The weasel (Mustela nivalis) is the smallest predator in Europe and belongs to the mustelid family.
These animals are extremely shy, even the shutter click of the camera makes him run away and hide for some time.
Cheers!

The Jin Mao (金茂大厦) in Pudong at 93 floors is one of the tallest building in the world, but not the tallest building in Shanghai (上海). Opened in 1988, the architecture takes in account the Chinese tradition of pagoda, of course in different scale. Designed paradoxically by Chicago company (SOM). Main occupant is Hyatt Hotel from 54 to 88 floors. In elevator, on the way to the top we met Anthony - a Chinese American originally from Seattle. After a brief conversation, he mentioned that he was the General Manager of the hotel. He suggested going the 85 floor for the best view of the atrium. The view from the hotel may be spectacular, but we could not experience it, as the whole city was shrouded in heavy fog.

The East Entrance Road curves around the base of Lake Butte as it approaches the shores of Yellowstone Lake. A wildfire in 2003 burned the forest in the Lake Butte area which accounts for the burned trees at the bend in the road.
Donna Nook now accounts for 1.5% of the world's grey seal population. The work of the wardens and the wildlife trust, is therefore crucial, for the future of these lovely animals.

This picture of the Canale Grande, Venice, was taken in early August 2007 as a panorama consisting of 11 frames. When I rediscovered the files, I thought, some new Photoshop processing techniques I didn't know back then might help the files to become a nice picture.

Experimenting! Trying to do more subtle colorwork here, and less contrast. Also if anyone was wondering, the clouds are from Glacier National Park from my trip in August :)
Not totally sure if I'm content with this yet but I kind of just wanted to get something posted so I might replace it later.

Still selling prints on my Facebook Page, lol.
If you have Facebook you have probably heard the story about the two wolves. Well, recently I have learned how true that can be. I learned of a Wolf that is a predator, plain and simple. Feeding off multiple people yet never true or loyal to any. This my friends was a wolf in sheep's clothing. He pretended to be kind, loyal and dedicated. Yet alas, one mistake and the pack ate him alive. Moral of the story my friends, is that if you are going to date people on multiple avatars that look the same and hang out at the same places on both, make sure not to put the same photo on both of your flickr accounts.JS LOL

Photo taken on our trip to Loire Valley in France. The Château de Chenonceau was dog friendly and she was able to walk around the beautiful gardens and was able to be carried inside the castle. It also had the maze garden that Laika had fun running around in circles.

This beautiful rare flower is the wild Pyramidal Orchid { Anacramptis pyramidalis } and it grows on dry grassland, chalk downs and stabilised sand dunes.I was lucky to spot it yesterday growing on the side of the road as it was the profusion of yellowish foamy flower around it, that attracted my view. They are called Ladies Bedstraw { Galium verum } and they smells like new mown hay. It was once used for stuffing mattress`s and the term ladies is said to refer to Queen Elizabeth 1st who it is said had her mattress`s stuffed with it. By all accounts its the closest she actually got to an actual stuffing though Ive heard rumours!!!!! Lol
So an ordinary simple little no frills pic with a nice little tale.
The best ones really!
Right, anybody fancy a roll in the grass? For Heavens sake will ya mind the Orchid!!!!
Do hope you will favour my photo.

Update;
Im amazed how popular this simple photo is. I didnt take any trouble with it in the least. I was passing by on the opposite side of the road and I just went over and took 3 pics. I removed a few blades of strawy grass first that were in the way. I was going to use a macro lens but I didnt bother.
Im passing by there again this evening so Ill have a look. I doubt if any more will come up as the do grow singly and are extremely fussy about soil conditions.I think its the simplicity of it that makes it and of course the grass and the foil of yellow flowers definitely add to it.
I do want to thank all of you for all your faves and wonderful words which inspire me greatly!
Hugs,
P@t.
I went out to Donabate on Tuesday 4th July to look for some more Orchids. I must have walked 10 miles but I was well rewarded as I found one area where there were about 20 in all and they were in varying shades of purple. Perhaps the colour has to do with soil ph. I will put up a collage of them and I think Ill print a few as well. If anyone wants a copy, let me know.
Catch you all soon, P@t.

When I took a trip to south Texas in February one of the snakes I most wanted to see was the Texas Indigo snake. These are one of our biggest non-venomous snakes. They eat other snakes, frogs, lizards and a variety of other things. On my last full day of the trip I travelled to a location that a friend told me these beautiful snakes could be found.
Here is a youtube video of the search followed by the written account below.
I arrived at the location in the afternoon. The habitat consisted of farmland and scrubland which was intersected by a deep sided ditch. Waterways are often the best places to spot reptiles and amphibians so I searched carefully along the ditch hoping to see a big black snake somewhere in the vegetation or under a rock or at the mouth of a burrow. I was walking along one side of the ditch when I looked over to the other side and couldn't believe my eyes. There was a big Texas Indigo snake sitting there in the grass next to a shrub on the edge of the ditch. I was recording some video at the time and took my camera out to try to get some pics and it disappeared. The ditch was too wide to jump across at that point so I went down stream to where I could cross over a bridge and back to the spot I had seen the snake. I looked all around where I had seen it and it was unfortunately no where to be found.
As I stood in the spot where I had originally seen the snake in the grass, I thought about how close I had come to catching that beautiful snake and wondered if I had even gotten it on video. I thought that the snake had gone down a rodent hole or something. As I stood there in a mixture of emotions I happened to glance into the water and something dark caught my eye in the water in the undercut bank on the opposite side of the ditch where I had first seen the snake. As I looked closer, I was amazed and elated to see that the long dark object was the Indigo snake hiding there in the water under the bank. I think it had seen me and then dove into the water and decided to hide under the bank. I wasn't going to lose it this time so I decided I needed to jump the ditch. I got as much of a start as I could on the steep downhill next to the ditch and made my jump. I barely made it safely to the other side, ran over to the bank where I saw the snake and reached in to make a grab. I was overjoyed to pull this beautiful snake out of the water.
Indigo snakes are very gentle and this snake never made any attempt to bite but it did flatten out its neck as a threat display.
After a little photo session with this beautiful snake I returned it to its habitat along the bank of the ditch. I was very grateful for the opportunity to see this snake on my visit to Texas.
Note please don't confuse the Texas Indigo snake with the threatened Eastern Indigo snake which lives in the SE United states. They are closely related but the Texas Indigo snake has healthy populations in Texas and Mexico and is not threatened or endangered and is thus OK for me to catch, photograph and release. If this was an Eastern Indigo snake that would not be allowed without a permit.

Wikipedia: The Panzerkampfwagen III (Pz.Kpfw. III), commonly known as the Panzer III, was a medium tank developed in the 1930s by Germany, and was used extensively in World War II. The official German ordnance designation was Sd.Kfz. 141. It was intended to fight other armored fighting vehicles and serve alongside and support the similar Panzer IV, which was originally designed for infantry support.
Production of the Panzer III ceased in 1943, but the StuG III assault gun, which was based on the Panzer III chassis, remained in production until the end of the war. About 18,000 vehicles based on the Panzer III chassis were produced between all variants --- by far the most of any German AFV design in World War II, and accounting for over a quarter of all tanks and assault guns produced by Nazi Germany.

The Darckr Flickr Viewer is a webapp and a mashup based upon the flickr web rest apis.
Darckr allows to view Flickr content and helps in social life and picture management, by posting comments, or editing photo parameters.
For me, Darckr is an experimental platform to study the web2 languages.
Working is easier in beautiful surroundings...
Darckr uses ajax for continuous page preloading and streaming (here my own pictures sorted by interestingness according to Flickr), and the mootools javascript api.
The originality of Darckr is that the end user can freely customize his preferred viewing settings and save them on demand in cookies.
Ironically, this free software has become the mostly used of my programs ever, with more than 3000 thousand users of the full functionality,
several thousand pages viewed per day, and some 70000 api calls per day.
Still rising :-).
Darckr uses Ajax to interact with one's flickr account in ways not offered by the flickr web site itself.

I've already written a lengthy account of my visit to Kynance Cove last weekend. You probably don't want to hear any more about it, but there's always another tale somewhere if I can just drag it out of this keyboard on a Friday evening at the end of another long week at the swamp.
Some of you will have read stories on this page of the adventures and misadventures of a wide angle lens that came into my possession in the spring of 2019. I won't go over those again - no need to overuse a well worn saga. Recently I resolved to revive its fortunes because it had lain unused in my spare bag for several months. I was worried that it might start to show signs of neglect, and it had also occurred to me that there may have been a reason why I'd purchased it in the first place. So one evening I resolved to address the situation, deliberately leaving the other lenses at home and took it to Gwithian, where we had a very enjoyable evening together (or at least we did until a large party invaded my space along with an over enthusiastic dog, whose name I learned in full Sensurround more than once was Spencer). If a lens were some form of sentient being it might have felt like one of your children does when you take them somewhere special on their own. Not that I've ever done anything like that or I'd have still been hearing about it twenty years later. My daughter still complains about her brother having a Penguin biscuit when for some unremembered reason she missed out on one. This happened in 1996 by the way.
So that was it. I'd made my point and used the lens and made some shots that I was happy enough with. One of them I shared with you three or four weeks ago, although when I remember the heat of the afternoon that day it seems a lot longer. Now I could stuff the lens back into its bag like the lone occupant of an empty old manor house and everything would return to normal. Except that the lens stayed on the camera. This was partly because I'd forgotten just how sharp it could make an image from back to front, and partly because it just happened that in a couple of subsequent outings it was the only one which was going to swallow the entire composition that I had in mind. Last Saturday at Kynance was one of those days, and this view over the sea stacks could only work if I had some foreground in the composition. For that I needed to zoom out to 16mm.
Standing among this outcrop high on the cliff I moved the tripod about by small degrees, a couple of inches to the left, half a step backwards, trying very slightly different placings and then making a focus stack. Ultimately the ever changing sky decided which version I'd share with you and all of the small and subtle foreground changes became irrelevant.
So now the lens is back where it belongs. There it sits in front of me in the main bag, adding to my options and so also by default my confusion levels as I head out towards the great wherever with that sense of anticipation that makes us all what we are. Tomorrow I have a plan. I want to try and do a better job of an image I took in the summer. Wish me luck. I love having a plan and I love not knowing what adventures tomorrow will bring. Have a great weekend everyone, and remember to dust off that forgotten piece of kit you paid all that money for and have left unused. You won't regret it.
Pingmen or Ping Gate, Suzhou
Due to the account capacity constraints, this account will cease to be updated after 28 June, 2024.
My new account : www.flickr.com/photos/runen3
This city gate is called "Pingmen" or "Ping Gate", located in the northwest of the old city of Suzhou. The gate is said to have existed 2,500 years ago, but was blocked until 1928, when it was reconstituted to facilitate the traffic of the nearby railway station outside the city. Then in 1958, when all the walls of the city of Suzhou were demolished, the gate of course ceased to exist.
However, in 2011-2012, the Suzhou municipal authorities rebuilt a section of the city wall at the location of the gate, directly south of the Suzhou railway station, with three arches on the wall, known as the "Ping Gate", and built on top of the wall above the gate an pseudo-ancient city tower, which had never existed at the Pingmen before 1958.

Hey have you guys noticed the amount of 'contact fishers' lately? I mean these accounts rack up 10-100,000 contacts and they'll likely won't ever show any interest or interact with you. I don't know, I just find it odd to create an account just to rack up views.
My annual Pro subscription exited my bank account this week I noticed. A timely prompt to upload something!
This is an Iberian Lynx - the rarest species of cat in the world with an estimated 2,000 individuals extant.
Though still vulnerable this is a much improved from when I first looked for the species in the early 1990s in Coto Donana where one of the two discrete populations then existed. There were less than a 100 cats in the wild then. I spoke with a ranger in the park at the time who had never seen a wild one and was more confident of making contact with an Andalusian Hemipode in Donana rather than a Lynx.
A captive breeding programme - which has seen releases in other areas of Spain and Portugal has kick-started the revival.
This one was photographed in Andujar in Jaén, Andalusia - probably the most reliable place to see one in the wild.

Excerpt from english.seoul.go.kr/city-hall/overview-city-hall/seoul-ci...:
After four years and five months of construction, Seoul City Hall was reborn in October 2012.
The new Seoul City Hall is an eco-friendly building with a unique exterior, the design of which is based on the eaves of traditional Korean houses. The total floor area of the city hall buildings is 90,743m², including the old City Hall building, which is now the Seoul Metropolitan Library. Government offices account for 62 percent of the area, and public spaces for citizens make up 38 percent. The building is highly efficient, as it is built with a double skin façade system. About 28.3 percent of the energy used in the building comes from eco-friendly energy sources, including photovoltaic, solar thermal and geothermal.
The Green Wall is the most popular attraction at the Seoul City Hall building. Spanning an area of 1516m², the size of a soccer field, this vertical garden climbs up the inner wall, all the way from the first to the seventh floor. It was named in the Guinness World Records as the largest vertical garden in the world.
Over 70,000 plants of 14 different species were planted in the garden over an eight-month period. They help to eliminate contaminants and fine dust and regulate the temperature and humidity. When visitors take the elevator or escalator from the Haneul Plaza on the ninth floor down to the first floor, where the double skin façade can be clearly seen, it feels like being inside a spaceship.
First day of Autumn here in Sydney my fine flickr friends and I'm up at the right time, in great time in fact - so have time to check out Bondi - superflat, no clouds - drove to Tamarama - same, drove to Bronte - same so on I went over the Bondi border and in to foreign territory Coogee . Beautiful morning, lovely sunrise - however nothing too special going on down there apart from a fellow Irishman down the beach sitting next to me. He was still drunk from the night before telling me that we were on the right side of the beach and that we would end up millionaires where as everyone else on the other side of the beach would end up in Ikea. I, being Irish too, agreed with his wise beer sodden words however did not get the money shot whilst I was down there.
On the way home, stopped to get a paper and there he was crossing the road in the beautiful light on Bondi Road. I let him go, did not have the heart to tell him there was no surf down at Bondi and finally got my money shot .
Been super busy over the last few days with work and a wedding(not mine rest assured ;))) so bear with me whilst I catch up. Off now to check to my bank account to see if the millions have arrived yet ;)
Fourth photo on the theme of water.
"Hydroelectricity is the term referring to electricity generated by hydropower; the production of electrical power through the use of the gravitational force of falling or flowing water. It is the most widely used form of renewable energy, accounting for 16 percent of global electricity generation" (Wikipedia)
