no longer the case); a far cry from the quality of my pictures today. As an editor's note, I used to have a policy of deleting original JPEG's once I had finished editing (sounds a bit like the BBC), but remarkably this one was kept intact, so I was able to have another go at polishing it up (Re-uploaded image).

Arnside is a village and civil parish in Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria, England. It is historically part of Westmorland, near the border with Lancashire, England. The Lake District National Park is located a few miles north. Travelling by road, Arnside is 10 miles (16 km) to the south of Kendal, 25.3 miles (40.7 km) to the east of Ulverston, 35.2 miles (56.6 km) to the east of Barrow-in-Furness, 13 miles (21 km) to the north of Lancaster and 14.3 miles (23.0 km) to the east of Grange-over-Sands. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 2,301, increasing at the 2011 census to 2,334 but falling to 2,233 in the 2021 census.
It faces the estuary of the River Kent on the northeastern corner of Morecambe Bay, within the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is overlooked by Arnside Knott, a hill that rises out of the estuary. A detailed account of the wildlife of the Arnside and Silverdale AONB is provided by John Wilson and Peter Lennon. Mammals include red squirrel and otter, breeding birds at the time of publication included the bittern which is still found in the area.
Formerly a small fishing village and port trading with Liverpool and Ireland the village has been attractive to visitors since the 19th century but never developed as a traditional seaside resort.

A pre-Flickr account photo from 2009 when I stopped in Stillwater to grab a photo of the Zephyr trainset next to the depot. I am glad I grabbed a photo when I did. I wanted to plop this one on Flickr to add to my "All Minnesota Railroads" album after grabbing photos of the Ellis & Eastern near Org, Minnesota and completing my goal of photographing them all.
My annual Pro subscription exited my bank account this week I noticed. A timely prompt to upload something!
This is an Iberian Lynx - the rarest species of cat in the world with an estimated 2,000 individuals extant.
Though still vulnerable this is a much improved from when I first looked for the species in the early 1990s in Coto Donana where one of the two discrete populations then existed. There were less than a 100 cats in the wild then. I spoke with a ranger in the park at the time who had never seen a wild one and was more confident of making contact with an Andalusian Hemipode in Donana rather than a Lynx.
A captive breeding programme - which has seen releases in other areas of Spain and Portugal has kick-started the revival.
This one was photographed in Andujar in Jaén, Andalusia - probably the most reliable place to see one in the wild.
Relaxing with wine is the dream but who has time for that these days?

Wachten wordt beloond wanneer de mate van geduld bijna op is maar toch het verlossende woord komt dat de tweede klus voor de 6481 en 6484 in dienst van Railtraxx begonnen is en de eerder uit Athus binnengekomen trein koers heeft gezet naar het havengebied. Daarop besluiten we de trein aan Spoorlijn 10 op te wachten omdat dit ons ruim voldoende tijd geeft stelling in te nemen op de volgende spot.
Met wederom een prachtig groene en goed beladen wagenset verschijnt de trein in het beeld van de fotografen en werd na het maken van de foto verplaatst naar de Kallosluis in de hoop nog een geslaagd plaatje bij brugpassage te kunnen maken. In eerste instantie was de Farnesebrug de mogelijke keuze omdat de meer gebruikte Melselebrug open stond om een groot schip doorgang te verlenen. De trein liet echter danig op zich wachten dat die brug sloot en er een twijfel ontstond wat men zou doen. Even overwegende en op pure goik werd besloten toch naar de Melselebrug te gaan. Of dit de juiste keuze was zal blijken uit een latere foto!

My pro account has expired and I can't renew it right now (still that poor college student).
I have found myself at yet another crossing point in my life. So much is bound to change in these next few months and year as I enter my final year at school and with now no plans for what I will do when I am finished and as I start the school year on my own, I'm terrified but excited for what is yet to come.
My closest friend told me I have a defeatist attitude when it comes to certain dreams and I realized he's right. Nothing should seem impossible at this stage in my life and I want to accomplish all that I can before I lose momentum so I'm working on overcoming my obstacles one at a time.
I am so thankful for the people in my life-the one mentioned previously in particular.
Someone who's taken care of me, shown me so many things about myself and has been a huge inspiration and source of support this past year. Someone who I will always be grateful for and someone I'll always love.

The Ruby-crowned Kinglet, one of North America's smallest songbirds, has a loud, complex song and, with up to 12 eggs, lays the largest clutch of any North American passerine for its size. Males and females are nearly identical in plumage -- olive green-gray on the upperparts with two strong white wing-bars and a broken, white eye-ring. The male has a scarlet crown patch, which is usually concealed unless agitated.
During migration and winter, the Ruby-crowned Kinglet occupies a variety of habitats and is often recognized by its constant wing-flicking. As a breeder, it inhabits spruce-fir forests of the northern and mountainous western United States and Canada. Its nest is hidden, often near the trunk and up to 30 meters above the ground, making reproductive data difficult to gather. Much remains to be learned about the breeding biology and behavior of this species.

This statue's short kilt and striding pose eye favored for the the statues of high officials during the fourth century BC,and were certainly chosen for the evocation of the great tradition stretching back to the old kingdom.Although the owner's name is broken away,the long inscription indicates that the individual had a high general's title,held offices at Busiris,and performed restorations there and Abydos for damages that resulted from "the foreigners",a description that must refer to the Persian occupation.
Indeed works at Abydos during dynasty 30 are documented by archaeological and inscriptional evidence.Moreover,the strongly modeled chest and musculature and details of the style seem to fit well in Dynasty 30,perhaps even the reign of Nentanebo 1 (380-343 BC),suggesting that the statues inscription may indeed be a contemporary account by a high military official.

Waar je op de Brabantroute eigenlijk omgeleide treinen verwacht die gewoonlijk het A15 tracé en de grensovergang bij Emmerich benutten was er dankzij werkzaamheden in het zuiden van Limburg ook een totaal andere omleider te zien tijdens een dagje langs de baan in de hoop op leuke goederentreintjes. In dit geval ging het om een steevast rijdende staaltrein vanuit Beverwijk met bestemming Kinkempois die gewoonlijk niet eens in de buurt van Rotterdam, laat staan Dordrecht komt.
Het is aan de 193 312 (voorzien van de milieubewuste stickers 'Das ist Grün') om deze staaltrein van tractie te voorzien tussen Beverwijk en Roosendaal. Hierbij werd dwars door de randstad gereden en daarbij dus ook de fotografen gepasseerd onder rugnummer 47683 ter hoogte van Willemsdorp, slechts een goede minuut voordat de trein Brabant zal bereiken. Vanaf Roosendaal zou het geheel verder gaan aangevoerd door maarliefst drie Vlaamse reizen.
Op het moment van het maken van deze foto zou de toelating voor Vectron locomotieven in België ongeveer drie weken in orde bevonden zijn ware het niet dat er toch nog wat meer tijd overheen gaat voordat deze machines daadwerkelijk in het Belgische zullen rijden. Waar wij er al enige jaren aan gewend zijn zal een nieuw toegelaten locomotieftype vele Belgische treinliefhebbers positief stemmen. Na vele jaren waarin de Traxx ruimschoots overheerst mogen onze zuiderburen ook hoop gaan vestigen op meer variatie en vele fotografische doelen.

Having been locked out of this account for 18 months (June '17 to December '18) I am now in the process of moving some of the images from my temporary account over to this one. Here is a series of aerial shots of Old Harry Rocks, across the bay from Poole, on the Isle of Purbeck (which isn't an island!), Dorset. I flew this with the DJI Phantom 3 Professional, in July 2017, just before I sold it. This is an amazing place to fly but, sadly, the National Trust have now slapped a blanket ban on flying from / over any of their properties.

Het nieuwe glanst er nog vanaf terwijl RRF 'hommel' 653-01 zijn neus buiten de poort steekt na het plaatsen van ketels bij Vopak. De trein is te lang om op slechts 1 spoor te passen waardoor er nog eenmaal gezaagd moet worden naar een ander spoor wat een mooie kans was tot het maken van dit klikje op de overweg aan de Frankrijkweg.
Door het ontbreken van overwegbomen verbaasden mij meermalen diverse automobilisten die ondanks de rode lampen toch besloten om door te rijden waarbij de trein misschien niet een direct gevaar is, maar waar de gemiddelde coureur zichzelf er vast niet bewust van is dat een 127 ton zware gigant diens bolide ervaart als een leeg blikje frisdrank.
Het zijn dan ook de kracht en de techniek die maken dat ik een grote passie voor met name deze locomotieven heb. Zelfs mijn gezelschap wat niet direct de voorkeur voor deze locs heeft kon niet ander dan oordelen dat het doordringende motorgeluid toch wel echt enig respect afdwingt. Meer als mannen gezegd is het gewoon heel erg gaaf!

Op de derde foto op dit account van deze ´tweety´ is de loc met een kolentrein op weg naar Duitsland. Er is wel een verschil: de loc rijdt hier voor RFO, bij de andere voor ERS Railways.

Sinds 1 januari 2019 verzorgd LINEAS de tractie voor de eerder door onder andere DB Cargo en RRF gereden dolimetreinen die hun weg vinden tussen de steengroeve van Lhoist in Hermalle-Sous-Huy en Nedmag in Veendam. In principe worden deze treinen over hun gehele traject van tractie voorzien door een tweetal HLR77 waardoor we bij uitzondering onlangs al het tweetal geheel gehuisstijlde locs voor de trein vonden én fotografeerden. Echter het kan altijd nog iets beter!
Het gebeurde op 30 april 2019 nog maar voor de tweede keer dat de enige Class 66 in LINEAS livrei de taak kreeg de extra dolimetrein naar het noorden te rijden wat voor mij de logica betekende dat hij een dag later bij daglicht zuidwaarts zou rijden. Gezien ik de eerdere keer niet in de gelegenheid was de reis doordeweeks te maken werden nu alle zeilen bijgezet om dat nu wel voor elkaar te krijgen. Niet alleen immers is Class 66 zeer geliefd bij mij maar deze loc laat zich hoe dan ook vrij moeilijk pakken gezien de tijdstippen en dagen waarop hij meestal in actie komt.
Met nu wel de mogelijkheid op pad te gaan werd ondanks het grijze begin van de dag rekening gehouden met een eventueel zonnetje wat me in eerste instantie op de Paleisbrug in 's-Hertogenbosch bracht. Door een enorme kans op een tegentrein op het verkeerde moment en het feit dat het noodzakelijk zou zijn ietwat te groothoeken besloot ik alsnog de bewolkte Brabantse hoofdstad achter me te laten en koers te zetten naar het enige kilometers zuidelijker gelegen Vught.
Strak volgens schema passeert de LINEAS 513-10 met lege dolimetrein 47627 het pitorekse stationnetje en het tweetal fotografen in het 5 minuten eerder ontstane zongat. Zo bleek al snel was de verhuizing naar Vught een goede zet, was het al niet om een eventuele tegentrein dan was het wel om het feit dat het zeer waarschijnlijk grauw en grijs bleef op de eerder gekozen plaats. Iedere spoorliefhebber kent de talloze pogingen waarin iets niet helemaal mag lukken maar pogingen zoals deze maken dat soort momenten ruimschoots goed en motiveren vooral lekker door te hobbyen!

De herfst editie 2019 heeft langzaam maar zeker zijn intrede gedaan wat het verkleurende groen een interessante achtergrond maakt voor de foto's van een spoorwegfotograaf. Die poging werd dan ook ondernomen in eigen hometown wanneer een iets andere dan gebruikelijke goederentrein voorspeld was door de stad te komen.
Het is thans de enige Class 66 die nog op de Zeeuwse lijn te bewonderen is, de PB 01 ofwel 266 003 die al enige tijd in dienst is van RRF. Op dit moment lijken de Gefco autotreinen tussen het Roemeense Craiova en de Sloehaven echter in een dip te zitten waardoor ook deze machine zich enige tijd niet meer liet zien. Met een onverwacht en totaal andere trein werd er toch melding gemaakt van de nog altijd Ascendos donkergroene machine onderweg naar het Zeeuwse.
Terwijl een kleinere wolk de aan deze trein voorafgaande IC naar Vlissingen in de schaduw zette dreigde een nog veel grotere wolk ook de passage van mijn doel te kunnen verpesten, tenzij men maar eens even heel erg opschoot. Iedere fotograaf kent het beeld van angstvallig achterom te kijken of de zon niet verdwijnt achter wolken. Nu was er ook nog het gevaar van het verdwijnen achter hoogbouw, maar dat was duidelijk pas minsten een halfuur later het geval. De grote wolk echter kwam rap dichterbij.
Met het groen worden van het sein behorende bij het juiste spoor lijkt de strijd misschien gewonnen maar de daadwerkelijke passage van de trein laat hier dan veelal nog een circa drie minuten op zich wachten. Ook nu was dat niet anders! Na nog menig malen achterom gekeken te hebben begonnen de overwegen eindelijk te rinkelen en verscheen het knalgele contrastvlak in mijn zicht.
Nog een blik achterom bevestigde succes wat maakt dat we de RRF PB 01 met een 26 gasketelwagens UN 1965 tellende sleep station Bergen op Zoom zien passeren als trein 49781 vanuit Zevenaar grens naar de Vlissingen Sloehaven. Het geluk bleek maximaal met de domme, nog geen 30 seconden na passage van de trein gooide de wolk het licht uit en was er van het herfstige sfeertje helemaal niets overgebleven.
Dieser Account muss leider jetzt umziehen, da ich seit einiger Zeit nur noch Zugriff auf diesen über das Handy (sprich die Flickr.-App) habe.
